January 14th, 2020 Peluqueria Canina Pelu-Can

We found this place to get our dog groomed, they did an exceptional job! I don’t think his ears have ever been so clean! 600C for a large dog, 400C for a small. They also have some medication for sale, flea/tick, worms, etc.

January 13th, 2020 La Tortuga Verde

We ended up spending 8 days here. We told them we only wanted to spend $45 and they easily accepted this. Initially wanted to charge $7/day for the two of us, our dog, and the van. We cooked most of the time but did eat dinner at the restaurant two of the nights as well as bought some drinks- they want people who come to eat mainly at the restaurant but they didn’t mind us cooking at all. Even used an outlet in the office to cook some rice in our instant pot. a little pricier than other places in the area. Good food. Adela’s next door had great papusas and tortas- ate there a couple times as well. Fisherman sell their catch on the beach, not every day but keep an eye out. Tom the owner is a trip, and incredibly kind and helpful. We found a tapeworm in our dogs Poo when we got there and asked Tom if there was a vet in the area. He went out of his way to procure meds for our dog. He also tipped his guys off at the Honduras border to help us through the line quickly, super helpful. Loved our time here, would recommend.

December 16th, 2019 Family House / Casa de familia

We messaged Jorge before visiting but didn’t receive a response. Still went and was greeted by his wife, Maldani. Extremely kind and gracious people. They gave us some of their chickens eggs laid that day! And some salsa Fresca and another soy dish that she made. We spent at least an hour chatting with Jorge when he returned and it was helpful to practice Spanish as he spoke some English and could help when we got stock. They have a beautiful property with many animals and there were goats that were 4 days old!!! They watched our dog for us the next morning while we visited Tikal and even let us shower when we got back from the Parque before we left. Highly highly recommend!

December 12th, 2019 Balneario Ejidal Buenavista

Was only going to spend one night here but didn’t want to leave! Ended up staying two. Javier was extremely kind and really made our stay even more special. He invited us to have coffee with him in the morning and a michelada with him in the afternoon. He even drove us around the town for a tour and took us to a local party that was being held in the town for some delicious lunch. All of which he did not charge for though his nightly rate has raised to 250/nt. The palapas and dock are are all new-ish and in great condition. The sand bottom of the lake is more sandy and less like the mud closer to bacalar. There are no rocks in between the docks which makes it great for wading out and relaxing in the water. The bathrooms and showers are clean and well kept. They have an Italian partner of the property that makes napolitano style pizzas in the brick oven! Though he was gone while we were staying. Highly highly recommend

November 26th, 2019 Checkpoint - traffic jam

They were checking vehicles going north today but no inspection going south.

November 12th, 2019 Checkpoint

Location is a little further north than this place was indicating. Mostly large semi trucks pulled over but asked us to stop. Asked where we were from and traveling to. Asked us to pull over for simple inspection. Then another unofficial looking guy came over to joke with us asking for a dollar to buy a coke. We told him we didn’t have a dollar. And then the official came back and asked if we had any weapons or drugs and said it wasn’t mandatory but if we wanted to give a donation so the guy could buy a coke we could. Strange. We said thank you and they let us go.

October 21st, 2019 Punta arena

Stayed here last night. Water was beautiful. The beach had some trash on it and therefore flies. We were the only one there. No one came to collect a fee.

October 21st, 2019 Internet cafe / print shop

Stopped at this place for some internet. Paid $20MXP pp per hour. Decent speed. 7mbps download.

October 20th, 2019 Punta Prieta

Great spot. Ended up staying 3 nights with no issues at all. Some locals came to dig clams, scallops and to fish. They even offered to sell us some of their clams. Did some swimming, saw some rays. Peaceful.

October 18th, 2019 Aqua Purificado

Paid 36 pesos for 50 liters. Man was super helpful, washed out our water jug, put on a face mask, apron, etc. would not handle money in the water room. Very professional

October 17th, 2019 Military Checkpoint

There was no check point on October 17, 2019.

October 17th, 2019 La Casa Del Cylista

We arrived and there was no one there. About an hour later a couple on bicycles that was staying there showed up and called the owner for us. We are in our camper van so we didn’t just want to park behind their gate without permission. The owner said no problem and charge was 100pesos for our van + 2 of us. We parked and the family arrived back around 9:30pm. We introduced ourselves and paid. Super nice. Very warm shower. Recommend

October 17th, 2019 end of bitumen / last fuel

Paved road now continues just past the turn off for coco’s corner.

