May 26th, 2016 Behind the gas station

Cold, very cold ! A little bit noisy (trucks & music) but a big area and it's enough for us. Free. Clean restrooms (and probably showers).

May 25th, 2016 Gas station with showers

Another gas station in the world. Free, with clean bathroom and cold showers.
A nice stop for us after the desert in the north and before the mountains of the east.
A nice stop to listen to the song of the horns of Lima, until 8.30 pm :-)
It was ok to refill our water tank.
We propose to the women staff to visit our RV and they were happy. Very friendly staff. They say us to write on blogs that every overlanders are welcome...
So, they won a postcard from Paris !:-)

We ask to the gas station, and a man say we could stay here.
Was very quiet.
Finaly, it was not free. At 7:30 AM, a guardian cames and asked S/10. I probably had to negociate but I wasn't really awake...

May 20th, 2016 Museo Nacional Tumbas Reales De Sipán

Very nice museum.
S/10 adult, S/4 student (13y), S/1,50 young student (9y and 6y).
Most of the texts are in english and spanish, but it's more interesting when you know the story of Sipan and about this museum before.

May 18th, 2016 Macara, Ecuador to Suyo, Peru

Nothing changed except price for insurance : 21sol for our 7m's RV.

Don't forget switch your lights on 24h when driving in Peru. We often meet police and light off cost is 316 sol... (with a corrupted policeman we paid 100s...)

May 18th, 2016 Primax, Sullana

No more place at gaz station tonight. We stay close to this station, in front of the buses's garage. Not so quiet but ok.

May 18th, 2016 Closed gaz station

We found nothing for big rig since at least 100km from the north...
This gaz station seems definitly closed and there are ropes along the streets. But there is a way without rope, closed to the building. There are still people living on the 1rst ground of this building. They were ok when we asked to stay here.

May 17th, 2016 Loja Gas

Unable to refill big US bottle (15kg) today... :-(

Flat area close to the football pitch, at 50m from E35. We asked at the little shop in front of the street : owner said " no problem, very safe and quiet place !"

May 14th, 2016 Parque paraiso

It's ok for big rig (our RV is 21feet).

Nous sommes restés 2 nuits. Très agréable le WE. Grand parc, animations, vendeurs ambulants. C'est le rdv des familles et nos enfants ont bien profité du lieu.
Wifi ok si on se rapproche de la faculté d'odontologie.

May 14th, 2016 Parking Parque De La Madre

The old parking lot at the corner was closed this saturday.
The new parking is not for big rig because the only exit is by tunnel. (say the guard)

May 13th, 2016 Bar restaurant

Forget the restaurant if you can, it was expensive (3,5 to 5$ one course).
But big free area to overnight (with buses and truck...)
There is natural source to refill your tank
Restroom and cold shower 24h but without light...

Just an helpful area when the night comes

May 12th, 2016 Native Jungle

Patricio Garces from Native Jungle is one of the 4 tours operators in Puyo.
9 de octubre 1268 / Atahualpa, 2nd piso

He speak spanish and english... and others natives dialects

We have done a one day trip for all the family (with children 13y, 9y, 6y). It was perfect. We do a walk in the jungle to see waterfall. Learn a lot of things about plants, see native people, 3km with canoe etc...
35$/adult, half price for child

With Patricio, when you want, there are some other options between 1 to 10 days in the deep forest for next level called 'indiana jones' too... :-)

May 8th, 2016 Paseo de los Monos

We did it with our RV which is 7 meters (21 feet). So it's big rig friendly ! This is a stoned road with up and down but only for 500m. We were a little bit affraid but it was ok. We did it 3 times because we had to go at Puyo when we were here. The second one after a lot of rain. Still ok.
We stayed 4 days and paid 1$/d at the ower of the parking (5$/week). If u don't want to pay, ask to Ivan, the owner of los monos, to show you an other place.
Ivan come from Switzerlnd. He speak french, english and spanish.
You probably could use shower of the owner of the parking, or ask to Ivan to use this of the volonteer's building.
We use restroom at the entrance of the refugee (24h but no light in the night)

If u want to do a trip in the forest, see nice waterfall, learn about plants and animals, meet native people, Ivan could call a friend, Patricio, who was at the top (nativejunglecuador.com). 35$ per adult per day all included. half price for children

Our daugther (13y) worked at Los monos few days with others volonteers and it was the best experience you can imagine. Usualy, you have to stay at least one week for volonteer (look at website), but some others options are possible.

Of couse, u can only visit the refugee (3$/adult) : 50 monkeys, 5 species. Some parrots, pecaris, coatis, turtles, snakes, small fishes and a margay.

Nice place to see

Must pay the parking ticket (3$ for the day) at the cashier before.
Entrance on the site is 3,50$ per adult. Half price for kids from 6 to 12.
Fun to see the equator line. Littles museums (french pavillion free), monument and lots of souvenir's shops (not expensives opposite to food shops) : certificate, stamps on passport, etc.

May 2nd, 2016 escuela superior de policia

Dark and rainy night ... We ask to the police of Pomasqui and they show us this dead end just in front of police school. They said : "very safe here !". Close to the road but sometimes, you just want to stop and sleep !

May 2nd, 2016 Gaz station PS

Ask to the station. Free. Restroom 24h.

April 30th, 2016 El Angel Soccer Field Camp

We didn't see it from the main road. Maybe should go in the town to see it, or maybe does'nt exist anymore, because there is a lot of building under construct in this area.

April 30th, 2016 Ipiales, Colombia to Tulcan, Ecuador

Noboby crossed the border since 3 years ?! :-)
So, what's new...
Everthing is still free.
And what do you need ? Nothing ! Now, you don't have to do any copy.

First, go to immigration to have your exit's stamp on your passport. Then you can go to dian to give back your temporary vehicle import form. Then take your car and go to Equador building. All this step took us 15 min.

Now Equador side. Go to immigration to stamp your passport. Then ask for the aduana for vehicule importation. Probably should ask again and again. It's on your right when u left immigration. It's not small windows where people wait for merchandises. You had to walk 10m more, to the end of this building. This is a small circle office like a tower, with big glasses's walls. Here someone would ask you a lot of questions and scans your license, passport and vehicle permit. Then u had to go to the other side of this building, to another small office to take your new vehicle's importation form. Then go back to the first office, where people give you back your personals papers after you sign the form. They keep one and give you the second. You have to put it on the front of your car for "policia de transito no les molesta" !
Take 1h15 for us.

The easier border we've seen since Mexico...

One tips : try to save some dollars before the border and spend all your cop before. Change's rate is very worst here (on Colombian side. I haven't tried Equador side).

April 30th, 2016 Old gaz station near San Isidro

Policeman from the town shows us this area, 'where some bus drivers sleep here sometimes'. We probably prefer sleeping somewhere in the town, wich looks pretty but policeman want to help us and we follow him ...
Very quiet, the only noise we heard was cow and rooster :-)
Two kids came to play with ours in the morning.

April 30th, 2016 Esso gaz station - restaurant - motel

We ask to the restaurant for overnight parking. The owner of the hotel comes and says ok, just in front of the restaurant. Free for the night and cold shower. There is clean restrooms in the restaurant and some other 24h near the shower. Nice playground for kids behind the restaurant. Noisy because trucks often stop at night in the gaz station, but not so bad aera.
