Didn’t stop anybody going East direction Guatemala.. only direction west they are stopping cars

January 31st, 2020 Beach front restaurant Delphin

We didn’t find this exact place, but I think any of these places will let you park. Right on the beach. We had a small snack and a small breakfast and they let us park for free. Stray dogs around so they bark sometimes during the night. Also the fisherman go out at night and early in the morning so you’ll have some of the noise from that. All in all very pretty, safe and fairly quiet.

January 31st, 2020 Jose's Camping And Cabanas

Nice and quiet at night! Lots of shade. Very clean showers and toilets. Lots of room.. dump available for emptying tanks. I don’t think they serve food anymore.. we went and had dinner at el selling a block down and over , right on the beach. Order the camarones narurales..,delicious!!! Beautiful sunset!!

January 31st, 2020 Check point

It’s some squad of criminal investigation crew. They stopped us and asked where we came from and where we are going. The lady opened rear door and knocked on panels but nothing more. Then they said they we could go. Going East

January 29th, 2020 Gas de Oaxaca

January 26th, 2020 Refugio Terraza de la Tierra

Very beautiful and quiet place. Not for big rigs. We barely made it with full size pick-camper. $200 for the night for peace and quiet (we thought it too much but stayed). There was one level spot for us, with smal van its ok.They have a restaurant with vegan food.and they have rooms. Friendly people

January 26th, 2020 Overlander Beach Campsite “Don Taco”.

Very nice place! Room for about 6 campers. Close together but for some reason it’s just perfect! There is a clean kitchen and a shower and 2 toilets. There are multiple palapas to sit under with communal table, where people tend to gather. The owners, Anneke and Frans, are very accommodating hosts who are helpful and personable. Direct beach access and many restaurants to choose from. We would go back and recommend it strongly.

January 21st, 2020 El jacalon

We had very good carnitas; pork with tortillas and pico de Gallo and very good guacamole.. friendly service!

January 19th, 2020 El Rancho RV Park

Great campground. Big grassy area with full hook-ups for about 12 vehicles of any kind and a gravel area with more hook-ups. Super hot showers and clean bathrooms. Swimming pool. Very friendly owners. Shade. Close to Tule to visit and Oaxaca by bus. Monte Albán ruins are close and well worth a visit. $250 a night is a great deal!!

January 18th, 2020 Hierve el Agua

Lots of parking. Busy during the day but at night super quiet. Beautiful views on the mountains. Toilets available. $10pp to drive thru town, $25pp to enter the site and $50pp for camping.. the site is pretty cool but not very big.. it’s ok!

January 17th, 2020 Policia federal

Very friendly. Stopped a passenger bus in front of us. The cop came to us and shook our hand and asked where we are going and said that when the bus goes we can go. Very friendly.

January 17th, 2020 D’Vida agua purificada

Refill your bottles with agua purificada.. $17 por garafon.. friendly folks. It’s in a dead end one-way street and there are lots of one-way street so you have to kind of drive around 😜

January 16th, 2020 Boat Launch Parking

Nice folks. Right by a boat launch. They let us park even when we weren’t going to do the boat into the canyon. Can’t park on the left dirt parking lot (it isn’t theirs) but you can park in their part on the right. Very quiet except there was the annual fiesta Parachicos (15jan-23jan) but we knew that so we knew there would be musica till the early hours! Wasn’t bad at all.. the fiestas were fenomenal! They have toilets you can use for $5.

January 16th, 2020 Balneario Ojo De Agua Tlacotepec

Quiet safe night for $50 for 2 people in a truck/camper combo. Wonderful water, very clear. You can swim in the pools; there are some small fish in it. Lots of shade. Big parking lot with big concrete palapas. We parked on the car parking under the trees in the shade right next to the little running river with equally clear water. We bathed in it in the morning.. wonderful.
Lots of wind, birds and we had 3 earthquake shocks. Pretty scary until you realize what it is. :-)) quiet a bit of garbage but you can find clean spots.. good for safe overnight stop. Friendly people!

January 16th, 2020 Military checkpoint

Just waved us through, actually didn’t even come out of their digs..

January 16th, 2020 Frontera Chiapas-Oaxaca

They wanted a donation.. no military just drop a coin in the jar 😉

January 16th, 2020 Police Checkpoint

Just drove through. The cops Where in their tent sitting in the shade .. too hot I guess.. 35 C?!

January 15th, 2020 Frida’s frites

Just found this real Dutch owned frites shop! For now only frites with many sauces but they are going to do kroket also! Very friendly owner and his local wife.. very good frites!!! Nice change from tacos 😁

January 13th, 2020 Rancho San Nicolas

Conveniently located close to downtown! Very nice showers (hot) and toilets. Lots of shade. Quiet at night. $300 per night for 2 people. When coming from the Periférico from the southeast you have to make a sharp left turn (a short distance before crossing the bridge) on a dirt road that is steep and with potholes but ok for our 23ft truck with camper. We didn’t try the route through downtown.. we actually went too far across the bridge, but it turned out ok because then you don’t have to make the sharp left turn on the dirt road.

January 11th, 2020 turn with checkpoint

Just waved us through. Military stop.. friendly

January 11th, 2020 Cascada El Corralito

Very nice cascades. We camped overnight with one other traveler for $100, swimming included. You can park down by the waterfalls but the incline is too big to find a lever spot. Or you can park above (straight up from the entrance) where it’s level and next to the neighbors. They have a dog and roosters (so they wake you from time to time) but overall very quiet and safe. Very friendly people !! The 199 from palenque to San cristobal is long and lots of topes so we didn’t make it all the way.. there are a couple of little stores.. bbq and tables and benches..

January 10th, 2020 kim balam camping ground

$120pp for camping. $160pp if you also want to use kitchen and wifi. We ate lunch at the restaurant and used wifi. You have use of the pool. We were the only ones and you park in the grassy field. No shade. 2,5km to the ruins. A collectivo (little vans) to the ruins from right outside the camp is $20pp. Fast and easy. The ruins open at 8am. Right at the camp there is a toll booth where you pay $37 to get in the archeological area. Then you pay entrance for the ruins ($80pp in jan 2020). Amazing ruins!

January 10th, 2020 Valle de Bascan - Centro Ecoturistico

This is where you should camp when visiting the cascades. At roberto barrios you kinda park close to the road and in the middle of town.. this place is wonderful. Safe, clean, and $25pp for swimming and $50pp for camping. There’s a small restaurant open 9am-5pm. Wonderful swimming and beautiful setting! Friendly people. Quiet at night. We camped Friday to Saturday.. there’s a stop in Santa Cruz where you pay $10pp to pass.. fairly official?! We went on to San cristobal and tried continuing the same road but it got too bumpy for our pick-up camper.. we turned around and went back towards palenque and turned on 199. 199 had no roadblocks except for a couple of small villages where kids put rope across the road and want to sell you something.. just drive thru slowly!

January 10th, 2020 Village Toll

Looks fairly official. They have a banner and a toll booth and if you ask for a receipt, they have an official receipt for you.. $10pp .. for maintaining the grutta and help locals! Very friendly. Beautiful road from palenque to the cascades..

January 9th, 2020 Large Aduana Checkpoint

We were derived to camion es with our truck and camper. One stop. Friendly lady asked for TIP and where we came from. That was it..
