Blue Van Go Check-Ins

Date Place Comment
August 4th, 2018 Restaurant Bella vista grill

Its a buffet where you pay by the kilo. Spent 50000 for two for lunch.

July 23rd, 2018 Ecotur Laguna Blanca

We stayed for one night for 50,000G for two people and van. It was pretty but deserted except for another overlander. Some locals were there until about sunset. The flies and bugs were really bad during the day. Lots of firewood around. WiFi is ok.

July 21st, 2018 Hotel Frances

Parking in the hotel's secure lot (large and gated). We slept in our van and they opened a room so we could use bathroom, shower, and bidet ;). WiFi is open. 50,000 G for two people and van.
There is a pool here too but not sure if we could use it and it was cold anyway.

July 20th, 2018 Mishin

Tasty Chinese, very good quality. Ordered a combo, spring rolls, and soup (medium was huge). Heard the buffet is excellent but not available when we there.

July 18th, 2018 COPETROL

Was able to fill up and pay using credit card (visa) here

July 18th, 2018 ATM - first one when arriving from Bolivia

Did not work for us using two USA cards......

July 18th, 2018 Border Bolivia-Paraguay

From Bolivia to Paraguay...
handed in vehicle permit and had short vehicle inspection before guy opened gate. Drove to next parking area in Paraguay. Bolivia immigration is there and stamped our passports. In another cubicle was Paraguay immigration. Vehicle permit filled out by next guy.
When driving out they did a very thorough inspection, complete with poking a metal rod into the door panels.

There is a gas pump just beyond the border but didn't see anyone there and not sure if gas or diesel. La Patria was out of gas.

July 18th, 2018 Road-Information

From the border to La Patria is fantastic, new asphalt. From La Patria to Mariscal there are three distinct very bad sections each around 8-10km. We're talking very large pot holes everywhere with no good path through. Very dusty as well. Saw 2 bicyclists too. Parallel to the road maybe 100 m off is a dirt road that might be smoother.

July 18th, 2018 Bush camp

Parked in front of the restaurant/store for the night and slept in our van. We used the toilet behind the store in the evening but don't think it's open all night.

July 18th, 2018 Gasur and Comercial La Patria

Gas station (Gasur) was out of gas, directed us next door. This comercial store sold us 8 liters for 80000 G. Oy!

July 17th, 2018 La Cúpula Hostel & Camping

A very pleasant place to stay. Came for one night, stayed for two. Shared kitchen got a little dirty but bathrooms were kept clean and there's great outdoor seating areas. Huge area to park as well. WiFi very strong and fast all over the yard. Breakfast was decent though not extravagant. It was about a 30 minute walk to downtown. 35 b per person with breakfast. We took a wine tour with Viva tours and that was good too.
The bus 7 stops right outside and costs 1.8 b and will take you right downtown.

July 17th, 2018 Ruta 11

There is a gate roughly around this spot that may be closed during the hours posted. We happened to pass it around 11:30 on Tuesday and it was open. No one pulled us over or stopped us later either. It took us about 5-6 hours from Tarija to Villamontes. The road is mostly pretty good, surprisingly so. Past Villamontes to Puerto Sucre near the border with Paraguay there is maybe 20 km of gravel road with pretty deep tracks that having good clearance would be best but not necessary.

July 17th, 2018 Toll Peaje

8 bob toll going east. No police interaction

July 16th, 2018 Verde que te quiero

Great lunch buffet, includes juice and coffee/tea. 25 bob

July 15th, 2018 Hotel Butch Kassidy parking

Nice place to camp. Slept in van in small lot in back. Shower was weird...they opened a room upstairs that looked like someone lived in. The shower flooded the room a bit but they didn't seem to mind... sounds like it's designed that way? Cost 60 Bob for two. Breakfast was 15 bob extra each but pretty good...cereal, bread, donuts, pancakes, etc.

July 15th, 2018 Cascada Orgullosamente

Restaurant for almuerzo. Has licuados too. 15 Bob for plate, 5 Bob for licuado mixto. Yum!

July 14th, 2018 Petrol stations

Both stations refused to sell fuel in Jerry cans. Told them it was for a generator but that didn't matter. The southern most one wanted a copy of carnet. May try again when it's dark.

July 14th, 2018 Tacuru restaurant bar

The pizza was good and coca beer fine. Service was pretty bad though and after using the toilet I asked for some soap and she refused. I asked for alcohol gel and said they didn't have any. I asked what they used in the kitchen to clean hands and she said dish soap, so I asked for that. After some reluctance and consulting with the ladies in the kitchen she agreed to give me some soap. Then no water in the bathroom...so she has to fill a bottle and helped me wash my hands. Ridiculous experience for a restaurant that charges tourist prices and had only tourist patrons.

July 14th, 2018 Road construction rn21

No river crossings with water for us though sometimes a little difficult finding the way. There is a toll stop for 10bob

July 14th, 2018 Great food with some wifi

Had the mixto tacos and the orange chicken. Tacos pretty good and filling (3), orange chicken a bit of a disappointment but tasty. The WiFi is good.

July 14th, 2018 Hotel Joya Andina

We were traveling 4 up coming into Uyuni before tour starting the next morning. Decent shower, water only hot from 7-10 am/pm. Not great pressure for non electric. No heat. WiFi is pretty good though in rooms 7 and 8. Breakfast is fine and included. Paid 200 b for double room including parking. 180 b without parking. Stayed here after our tour as well.

July 13th, 2018 Salty Desert Aventours

Great tour agency, had a nice time on our 3 day tour. Same price as others for basically same tour. William wàs our driver/guide...took good care of us. A couple got sick on the trip and he helped them out a lot so they enjoyed it still. Decent food. Were top ranked on trip advisor when we went.

July 10th, 2018 ONKEL.INN WAGON SLEEPBOX UYUNI

Didnt stay but checked it out and wanted to update with some prices. They quoted in USD. A two person pod (er, bunk beds) room with shared bathrooms was $28. A queen bed room with private bath was $60 but because the sink didn't work (at this time) he reduced to $40. Was told the wifi was only good enough for email, WhatsApp, etc. Very clean and modern looking.

July 7th, 2018 hostal los angeles

Stayed in our van in their secure lot for 30B pp. Shower was hot! Nice people, at least 5 dogs and a few cats.

July 6th, 2018 Refugio Jacha Inti

It was fine, small. Toucans and monkeys nice to see. Otherwise you have a few geese, some tortoises, a couple horses, and some house cats. Bathrooms were dirty. 20 B pp

July 5th, 2018 ES El Torno

Filled up for local price. A police truck was filling up a couple pumps over when we pulled up. The girl seemed to be stalling with some questions until they left...then she started filling without issue.

July 3rd, 2018 El Chiquitano Gasstation

we got gas in Jerry can for 3.74. refused to put directly in tank after driving up. will refill cans

July 3rd, 2018 Hotel Baires

Allowed us to sleep in our van in their secure lot and use the shared bathrooms (with shower). 50 B for the two of us, includes breakfast!

July 2nd, 2018 Hotel Villa Chiquitana

Real nice place to camp. Restaurant was good for dinner, coffee in the morning is instant. Showers may be solar heated but it's hot anyway. Good wifi near lodge area.

June 30th, 2018 Taller Electronico Santa Cruz

They fixed the power windows (think the motor had vibrated loose from the regulator) for 140 B. Professional enough job.
