July 3rd, 2018 border

this border was easy, breezy, covergirl. seriously, we just showed our passports, answered three questions about our plans and were on our way.

June 26th, 2018 klamath river rv park and campground

expensive but awesome campground! 35 per night - ask for one of the spots right on the river if you're in a smaller rig. great bathroom and showers, coffee included in the morning. weak but available wifi. gorgeous river views!!

June 24th, 2018 Chanslor Ranger campground

everything about this place is perfect except for the price. it was 56 dollars for car camping.. they do have water and power hookups and picnic tables with wood available for purchase. it's a GORGEOUS ranch with ocean views, we could hear waves crashing sell night. and they let us come in late and pay in the morning. great bathroom and shower

September 14th, 2017 Insight auto glass windshield repair

We pulled into this car wash and windshield repair place got our rock chip on our windshield repaired in 10 min. the guys name is Paul Milk and phone is 303-507-0148. He is willing to work with your budget. Cost us $20.

September 9th, 2017 lots of great wild camping spots!!

this is a random trail off the main road but if you drive into it there are several clearings and a few spots where others have clearly camped before - rock firepits, etc. there may also be wildlife bc there is a big dead cow that looks like it's been there awhile. really awesome spot with INCREDIBLE views!!

August 27th, 2017 Birriera El Cunado

Super yummy restaurant for beef birria...aka Mexican potroast covered in a broth. It is $60 pesos for an order with all the fixins and tortillas. The order is probably enough for two people depending on how hungry you are. Great if you have a cold. Super fast.

August 26th, 2017 Playa del Oro

hotel la roca

August 26th, 2017 hotel la roca

we got to town late and in off season and the campgrounds we're all closed or out of business
. this place was great 38 USD per night for clean, air conditioned room with mini fridge. wifi in lounge area, pure water available in lobby, free coffee in morning. they have a small unsecured hotel lot but when they saw our car they opened up their private, one-space, gated lot in the back. also, this was the first building in Rocky point and Al Capone may have owned it. so, there is that but of randomness for you.

August 26th, 2017 labelle

Cute space with good coffee shop, called coffee stop, downstairs and restaurant called labelle upstairs. LaBelle has crepes, eggs, hotcakes, bacon, toasts, smoothies, juice, and even a Monte Cristo sandwich. Wifi worked, not super fast, but it is a comfortable place to sit and do work if needed.

August 24th, 2017 Fruit / Veggie inspection

Asked if we had fruits or veggies. That is all.

August 21st, 2017 Quetzalcoatl

Fantastic vegetarian restaurant. They have a buffet for breakfast and lunch that has all the different types of local flavors - tamales, tacos, enchiladas, fruit, coffee, refrescos, yogurt, salad, stuffed poblano peppers, breads, etc. really good food. It was 210 pesos for two for breakfast. there are two locations in town and this is a local favorite.

July 22nd, 2017 Abarrotes Organicos

Cute little organic shop in Puebla. They have kombucha, fresh eggs, coffee and chai drinks, jewelry, a few books, jams, Cliff bars, chocolate, etc.

June 24th, 2017 San Cristobal el alto

Place to get natural spring water...fill your tanks and bottles!

June 12th, 2017 Macaza alignment and balancing

Great place for alignment and balancing. Has the fancy 3d machine and gives you printout of before and after. Ideally know your vehicle weight before coming because they program it into the machine. Even very very tall rigs can fit. For balancing four tires and alignment it was $36. They take visa.

June 4th, 2017 Pure Gym, Spa and Guesthouse

so this place was completely unexpected. really cute gym, yoga center and spa where they also rent out clean, decent rooms for between 21-40 dollars. I think they have 3-4 rooms. best part - you can use the fully equipped gym and attend all yoga classes for free while you stay here!! also a vegetarian cafe and 20 dollar massages onsite. you can work your rig in front of church next to casa San Francisco (a couple of blocks over). talk to eddieberto, the unofficial, official night watchman. for two dollars he will watch your car - it's what all of the hotels say to do so it is legit. I tried to add a bunch of photos but Ioverlander was having a hard time.

June 2nd, 2017 bocadillos

great little tapas bar. really good food and drinks but the owners (an American couple) here are the real awesomeness. they are super cool, unbelievably helpful and really kind. they saw us circling around town looking for a place and offered us help and a couple of beers to help us chill out. just what we needed after a shitty day. these guys and this restaurant deserve our patronage. and have the passion fruit mojito!

May 23rd, 2017 Free Hot Springs

everything as described. water shoes or tevas would be helpful bc it's rocky climbing down to pools. warm place to hang for an hour.

