March 26th, 2019 Rest Stop with free dump station

yay free dump stop!!!! Still here still free. To the side of the rest stop on the way back out to the highway.

March 25th, 2019 Mack’s Creek Campground

not open at present although there is no snow. Probably opens April or May?

March 24th, 2019 Diamond Campground

Paved road in, no snow on the road. the gate was open (yay), one of the few areas actually open at this time of year. one loop of the campground was open. no one seemed to be around collecting fees. quiet, beautiful night.

March 21st, 2019 Close to Zion off Hwy 9

Several spots along the old highway. Several other campers there already when we arrived so we pulled up the first spot which is a bit steep and bumpy but not unmanageable and levels out at the top. Lots of broken glass and rusty old tins so please make sure to practice no trace camping!

March 21st, 2019 Stewart's Point

Quiet, free, many spots to park. Lots of other campers about but enough space that it's still quiet and pleasant.

March 19th, 2019 blm road 422A (north of hwy 89a)

Great quiet night. No one else around. We stayed just to the left of the coordinates, around the corner at a nice flat open spot.

March 18th, 2019 Red Mountain

Turnoff at sign for Red Mountain trailhead. Several dispersed sites on the righthand side as you drive in. Beautiful views of red mountain. No signs prohibiting overnight stays that we could see. Minimal road noise, not visible from road.
One of the only roads open at this time of year. Many forest service roads along this road are blocked off still from winter.

March 17th, 2019 In the middle of the pins

Road in currently closed. not sure when they open it.

March 11th, 2019 Windstar Gas LP

TLDR: Weird service guy, not recommended to fill up here. Every other place we've been it's been super straightforward and simple, hand them the tank, they fill it, you pay. Here, the guy was really weird, acted like we were inconveniencing him by coming there. He attached the nozzle to our tank and it was hissing and he was saying 'no es propane, es air' and shaking his finger. (we had literally been using the tank to run our fridge and cook this morning, so it definitely works and still has some propane in it).... so we just told him to stop and give it back. maybe if you speak fluent Spanish it's possible to fill here.

March 11th, 2019 Agua Purificada Iceberg

Still there, they do have open hours daily, I think it was Mon-Sat 8 or 9am to 6pm and Sunday shortened hours.

March 10th, 2019 Fruit / Veggie inspection

Super rude guy telling us we need to fumigate the truck and camper at a cost of 100 pesos despite many other pickup trucks and transports passing through which we pointed out. We opened up the back for him and when my husband told him he is a firefighter he let us go and was all smiles. Ugh.

March 9th, 2019 Road block?

Still blocking the road ahead of the toll booth and asking 50pesos to pass. Really rude people. No police around to control this. We refused and turned around to take the libre road simply because they were being so confrontational and rude and not explaining what this 50p was for exactly. Sorry, but just not down with that kind of shenanigans.

March 9th, 2019 Police Control Ojo de Agua

Let us pass through as we don't speak much Spanish and they didn't speak English. I think the lady asked what we were transporting (we have a truck camper) but they didn't look in or anything.

March 9th, 2019 Parque Nacional Sierra De Órganos

Beautiful spot, good price 40p per person per night. We were the only ones there except for some javelinas. Enjoyed a hike in the morning with the dogs.

March 9th, 2019 Playa Cueta Malecon Parking

The previous posters must have stayed here on a weeknight because tonight, a Saturday, it has been an absolutely constant stream of cars driving by since nightfall, most blasting music, some with bass loud enough to shake our entire vehicle. A car with 4 large fellows parked behind us and had few drinks and talked noisily then drove off. Definitely would not stay here again, nor recommend it to others. Perhaps weeknights are different, but to me, the heavy traffic and intoxicated individuals do not make this seem like and ideal or safe spot. There are many other nice beach spots in the area that are quieter and safer to overnight at.

March 9th, 2019 A-pu-ra

not open today (Saturday) at 1045am but looks like it does still exist. no hours listed outside.