October 16th, 2019 Coco's Corner

Coco is quite the character. We stopped in and had a couple beers, stayed the night in our van parked on his property. He shared some stories about his life and we are so glad we made it his way. Cocos Corner is only 6km off the main road coming south (a new highway is being paved). Fairly easy trek to get here. Coco said business has been slow the last several years because the new highway is now the preferred way to travel south. So go in and see him! Even if it is a little off the main drag.

September 18th, 2019 Tahoe City Visitors Information Center

Felt weird about just hooking up to the building because there are windows right by it that you can see inside. Went in and asked the woman working if there were any hose hook ups we could use near by and she offered the hook up on the building. We only needed about 15 gallons so that may have helped. She was incredibly nice!

September 15th, 2019 Parking at Discovery Museum (near Sausalito)

Tried to stay a 2nd night after being in SF all day. There were 5 or so campers and we all got asked to leave. Last night we were the only ones. May have been too many tonight. The cop was friendly and suggested other places to stay in our van for the night.

September 14th, 2019 Parking at Discovery Museum (near Sausalito)

Great spot for the night. Had a beautiful view of the bridge. It was extremely quiet. Saw a cop when we first got in at 6pm and we’re making dinner with our doors open. He waved as he drove by, no issues at all. No “no” signs. No parking signs at all really.

September 12th, 2019 Matole Campground

Came here just to park and do a day hike on lost coast to the lighthouse and back. Road is gravel in most sections but pretty manicured. Able to park at the trailhead with no issues and no charge. Water is cut off at the trail head.

September 11th, 2019 The Lost Coast And Cape Mendecino

Stayed here 1 night. Came from Ferndale and it took about an hour to get here. Actually pulled off a stop a little further north than where this is marked as there were no fences along the road where we stayed. Based on reviews I thought the road would be much worse but we did have sunny and relatively calm weather- it was a gorgeous drive. We drove it in our 2wd ford transit with all terrain tires. It was mostly paved though a bit rough at times but more than doable. The wind did get a little strong at certain times when parked but calmed way down after sunset. Quiet road, beautiful view. Truly wild coast.

September 7th, 2019 Pull off off Parking lot

We parked in the parking lot rather in the “drive way” as the clearance was low for our Transit. Had no issues. Level parking. Some road noise but not bad. Epic spot down the trail for photos or to just walk along the beach. Headed back down in the morning for a walk through all the rocky structures. Incredible.

September 4th, 2019 Rocky Creek State Scenic Viewpoint

Incredible spot. Watched gray whales for a solid 24 hours. Didn’t want to leave!! Grassy area where we picnicked. Quiet and peaceful night of sleep.

August 22nd, 2019 Cliver point park

Didn’t stay here, signs saying no sleeping in vehicles. There were several other campers though that may be chancing it.

August 8th, 2019 Overnight Parking Area - Cypress Park

Stayed here last night with no issues! The overnight lot is 3B. There are a few other lots and none of them allow overnight parking. 3B is the only lot you can park overnight. Fine for an overnight spot. Great hikes at cypress park.

August 6th, 2019 Near Frog Falls

Tried to grab a spot at Frog Falls but got there too late. This place was a perfect find! It is right by Frog Falls recreation site. There are a few places with fire ring nearby. This specific place is secluded, right on the river, has a fire pit and two tree stumps for seats. Just a 5 minute walk for a view of the waterfall. Good spot for small rigs and tents.

August 3rd, 2019 Confluence Park

Perfect for the night. Quiet and dark. Did have some helicopters come through early in the morning. Watched sky divers land in the mid afternoon. Great walking/running trail from the boat launch along the river to spirit square in downtown golden. About 2.2km one way.

July 20th, 2019 Grand Teton Lookout

Got up the hill and it was already claimed. Would have been an absolute perfect spot with a beautiful view of the Tetons. Still plenty of spots nearby and we ended up camping up the main road a bit further at site 25. but not quite the views of this spot. Everything claimed about 4x4 not needed. Got up here in our Ford Transit with all terrain tires no problem.

July 19th, 2019 Chief Joseph Highway, Yellowstone

Perfect location. Made it our Ford Transit with AT tires. Really beautiful, totally secluded. There was another camper just down the road as well.

July 11th, 2019 Keweenaw Peninsula High Rock Bay

Attempted to get here in our Ford Transit with AT tires. Got about half way down the dirt road before turning around. A lot of rocks to drive over. Bummed because it looked great.

Recommend an off-road vehicle to get here.

July 8th, 2019 Municipal free Camp

Update: signs all over saying no overnight camping.