May 22nd, 2017 Lands of Love

we didn't camp here. we don't even have any info except this - we drove thru, looking for a good vegan burger as advertised on all the road signs. IT IS A REALLY COOL PLACE. Hiking trails, ponds with geese and horses, a pool! vegetarian/vegan/Israeli restaurant, waterfalls. we didn't see anyone in restaurant right away and we're in a hurry so I didn't ask how much camping is but the sign specifically said camping and it looked like they had great spots and facilities.

May 17th, 2017 Almara Salon

Good beauty salon. Did a great job on my blonde color and a great cut. Charged 18 colones for a haircut and 25 colones for color. Got us both in within 25 minutes of walking in without and appointment.

May 1st, 2017 Mama Toucans Grocery

Cute, hippy grocery store. Has most of the essentials plus specialty items like vegan ice cream, nuts and seeds, good coffee, kombucha (although the place next door, mono congo, has great kombucha on tap), variety of cheeses, natural toothpaste, etc. A little pricey but some stuff is very hard to find on the road. The tumeric water "Te Namaste" is good stuff. Owners are cool.

May 1st, 2017 Cafe Mono Congo

Yummy coffee shop with good food including some vegan/healthier options. Great place to sit to do some work online while sipping a matcha latte. Good wireless connection. Wireless PW "monkeypunch".

March 9th, 2017 Playa Mina / playa Zapotillal

Just adding on to my last post. Bonuses about this wild campsite that have been really fantastic - you can see bioluminescence in the water at night!! Even with a really bright moon, you can still see them and if you stomp around in the sand next to the shoreline, you can see the little glowing specks in the sand. Also, there is a mirador to hike up to and a decent snorkeling spot next to the rocks. And as previously noted, HUNDREDS of hermit crabs - so if you're into setting up crab races, this is your place. We slept like babies against the sounds of crashing waves and had a very nice breeze at night. Also to note: you will not get phone service of any kind here.

March 8th, 2017 Playa Mina / playa Zapotillal

Wild beach camping. Best at the end of the beach - there are flat areas under patches of trees for shade. So far, completely quiet and we are totally alone. Earlier there were some atv tours that came thru at sunset but that's it. GORGEOUS beach!!! We did have to use our lockers to get through some very soft sand on the way in. Amazing spot. Feels safe but it's only about 730 now. I will update if that changes.

March 7th, 2017 AMAZING Wild camping spot

Great cliffside spot. Hidden road. No one around. INCREDIBLE

March 6th, 2017 Hostel & Camping Alouatta

The CUTEST little juice/smoothie bar and campsite. Brand new. A couple of options. Car camping is 8 USD PP with a view of the ocean, wifi, bathrooms, showers and we forgot to ask about hookups. Or they have these canvas glamping-style tents that are beautiful inside - they are 48 for a private tent and 17 for a bed in a non private tent. Juice was yummy. Very happy chickens on site - they have a lot of local info and assistance available, too for tours, transport, etc. r

March 6th, 2017 River Crossing

Totally crossable right now, but we are told due to both VERY aggressive crocodiles and BULL SHARKS in river, during rainy season it is not possible. Locals told us two people were bitten by sharks and one adult woman EATEN by crocodile at this river crossing last year. One of the shark bites came when a guy got stuck and got out of his vehicle.

March 4th, 2017 Ferry from Puntarenas to Paquera

Drove up to ferry entrance, the man gave us a laminated card and allowed me to drive up to the front of the line. Then passenger had to get out and walk across the street to get a ticket for both the driver and herself. They had her walk on and had me drive. Hide your external propane tank before you board. They said that the captain won't allow us on with the propane in sight. We boarded the ferry about 45 min before the scheduled 5:00pm. No reservations needed. Cost only $27 USD for two people, our dog and a big landcruiser. We had to keep our dog in the car with the fan on. Liquor, beer and snacks are onboard.

February 26th, 2017 Bullshit checkpoint

Cop tried to say we were getting a seatbelt infraction and wanted to hold our license and registration until we could go to bank to come back. We refused, said we would just camp there until his boss arrived or he could just give us a ticket and we would go pay it. We wore him down with more than usually bad Spanish and refusals. He finally just gave us back our stuff and sent us on our way.

February 23rd, 2017 Hotel Monte Verde

Great little restaurant and bar with areas for camping and a pool. Hot shower although, it's so hot here it's the first time I wished the shower was cold. HOWLER MONKEYS!!! Young, the owner is really nice and accommodating. 5 pp. dogs okay. Electric available.
