July 8th, 2019 Altos Eco Farm

This is a great place to stay out in the countryside (but not that far from Colonia de Sacramento) run by an Australian couple (Kym and Matt) with nice big rooms, breakfast included, heating/AirCon, plenty of parking for ANY vehicle, a big, well equipped kitchen, a large seating area, pool table, games room, small basic gym, fire place in communal area, parilla area, swings and play house for kids, football pitch, seasonal swimming pool, farm animals, a cute kitten (Explorer) and puppy (Tank) and beautiful surroundings.

Rooms for rent (approx 550 UYU pesos per person, per night) including breakfast and private bathroom. Unsure re: camping and staying in vehicles...contact to discuss.

Meals available for $8pp (USD).

July 3rd, 2019 Nico's House

Nico rents out the top floor of his house and we found this place on AirBnB, however it's easier to go directly through Nico.

On Airbnb we paid approximately $27 USD a night for 2 people due to a cleaning fee and service fee but directly (we extended our stay) it was more like $21 USD. There is street parking (It's a very quiet area) however if you have a motorcycle, you can discuss this with Nico as he has a garage which he can fit them in. He fitted in both our loaded DR650's.

The middle floor of his house has the kitchen and also is his Alpinestars shop. He will also give you a shelf in the fridge and there is a separate freezer. There's 4 gas hobs which work well and an oven plus pots, pans, cutlery and crockery.

Upstairs you have to yourself and it includes a terrace, two bedrooms (1 twin and 1 double) plus a bathroom with hot shower. There is some damp in the double room but it didn't cause us a problem and it didn't smell of damp. There is also a gas heater. The location is excellent, close to the sea and there's a path you can walk along next to the shoreline. There's a big, nice supermarket 4 blocks away and you can also get a bus into Montevideo centre not too far from there.

This is a great, chilled and well priced place to stay close to Montevideo. Nico and Hernan (his house mate) are great hosts.

June 27th, 2019 Posada dos Palmas

Nice place. Street parking (very quiet, apparently safe village). Motorcycles can be parked inside behind the gate. We booked directly and it was 800 URU pesos for 2 people in a large double room with private bathroom. Room 1 was really lovely for the price. Basic breakfast included. Plenty of blankets. Fireplace in common area. Very cold in winter and no heating other than fire place. Clean. Kitchen available. Seating area upstairs and downstairs. Short walk from shops and beach. Ignore maps.me and booking.com locations as they are wrong.

June 27th, 2019 Pousada do Mar

Nice place for the money. Pousada Martin on Booking.com but name now changed. Approximately 100 Reais a night for 2 people in an apartment. Hot shower, well equipped kitchen, lovely owners. 2 blocks from supermarket. Right near the entrance to the beach and beach road. Longest beach in the world! Panaderia across the road. Unsure of width of the gate but no height limit. Space outside to park if vehicle too wide.

June 22nd, 2019 Parada Beach Apart Hotel

We paid 80 Reais per night for 2 people in a 1 bedroom apartment via booking.com. Parking for many types of vehicle as large entrance with no height limit, opposite hotel in a field. Guy sleeps in a tent there and watches the parking. We parked 4 nights with no issues. Apartment 302 excellent, 101 not so good. I would recommend not having a place on the gròund floor (apartments starting in 1) as poor air circulation, less light and a bit damp smell. Other floors much better. Includes good buffet breakfast at their beachfront restaurant 1 block away. Close to lots of amenities and beach.

June 22nd, 2019 Pousada Itapeva

A good place to stay if you want a quiet location with secure parking and a room with private bathroom for a reasonable price. 90 Reais on booking.com for a room for 2 people per night. Good hot shower, comfy bed, clean room and large shared kitchen. Buffet Breakfast included. 4 blocks from the beach, supermarket 2km away, some restaurants in the neighbourhood but we didn't try any as we cooked. They can also order take away food for you.

June 16th, 2019 Flores De Bombinhas

Private apartment style hostel with gated parking area and includes breakfast which is brought on a tray in the morning. Comfortable and clean. Cooker, fridge, pots, pans, cutlery and crockery in the apartment. Air con in the bedroom. Double bed and bunk beds. Private bathroom with electric shower, hot. Lovely family own the place and the husband speaks good English. We paid 92 Reais via booking.com which was cheaper than the standard rate. Cash only (card machine doesn't work currently). Good WiFi. Supermarket within walking distance. Beach close. No height restriction but if any issues quiet street parking also available.

June 8th, 2019 Pousada Maria Helena

Double room (2 people) 80 Reais although 68 on Booking.com. Parking in internal courtyard so height restriction (trucks and roof top tents won't fit), but street parking also available. Clean rooms with cooking facilities, private bathroom with electric shower. Area to wash clothes outside. No breakfast available but plenty of options close by. Very short walk to the beaches and Christ statue. Super friendly staff. WiFi reasonable. Beautiful, quiet area off season with huge long beaches.

