Part 3)
On Saturday, Matthias presented us the bill and it was a real slap in the face for us. He told us he had stopped counting the hours when he reached 72 hours. With the noted work and the approximation we did, we reached a total of ~15 hours of work on our van. He explained us that he had made the following calculation to reach his 72 hours: 4 days of work × 9hours per day × 2 mechanics. While on site, we saw only during 2 hours 2 mechanics working at the same time on our van (during 22hours of observation). Moreover during 10 hours of observation, no work was done on and around our van. One entire day, Tuesday, was dedicated to buying spare parts. When they told us about that on Monday, I researched the parts on autozone. I found them all, apart the brushing, in the shop 3 miles away. He went either way on a whole day shoping coming home late night, comenting he could not find the parts. I drove with him the next morning to Autozone, showed him the parts, bought by them, they were fitting perfectly.
After long discussion with Matthias, he offered us to pay "only" 42 hours of work. He had previously offered us his special discount for overlanders, and billing us only 50 hours. He made clear he would not go any lower than 42 hours. So we paid and left.

We waited now a month before writing a comment because we wanted to undersand if we had made a mistake. We visited other mechanics to gather other point of views and we can now affirm that 72 hours of work was pure fantasy. We have the feeling that we got ripped off. We don’t think this is a scam, but just a really poorly managed shop.
We discussed the issue with Matthias during 2 hours he had no better answer than lowering the hours down to 42. We sadly can't recommend this place, even with the good work done.

July 1st, 2019 Parking lots in Chapultepec

Best place to visit Mexico City!!
80MXP/ camper (no matter the size) per day.
Very safe.
5MXP/ restrooms (open 24h).
Near to metro station (5MXP/ride).

June 27th, 2019 Free campsite - beautiful

What a awesome spot! After visiting some cities, we needed a camp spot in the middle of nature. We spent 3 days and saw absolutely no soul. The only sounds you will hear are the trees waving in the wind, and birds whistling their songs.
There is a possibility to make a pit fire, but bring your own wood, as the one here is humid...
It is free, you just have to give your name at the park entry.

June 20th, 2019 Hierve el Agua

Best plan:
Come in the late afternoon (~5pm). Pay entry and camping. Park at the very right of the site.
Go for the 1 hour hike. It’s beautiful!
Next morning (~7:30am) go for a swim by yourself. Leave when tourists arrive (~9am).
Dusk and dawn are beautiful here!

June 20th, 2019 El Milenario

Very good restaurant, filled with locals.
The mole negro is amazing.

June 19th, 2019 Refugio Terraza de la Tierra

Wonderful place!

Already on iOverlander under „Hotel“. It‘s a huge site in the middle of the cloud forest. They offer a 3-course meal (vegetarian) at their restaurant, from veggies and fruits they grow on site.
You can do 4 different hikes starting from here. Don’t miss the „Arbol de la Luna“.

100MXP/pP
including:
- Wifi (at the restaurant)
- WC & hot shower (they lend you towels!)
- sauna (with fresh herbs over the hot stones)

They offer daily Yoga lessons at a small cost.

Very recommended!! We came during low season, so there was no one, and we had the place (and the parking lot) for ourselves.
Enjoy!

June 17th, 2019 Overlander Beach Campsite “Don Taco”.

Anneke and Franz are two very welcoming hosts. We spent 4 wonderful days here and snorkelled every day in this clear blue water, observing a coral reef with colourful fishes in all shapes and sizes. Just WOW.
Don’t miss this spot!

Night: 100MXP/ pP
Electrical hookup: 50MXP/ 24h

June 16th, 2019 Beach massages!!

Very good massages. Alex (speaks English perfectly!!) asks you if you want a deep tissue massage or a relaxing one. Got the first, and I have to say I am more than happy. In the end he explains you, what he did. Professional! Would do it again 😊

June 10th, 2019 Restaurant Buena Vista

Indeed beautiful spot, but it gets very hot and humid during the day...
The owner is very friendly and lets you sleep for free if you consume a meal at her restaurant. The prices are quite high though. For two little meals (we were still hungry afterwards), including one drink, we paid MXP300. Quite busy with locals on a Sunday, so bathrooms and shower were dirty. Who knows, if you come during the week you will enjoy it more ;)

June 9th, 2019 Salina Cruz shopping mall

This is not the nicest Walmart to spend the night... Hot and humid as hell. Would not recommend. But to do groceries before heading to the coast it is perfect.

