January 1st, 2012 Laguna Verde Free camping

To stay on the campsite for free you have to pay one time the park admission fee of 110 arg. Peso / person. The entrance fee entitled us officially to stay 2 nights / 3 days in the park. We stayed four nights in the park and no one bothered.

Magnificent site on grass right at the river and the Laguna Verde. Great view of the surrounding mountains. Outhouses and a barrel for dumping. At the park entrance you will receive a small map with beautiful hiking trails.

January 1st, 2012 Camping Los Suizos

For over 20 years Swiss Hans and his Chilean wife run this beautiful forest campground above a cliff of the Rio Callecalle. Clean toilets, hot showers, free WIFI. Well kept pool area. Fire wood for campfires costs 1,500 chil. Peso. A laundry service is not officially available, but we could use the washing machine for chil 2,000. Peso.

January 1st, 2012 Las Cascadas Hosteria y Camping Irma

We had a Prime Site right on the lakeshore away from the rest of the area. Benches and table, fireplace. Rustic toilets, cold showers

January 1st, 2012 Laguna Colorada Camp

On the peninsula of the red laguna overlooking hundreds of flamingos and the mountains.

January 1st, 2012 Former campground of Petrohué

We spent the night (chil 10,000. Pesos) on the large parking lot in front of the official campground. However, we had prior approval from the park rangers that this was not a problem. Clean toilets (300 chil. Pesos) there is a jetty Petrohué.

From the car park / campground starts a very nice trail along the lake and up the lava field of the volcano. The tour of the Saltos de Petrohué is quite nice, but the entrance (1,500 chil. Pesos / person) and the parking fee (270 chil. Pesos / 20 min.) are not really worth it.

January 1st, 2012 Camping Municipal

Shady sites under large trees. Rustic bench / table combinations with grills. Due to off season we were all alone. New and very clean bathrooms with hot showers for which we gladly paid extra.

January 1st, 2012 Area Natural Protegida Epu Lauquen

A beautiful campground which is charmingly integrated into the forest at the shore. The sites are big enough to have a fantastic view of the turquoise lagoon and they are all equipped with benches, a table and a fire pit. The camping area has a small shop where you can buy firewood. There are several pit toilets in the area and a bathroom with two flush toilets and two showers (On weekends additional charges).

From the campground you can do a two-hour hike to the waterfall Chaquiras.

January 1st, 2012 Camping Goye

Run down campground. Many benches, tables and grills are broken. The toilets and hot showers are very rustic. We realised only later that there are two other, better-looking campgrounds in the Colonia Suiza. However, we don't know the prices.

(30 arg. Peso / person)

January 1st, 2012 Aqua Center Sinchi Misahualli

This small jungle lodge is run by a local women Cooperative. Clean toilet and cold water shower. Very clean area. Short trail, observation tower, restaurant and museum. Very nice and helpful staff. Unfortunately it was raining too strong during our stay so couldn't make use of the services of the lodge. We stayed there on Saturday and there was a very loud event with live music and DJs from 11pm til 6am in the morning going on.

January 1st, 2012 Camping Josmar2

Right in the city center. Small campground with tent sites. As an RV camper you can only park in the tiny parking lot. Rustic bathrooms, hot showers, Slow Free WIFI.

Unfortunately we noticed the next day that we were cheated regarding the price

While all the other campers paid 4,000 chil. Pesos / person there was a spontaneous increase of 25% for us!

January 1st, 2012 Club Andino

emergency solution, because we didn't find anything else. In several places we were sent away because camping was not possible, or the site was occupied (Hotel Independencia). In the Club Andino we were finally allowed to park for one night in the parking lot. At night, the entrance was closed, so we stayed safe and quiet.

In Punta Arenas there is a free trade zone (S 53.13371 W 70.87638). Good prices for Nescafe and German chocolate. If necessary, also a possibility to buy new tires. From here the ferry runs (S 53.12170 W 70.86792) once daily (except Mondays) across the Strait of Magellan to Porvenir (34,900 chil. Peso / car incl. Driver, 5.500 chil. Pesos / additional person).

January 1st, 2012 Reserva Nacional Laguna Parrillar

Very campsite right on the lake. Clean toilets. Small trail.

Since we did not need shelter with the RV, we did not have to pay the extra fee for the site (12,000 chil. Pesos), only the parking fee of 1,500 pesos / person.

January 1st, 2012 Chabunco Park Camping Area (West)

A large forest and coastal area north of Punta Arenas with dozens of sites. No facilities. Because of the airport right next door it can get loud, otherwise very quiet at night.

January 1st, 2012 Free camping on the beach Bahía Inútil

One of the very few possibilities to pull out on a small gravel road. The track goes through a gate on a private property. We parked in front of the gate next to the track. Visible from the street from one direction only. Magnificent views of the fjord and the opposite snow-capped mountains.

Visit of a small colony of king penguins in the "Parque Ping?ino Rey" at S 53.46092 W 69.30595. Admission: 12,000 chil pesos / person..

January 1st, 2012 Camping La Pista del Andino

Very slow Free WIFI, lounge, friendly owners. There is also laundry service (4 kg, washing and drying, 50 arg. Pesos)

The campsite is probably "the" address for the annual Christmas and New Year Meeting of the Pan-American Overlanders.

January 1st, 2012 Free Rio Pipo

Another amazing campsite in the National Park. Because of the river wet-cold at night. Pit toilets.

January 1st, 2012 Hosteria Salango, Islamar

A better view is hardly possible. Located south of the village Salango up on a peninsula. Clean and nice toilet at the restaurant, cold water shower in an iron ton. Free WIFI (not always available). Fantastic common area at the Mirador with a 270 degree view of the two long sandy beaches and offshore islands. Small climbing park. Direct access to the beach. 10 minutes walk on the beach to the village.

Good starting point for whale watching trip. We booked a trip for 6 people at the restaurant "Pelicano" and paid 15$ / person for 1.5 hours. Really recommended.

January 1st, 2012 Restaurant Sabor Bamboo "Beim Mayer"

The East Berlin Original "Mayer" runs a restaurant / pub at the end of the beach. You can park your car at the side of the road and camp there or rent Cabana. We were allowed to use the toilet and cold shower of Cabana. At Mayer's, there is a real yummy pizza and entertainment ("Vaste de wat ick mene, oda?")

January 1st, 2012 Cabañas Irunia

Fantastic campground under coconut trees directly at the long sandy beach. Toilets and cold showers. We have been the first guests for the very nice owner Teresa. The small area is only accessible at low tide, because you have to drive north along the beach about a mile from Mompiche. Since the spot is limited in space it is only suitable for vehicles up to six meters length.

You should not miss dinner with Teresa. Fresh seafood, cooked to perfection - just a dream !!! (10 US $ / person)

(4 US $ / person)

January 1st, 2012 Cabañas Yanuncay

The camping area is a romantic mixture of a farm, a park and a dump with also cabanas on big grassy fields with trees. Beautiful bathrooms with hot showers in one of the cabanas (if they are not rented). Fresh and waste water. Free WIFI. Too expensive - a fair price for Camping would be US $ 10.

In 30 minutes you can walk to the historic center of Cuenca. The Lavandaria Arco Iris is a 600 meters walk from the campsite (S 79.02529 2.90359 W).

(Originally $ 15 / day, but after hearing 25 US $ / 2 days)
