January 1st, 2012 Hostal El Viajero

parking lot of the hostel. It's also the parking lot for several tour Jeeps and therefore we had to park as close as on a ferry. We also had to move several times to let tour Jeeps out. Very dirty toilets. We previously had a look at Hostal Marith, but we found it even more boarder line.

Ride across the Salar de Uyuni. As there was water on the SAlar we did not want to drive our own cars and therefore have booked tour with seven people. The tour included the trip to Isla Pescado, to train cemetery and lunch. Originally 200 Bolivianos / person we bargained to 170 Bolivianos.

January 1st, 2012 Laguna Chiar Kkota (Laguna Negra)

Nice spot overlooking the laguna.

The launa route should be driven only with 4x4 vehicles and high clearance. The route is 400 km long with no options to buy grocery or fuel. The consumption is high due to the altitude (4000-5000 m).

There is no way to dispose garbage on the whole laguna route. Garbage has to be brought to the Chilean Border

January 1st, 2012 Südlich vom Reserva Natural La Payunia

Coming from the north we tried to get in to the Reserva Natural La Payunia. Unfortunately we did not turn right to the park behind the Laguna Llancanelo, but followed the sign "guardaparque". We arrived at an abandoned ranger station and then took the road along the eastern park border. From here you have access into the park. Quite frustrated we ended up staying on a small gravel lot in middle of the Pampas".,0 argentinische Peso/Tag,"(~ 0,00 Euro)

Shady sites under large trees. Rustic bench / table combinations with grills. Due to off season we were all alone. New and very clean bathrooms with hot showers for which we gladly paid extra.

(10 arg. Peso / person, 20 arg. Peso / Car and 7 arg. Peso / person for showers)

January 1st, 2012 Area Natural Protegida Epu Lauquen

A beautiful campground which is charmingly integrated into the forest at the shore. The sites are big enough to have a fantastic view of the turquoise lagoon and they are all equipped with benches, a table and a fire pit. The camping area has a small shop where you can buy firewood. There are several pit toilets in the area and a bathroom with two flush toilets and two showers (On weekends additional charges).

January 1st, 2012 Parque Nacional Conguillío - At the forest

When we arrived at the park it was rainy and overcast with thick clouds. Therefore, we did not know if it was worth visiting the park (4,500 chil. Pesos / person entrance fee). We were allowed to camp for free at the Visitor Center next to the entrance. Restrooms are at the Visitor Center or in the park.

In the park itself, at Lake Conguillío there is one of the most beautiful campgrounds we have seen in Chile (20,000 chil. Peso ~ 31,70 Euros). Beautiful hiking trails in the park.

January 1st, 2012 Termal Ecologica Rio Blanco

The price for camping includes entrance fee to the beautiful natural hot springs. Since we were not able to level the car on the campground, we were allowed to park on the big grassy field. Clean toilets, cold showers. The hot springs are one of the best we have met in Latin America. Several natural swimming pools with sandy soil from 45 ° to 30 ° C. The access to the place is via a pretty bad and sometimes very narrow gravel road.

From the campsite you can cross the river and walk to the National Park Huerquehue.

January 1st, 2012 Former campground of Petrohué

We spent the night (chil 10,000. Pesos) on the large parking lot in front of the official campground. However, we had prior approval from the park rangers that this was not a problem. Clean toilets (300 chil. Pesos) there is a jetty Petrohué.

From the car park / campground starts a very nice trail along the lake and up the lava field of the volcano. The tour of the Saltos de Petrohué is quite nice, but the entrance (1,500 chil. Pesos / person) and the parking fee (270 chil. Pesos / 20 min.) are not really worth it.

January 1st, 2012 Lago Belgrano

Both the entrance to the park, as well as camping are free.

Certainly not the most spectacular National Park in Argentina, but for us it was one of the most beautiful. One night we were allowed to camp on the shore of Lake Belgrano. No facilities on site, but very good and clean toilets 16 km at the Visitor Center Onelli.

The 2.5-hour hike to Laguna Pescado, which starts from the parking lot, is very nice

January 1st, 2012 El Rincon Park Ranger Office

For campers there is a large concrete platform, where you can park your vehicle leveled. Restrooms available.

We drove the 90 km long access road to the Nacional Park back to Ruta 40 in the rain. The track was completely soaked and muddy parts made maneuvering extremely difficult.

January 1st, 2012 Hotel Oberland

Coming from Lake Titicaca you should not let the GPS lead you through the city of La Paz. A few kilometers from the private airport (right side) at S 16.50344 W 68.16327 turn right on the "1" towards Oruro. At the roundabout at W 68.17922 S 16.55438 turn left to the valley to the Hotel Oberland .

One of the most famous meeting point for Overland traveler in South America. It is small parking lot of the hotel Oberland. Place is not level and the car has to be leveld. Very nice and clean bathrooms. Free WIFI. If it is full, you have to park very close to each other. The food in the restaurant is great! Laundry for 15 Bolivianos / kg.
