August 22nd, 2019 Traffic Police

Whomever posted this is overreacting.

I was stopped and they asked for vehicle documents and driver’s license. After a few minutes they brought it back and wished me happy travels. Very friendly and professional.

August 22nd, 2019 BSE / Banco de seguros

This is the correct location to purchase insurance for Uruguay.

July 25th, 2019 Lagoa do Japones

The lagoon is stunningly beautiful with crystal clear blue and turquoise water and caves you can swim in and out of. Bring water shoes as the boulders under the water can be sharp. Whenever you stand still the tiny fish will nibble dead skin off your feet, legs and back. It’s a little disconcerting at first, but a unique experience.

Now the bad:
The campground isn’t much to write home about. If you’re car camping there’s only a few flat spots. Same if you’re tent camping as well. The bathrooms aren’t clean, flip flops highly recommended. There are two outdoor showers though. I just used that. The restaurant food is good but expensive.

$25 reais per person for day use, $50 reais per person to camp.

July 5th, 2019 Pousada Senna

Very basic accommodations but spotless and the friendliest hosts. R$65 reais per night with breakfast. R$50 without breakfast.

Close to center of town where there’s a few restaurant options.

Plenty of parking for bikes and cars and trucks, not sure about RVs. But it’s such a quiet town I doubt anything would happen if you parked on the street.

May 17th, 2019 Turn here to go to Shalala

Google Maps will send you to the incorrect location. This is where you turn. It’s another 7k on this road from this point.

May 15th, 2019 Police Checkpoint

They will ask about fore extinguisher and safety cones/triangles. I had mine and my paperwork was in order, so they let me go. My buddy drove through here a few days prior and had to pay a 150000 peso “fine” for not having an extinguisher.

April 20th, 2019 Do not speed! Lots of cops every 20k or so.

Do not speed on this section. The speed limits constantly change from 80 to 100 to 50 and there are police with speed traps every 20k or so.

I got a ticket. Cop was NOT corrupt, he was very professional. But still no fun to get a $50 fine.

This is easter weekend so they may be out in more numbers than usual, but it’s good to stay alert anyways.

April 15th, 2019 Road not passable

Google Maps may send you down this way. You’ll have to turn around. The road becomes very narrow with rickety wooden bridges. The first two are passable but the third is only passable by bicycle or motorcycle. There’s no space to turn around. You will have to backup.

April 14th, 2019 Ranchos La Isla

Come here if you need to escape the heat. It was 95 degrees when I left Quepos and when I arrived here late in the afternoon it was 60 degrees. The temperature dropped further into the night.

The bathrooms are clean and the showers are warm.

The only noise you’ll hear is from the birds and the rushing waters nearby.

April 9th, 2019 Empty beachfront lot

Nice flat ground with mostly packed sand. Good for most sized rigs. Shade provided by tree in late afternoon. Unobstructed panoramic beach views. You will be seen from the road but locals driving by all waved hello and smiled. Nobody bothered me. Very quiet at night. Only sounds were of the waves crashing nearby.

No wifi, but full LTE signal on Movistar.

This is most likely undeveloped private property, so it may not be around for much longer. I wouldn’t stay for more than one or two nights.

March 20th, 2019 Camping Cancun RV

Arrived. One person in SUV. No need for electricity as I’m not RV. He wanted 500 pesos. No wonder it looked empty.

February 27th, 2019 Campestre las Cascadas

Arrived here and gate is closed and locked. Can’t tell if place is closed permanently or just because it’s middle of the week.

February 26th, 2019 Flamingo hotel

Inquired about camping and was told hotel rooms only. I asked how much and cheapest room was 1100mx pesos. I found a great holiday-inn type hotel for half that on hotel tonight app.

February 18th, 2019 Hotel Costa Bahia

Last poster said wash rooms weren’t the cleanest. I don’t know about the women’s room, but the men’s room is absolutely filthy. I refuse to shower in there. Just use the outdoor shower by the pool and hope you don’t have to poop while you’re staying there.

February 17th, 2019 El Mirador

Good spot. ATV tours might come by during the day. Can be quite dusty when bikers and cars drive by.

Be sure to eat some guavas from the guava trees. They are yummy.

Full LTE signal but quite slow for some reason.

February 7th, 2019 Punta la Tinaja, BCS.

Beautiful beach with sea lions hanging around on the rocks. It was a bit breezy when I arrived just before sunset but it got calm soon after. I parked close to the cliff on the north side to get some protection but it wasn’t really needed. Sand is very loose so be sure to air down your tires.

February 2nd, 2019 Rocky Beach

Nice spot just outside of town. Be careful as there are some areas that you can get stuck in, which I did. Thankfully I was able to get out on my own.

January 26th, 2019 Baja Voyager

Came here to get shocks, springs and brake pads done on my truck. I had the parts. They provided labor. They were extremely friendly. There’s a waiting room with comfortable couches and cable tv if you choose to wait. The bathrooms are spotless - I wish I needed to poop. I probably won’t find bathrooms this clean for weeks again. If you need to, you can also shower here. Highly recommend this place.

January 25th, 2019 Centro Recretivo Mi Refugio

Very nice place like everyone says. A bit of road noise but that’s not the owner’s fault. It dies down after 10pm or so but picks up again around 6am.

January 23rd, 2019 Santee Lakes

The price is misleading. This is an RV park. $6 is if you want to enter the park for day use. If you want to camp they only have RV sites and it’s $49 and up.

November 15th, 2018 Wind Mountain

It looks like a normal pull out, but there’s a short road that leads to a opening behind the trees and boulders.

Decent cell signal with AT&T.