June 7th, 2019 Ferry

3.60 per motorbike. Ticket booth is on road to ferry so easy. If on a bike they are quite happy for you to drive down the right side of the road and wait in front of the lorries/cars as the bikes all squeeze on besides the cars in the centre of the ferry in the shade. Just don't sit in the far right lane as it's for through traffic. Nice easy crossing. Regular ferries.

June 5th, 2019 Hospedajem Solar de Maria

Great little place to stay with nice, clean rooms. We paid $R 100 for a double room (2 people) with shared bathroom including parking and breakfast. It's in a quiet location near the river and the staff are super friendly and accommodating. I believe there is additional parking available but they put our bikes in their parking space next to the hostal with a closed gate etc. Street parking also available. Not ideal for big rigs. WiFi reasonable. Use of kitchen costs an additional $R 10 per day. Breakfast 8-10am, check out 11am. Check in 1pm onwards. More expensive on Booking.com. We contacted them via Google Business messenger on Google search and the price was much better with no additional parking fee. The town is really lovely and tranquil with a great view of the surrounding mountains.

June 4th, 2019 Hotel do Largo

Basic hotel. Feels like it was maybe a love hotel at some point. Small but functioning rooms. Private bathroom. Hot water. Includes basic breakfast. 90 $R if you book on booking.com or 100 $R if you just turn up. Portuguese only spoken. Friendly staff. Close to centre but on quiet street so no real traffic noise. Opposite mosque.
Lots of people walking around in the evening, felt quite safe. Many food options close and supermarket in main square. A cheapish option compared to most others. A little cold on a cold June evening as no heating and our room had slight draft through window. Appears no air con either. ? fan available in summer.
Secure parking although height limit so only cars and 4x4s without roof top tent will likely fit. Kitchen with water filter, sink and microwave however no cooker etc so basics only.

June 4th, 2019 Royal Trip Hotel

Hotel with clean rooms and secure parking lot. 120 Reais for a double room, 2 people including a very good buffet breakfast with fruits, scrambled egg, sausage in a tomato sauce, ability to make cheese and ham toasty, fresh orange juice, yoghurt, coffee etc. A bit more than what we would usually pay but comfortable, secure and plenty of hot water. If you continue to Prudentopolis I believe there are much more camping options available.
Staff spoke Portuguese, some Spanish and one spoke some English.

June 4th, 2019 Salto Sete

Huge waterfall after about a 2km trek, not for the feint hearted. Very steep in places and if you want to get to the top of the waterfall you have to cross a river so we couldn't as we were in full bike gear. We walked to the bottom and it was really beautiful. Slippery and lots of spray so you get soaked but it's pretty cool. I think they also have cabins to stay in but we didn't ask however you could visit the website www.saltosete.com.br 10 Reais pp entry for waterfall. Access to waterfall 9am to 5pm. Allow at least a good 1.5 to 2 hours to visit.

May 25th, 2019 Manga Rosa Hostel

This is a great hostel with a great atmosphere. The guy who runs it (Joe) is keen to meet other travellers and is happy for people to camp also. Dorms are 25 Real pp, camping is 20 Real pp and the private room with private bathroom is 107 Real a night. Secure parking available. Often he has evenings where he cooks and it's very cheap if you want to have some (e.g. Brazilian beef stew 10 R pp). Water is potable. Great atmosphere, clean, good facilities, safe area and he speaks good English also. He can give you some good tips about places to visit in the area like the Buddha temple approximately 5km north of here and the Itaipu Dam, further north again. Uber works well here. Highly recommended.

May 25th, 2019 Money exchange - Supermarket

Please note the supermarket with the exchange is in Makro on the corner. -25.51034, -54.57544 (I hope I have changed them). The supermarket pinned does not have a Cambio. Good exchange rate compared to Cambio in Puerto Iguazu.

May 25th, 2019 Argentina / Brasil Border

Very easy exit from Argentina. They direct you where to go and you get stamped out at a drive through booth. Aduana is a little after by about 100m. It would have been quicker but the Aduana guy liked to chat. Also he was adamant we could keep the TIP as we would be re-entering Argentina in about 8 weeks before the expiry however I asked him to cancel it just in case there was an issue trying to re-enter at a later date from Uruguay to Argentina. Maybe there would be no issue and it would save time but I personally didn't want to take the chance.

May 20th, 2019 Ferry to Argentina

Super easy border crossing. We arrived at 10.30am on a Monday and we were the only ones there. You buy your ferry tickets first and we paid 20,000 PYG per bike so we paid a total of 40,000 for 2 bikes and 2 riders. Aduana guy took our TIPs for Paraguay and quick stamp out at Migracion. The ferry took just us two and one other motorbike across to Argentina. Very tranquil crossing and good view of all three country monuments. Once across the other side Aduana and Migracion was also very easy and quick. Lovely staff. There's also a cafe on the Argentina side. Highly recommended border crossing from Paraguay to Argentina.

May 20th, 2019 Hito tres feonteras

Here you have the flag statues with 3 flag poles for each of the 'tres fronteras' countries and also the Argentina monument. You can also see over the river to the Brazil monument and the Paraguay monument. All free to get to. Lots of little stalls around. Worth a visit or a quick drive by especially on a nice day.