June 8th, 2019 Police Check!

Police wanted to check our car for drugs. Entered in our van, asked us some questions about our trip and let us go after a few minutes.

June 8th, 2019 Drug check! Unscrewed our floor!

Police checked our car thoroughly for drugs. We even had our floor unscrewed!! They even wanted to drill holes into the side panels to check for drugs. But then the „boss“ (dressed in a white shirt) arrived and they let us go. Very unfriendly, harsh, and unprofessional!

June 8th, 2019 Cascadas El Aguacero

What a place!
A spot you are not allowed to miss. The waterfalls and the nature down here are splendid!
Toilets and showers are clean and the campsite felt very safe.

Entry: 36MXP/ pP
Camping: 100MXP/ vehicle
Worth every penny!

June 6th, 2019 Oh la la! REAL french bakery #2

As written on another point on iOverlander, Oh La La have a second store. It is amazing. The pastries are as good as in France and the café latte is CRAZY.

June 3rd, 2019 El Caracol de Jade

A lot of locals were eating in this little restaurant near the main plaza when we were there. Very yummy and cheap!
We parked our van just next to the plaza and had an eye on it from the restaurant. Safe and very recommendable!

June 2nd, 2019 Police checkpoint

Police stopped us, looked in the vehicle, and wanted to know what our journey was.
Friendly.

June 2nd, 2019 Cesar y Sílvia

Paid 50MXP/car to stay for the night. They had no food left when we arrived at 4pm.
Safe and quiet spot. Nothing special, but pk for one night.

June 2nd, 2019 caseta de cobro palenque

2:45pm, we had to pay 36MXP/pP to enter the park. It is valid for 5 days.

June 1st, 2019 Free camp spot by the beach

This place is permanently closed.

June 1st, 2019 Cenaduría Los Portales de San Francisco

Was closed for lunch...
who knows, maybe you‘re more lucky than us!

May 31st, 2019 Laguna Rosada

What a beautiful wild spot!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Was very hot during the day, but the view out on these rosy lagoons with the flamingos makes you forget about the temperature.
And big plus: no mosquitoes 🦟!

Telcel: 4G reception

May 31st, 2019 Cenote Kankirixche

Now they are asking for 60MXP/pP for the cenote. We asked why the prices doubled since April (last comment), they said they were building the stairs new. Worth the price, beautiful place.
We didn’t stay for the night, but they told us it’s 100MXP/pP to camp.
Showers, WC, and a little restaurant.

May 29th, 2019 police check

Searched through our entire car meticulously for drugs or arms.
Not friendly at all.

May 29th, 2019 Suytun Cenotes

They ask for MXP200/pP. You can use facilities (WC, shower, swimming pool), but don’t expect them to be clean...

Wifi is very fast! That’s a plus!

The Suytun Cenote was very crowded with people taking photo shootings... so was not really enjoyable.

Go early in the morning (8am) to have the place for yourself.
There is a second cenote just near the main entrance which is very beautiful as well - and no one there!!
FYI: At 10am there is a Maya Show in the main cenote. We didn’t attend.

All in all quite expensive, but worth a visit.

May 27th, 2019 Walmart La Cruz

Walmart is indeed a good option. As mentioned before, opening hours are from 07:00-23:00. Inside you have WiFi. Toilets are dirty, but as it is for free, you can’t really complain...

May 19th, 2019 Steph’s Comedor and Vince’s moonshine

This place is permanently closed.

May 19th, 2019 SLIM's bar and grill

Very good food. For 2 meals + 2 sodas we paid 15 USD.
Just next to the road, friendly service and VERY fast Wifi.

May 19th, 2019 bad road

Indeed horrible road!! As said before, don’t follow Google Maps and continue driving on “Philip Goldson Highway”!
We forgot to check iOverlander beforehand...

May 5th, 2019 Chorros de la Calera

Beautiful waterfalls. But: full of trash...
We went quite early (07h00) and until 07h30 there was not one soul. That changed afterwards- locals come in masses.

May 5th, 2019 Hotel Alicante

Don’t come.
They want $15 without shower! As said before: total rip off!
We tried to lower it, but there was no way to make them change the price.