March 5th, 2019 Parque La Primavera Campamento El Pedernal

clean, quiet, still 50p per person for an overnight stay. Couldn't find the hot springs river or weren't allowed into it? Drove to where we thought it was and the guy didn't let us pass...we don't know enough Spanish to fully understand what was up. Anyways it was a nice place to pass a night.

March 4th, 2019 r.g.propen

Still here, filled our mostly empty 20lb tank for 185p. You pull up out front and they will open the door and receive your tank then bring it back out to you.

March 4th, 2019 Purificadora Sta. Clara

Still open. Hours are 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

March 3rd, 2019 Lienzo "Charros de Jalisco" (Rodeo)

Still going on, still 50p. I personally have mixed feelings being an animal lover and rider myself. However, my partner had fun and the dogs were allowed to join us inside. I would beg to differ that there is a lot of parking out front...it's a fairly slim sidestreet that you have to park up on the grassy median a bit.

March 3rd, 2019 Commercial Parking Lot

130p per night. Our F250 and camper fit in here fine. Quiet at night. Flush toilet but bathroom door doesn't really lock and the sink didn't seem to work? Anyhow, friendly guard Manuel and good location make it great for a night or 2.

March 2nd, 2019 Purificadora Aquatìo

Friendly service, 13p per garafon fill. one of the guys speaks some English. Hours are Monday to Saturday 8am-6pm.

March 1st, 2019 Chapala public parking

It is a perfect spot.....just not on a Friday night during carnaval. Unfortunately around 9:00pm, the mariachi music started up so loud we could feel the reverberations through the truck. We stuck it out until 2am when we moved just down the street a ways where it was still audible, but not vibrating our vehicle.
Would probably be great any other non-festival weekday time of year as the location is great and not busy.

February 27th, 2019 Kayak Queretaro

We didn't stay here but just outside the gates there are a few level spots on the lakeshore where we parked. Nobody said anything or bothered us during the night.
I honestly didn't find it at all noisy to sleep with the highway nearby, there are many types of birds to watch, overall enjoyable.
Not so enjoyable was trying to get turned back around to go Northwest. The underpasses are too low for truck campers so you have to go back along the highway abouy 5km. If you're heading south it's no problem of course.

February 27th, 2019 near Parador Turistica

Beautiful spot, not too much trash around, only a couple bikes went by around 6pm. We actually didn't end up sleeping here tonight because the police municipal came by around 8pm (after a drive by shortly after we arrived) and recommended to stay at the soccer field for increased safety. They did tell us that someone else stayed 2 nights ago and another lady stayed recently for 4 nights with no issues so whether anything bad has actually happened to anyone out here or not, who knows...there were beer xans and condoms on the ground nearby so maybe it's a hookup spot? They told us it's up to us if we moved or not and they'd check in the morning on us if we stayed there (nice guys really, totally not corrupt).

February 27th, 2019 Soccer field

stayed here after recommendation of police to move into town where they regularly patrol.
pro: level, free, patrolled by police
con: less beautiful and more noisy than the parador turistica spot.

February 26th, 2019 The water house 24

Still open, still 12 pesos. is actually on the main street so parking could be a bit tight for a big rig.

February 25th, 2019 Comedor Mony Wonka

Very friendly, clean establishment. Good prices (giant fresh made juice for 20p, veggie burrito for 45p), food made fresh to order.

February 25th, 2019 Rancho Viejo - teotihuacan pyramides

Very pleasant hosts Omar, Julia, and Karim. Helped us to find our way to Mexico City for the day and watched our dogs for us while we were there. Wonderful hot shower and very clean bathrooms.
We did not hook up to power here. Quiet at night.
Wifi decent on guest terrace.
We were gifted with some cactus fruits!
price: 250p per night.
pyramides about 30 to 40 min walk away.

February 25th, 2019 Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary El Rosario

Still free to camp overnight, at least we got there around 6:30pm and parked in the middle lot, and nobody bothered us. Lots of broken glass. Quite a few dogs barking but none directly around us.
Price to visit the sanctuary was 50p which seemed to include a guide although not everyone had a guide with them? We tipped her although the path is obvious to follow and she didn't speak any English and our Spanish is limited.