May 20th, 2019 Tierra Viva

Great place to stay. 800 pesos for 2 people in a matrimonial room. No breakfast but there's a really nice, well equipped, clean kitchen available to use. Swimming pool, outdoor seating area, parking suitable for motorbikes and 4x4's but big vehicles won't fit although you could park outside on the quiet street. The room has a private bathroom with hot water (tap and shower) plus air con. Very nice manager and he sorted a taxi for us to Iguazu and gave some good advice. Very chilled, well kept, clean. Highly recommended for the price.

May 19th, 2019 Saltos de Ñacunday

Beautiful waterfall especially with the rainbow! Loud and powerful. The 2km track from the Ranger station is a bit muddy and slippery on a motorbike but doable. If the last 200m is very wet it may be a challenge to get back up but there's places to pull over before if needed. Well worth a visit! Free as far as we could tell.
Also, the roads to and from here for at least about 30-40km are hard packed mud in the dry and I would imagine quite slippery if raining a lot.

May 19th, 2019 Hotel Casagrande

Hotel with private rooms and secure, covered parking.
Matrimonial room with private bathroom, hot shower, Air-con is 130,000 PYG per night. Includes parking and good breakfast (fresh juice, coffee, fresh fruit, croissants, bread, ham and cheese plus a toastie maker for DIY toasties). Bed comfortable. Clean hotel, seating area on ground floor and 1st floor. Parking will fit cars, bikes and 4x4 without rooftop tent due to low entry height. Non secure parking available at the front of the hotel although I'm unsure how safe the area is for parking. Friendly staff. Shops nearby. They will also order food for you and have menus at reception. Lovely staff. We stopped here on a Sunday to wait for the ferry crossing on Monday and it was a short ride with little traffic for a city.

Burger joint next door and big gas station across road that has some hot food and lots of other stuff. Comfortable and clean enough. No laundry service available, or at least not on weekends.

May 16th, 2019 2CV-tours.de

Awesome place. Walter is really great and has a really interesting history of travel in his Citroen 2CV and he's off again next week. He helped us find oil for the bikes among other things and we shared many a wine. We laid 80,000 per night for the room he has with private bathroom and hot shower. Very comfortable. There's a panaderia opposite and about 5 blocks away there's a huge supermarket with ATM. Highly recommended. Great workshop available to.

May 13th, 2019 Ecotur Laguna Blanca

Cabanas are 150,000 for 2 people per night. No cooking facilities however there is a fridge and sink. Private bathroom with electric shower. strong smell of drains. From the road there is 3km of sand / mud road but no issues in the dry. There are a couple of shops in Santa Barbara to buy food, drink, BBQ materials etc. Very tranquil on a weekday off season. WiFi very poor to non functioning but not required. Very friendly owner.

May 12th, 2019 Residencia Leones de Castilla

Nice hostel with secure parking (limited and first come first serve, so if you get there late in the day you will have to park on the street outside). Room for 4 cars and several motorbikes. Not suitable for big rigs or tall vehicles but these could park on street outside (not a through road). Normal car fine. Very clean rooms, private bathroom with hot showers and large shower head. Comfy bed, AC and fan, very quiet, a few cats around, Spanish restaurant next door, petrol station close by does a buffet and also fast food plus a shop. Dentist next door, seafood restaurant (Puerto Pira), photocopy shop diagonally adjacent as well as camping shop. We paid 155,000 for the room (2 people) on booking.com. I believe it's 170,000 normally. Friendly staff.

FYI: these coordinates are for the parking which is off the main road. You turn off the main road onto a side street and then the first turning on your right (coming from the main road). Go to the end and there's the car park with a green sliding door.

May 12th, 2019 Hotel Centro

A basic option if you need somewhere to stay. 50,000 PYG for a matrimonial or 80,000 for a twin. Double beds are very small so a twin room may be better if you are 2 people. Private bathroom, electric shower (hot), WiFi that works, parking (in compound but no gate). Clean. Sheet on bed but no top sheet. Blanket in cupboard. Air con. Friendly owner. TV. Basic shop available. A little noisy from around 6.30am.

May 7th, 2019 Hotel Corona Suites

This place is excellent value. It's a very clean hotel st back off the main road opposite a fuel station. We paid 110,000 PYG (about £13.50) for 2 people in a matrimonial room. This included free parking (ample room behind the building in their car park), breakfast, private bathroom with hot water and a mini bar (additional cost). They have a menu of food you can order from reception. WiFi was good and available throughout. Comfy bed. Spotlessly clean. Swimming pool that looked clean. Amazing value for the money.

May 5th, 2019 Lotus Hostel

Nice hostel in Encarnation with secure parking for a couple of motorbikes (narrow entrance) and outdoor parking for other vehicles (off street but not secure). Big rigs could park on the street maybe. We paid 180,000 PYG for a matrimonial room with private bathroom, air con, breakfast included. Close to the supermarket. Clean and comfortable.
