April 7th, 2021 Pura Vida

Vegan and vegetarian restaurant located a couple of blocks from the main square.

Good selection of vegan dishes. Tacos, burritos, hamburger, quesadillas. Sadly they had run out of hamburgers on our visit.

The waiter very friendly and made an effort to speak to us in English.

Reasonably priced and free WiFi.

February 9th, 2021 good view and cactus

Beautiful view and good signal. Enough level ish spots for two small vans. Note - you are visible from the road, but it’s a fairly quiet one.

February 8th, 2021 Hotel La Zapoteca

We asked to stay here for the night in our campers after being kicked out of a free spot. Nice lady, charged us 150 pesos per van to camp on the drive and gave us a key to a room for showers and the toilet. WiFi included too. Quiet town.

February 6th, 2021 Volks Tyres, Wheels and Servicing

Fantastic business run by Jamie and his wife Liz. They sourced us new tyres for our kombi but also located some other parts we were looking for very quickly. Recommended a local mechanic who was good too for a major job. Specialises in VW but other cars is fine.

Liz speaks fluent English which is also a bonus. Very friendly, highly recommend. Let us camp outside too by prior arrangement.

January 31st, 2021 La Malinche, all sorts of random spots

We never made it here, so can’t comment on the place if you do. The road is very washed out. You may be able to do it in a standard 2wd, but I would say it looks more like a high clearance 4x4 kind of place. We did a few very very slow kilometres and then decided it wasn’t worth it.

January 31st, 2021 Barbarista Cafe

Nice little coffee shop that also sells cakes. Close to overnight parking spots. Very good WiFi and currently open to dine in.

January 29th, 2021 Amatzcalli Sport Fishing and Camping

Currently open in the week only. Nice clean toilets. Friendly staff. We asked for a hot shower and they provided a big bucket of hot water to use in the shower room. 165peso per van. Firewood available to buy from 50 pesos. 4g signal.

January 25th, 2021 park paradise

Parked here in a convoy of 4 campers. Lovely park bit police presence... However, whilst we were sat at a bench, 2 locals parked next to our campers. 2 had people sleeping in them, but they broke into an unoccupied camper. Thankfully, all they stole was some beer, a hoodie, some trousers and a glove. We disturbed them as we returned to the campers, but didn't realise what was happening until they had left.

January 23rd, 2021 Laguna Alchichica

A lovely spot, we chose to park around the other side away from the buildings. Turned out to be a bad idea as at around 11pm two men in balaclavas knocked on our door wanting money. One pretended he was going on police, when they definitely weren’t. They must have walked around the lake to get to us and been watching. We didn’t feel safe after that so drove around and slept on the other side where this spot is actually marked. Nothing actually happened, but two blokes banging on your camping in balaclavas is disconcerting. The other side was ok, but noisy with trucks and their brakes for a lot of the night.

January 22nd, 2021 Nace el Agua Campsite

We planned to stay on the parking lot as described but it turns out there is a full campground inside the grounds further from the road. Ask in reception.

120p/p. Nice clean toilets, hot showers and firewood available. Lovely flat parking in jungle like garden next to a palapa that has chairs, tables and also several plug sockets you can use. Relaxed, friendly staff who showed us around and didn’t mind when we left.

We had the place to ourselves, and the gardens and spring itself are beautiful too. Very peaceful. Weak phone signal/internet. Says no pets, but our cats weren’t a problem. Dogs may not be allowed.

November 21st, 2020 Nevado de Colima

Made it here in our VW kombi, you do not need 4x4 for the road, but high clearance is recommend. The road is very lumpy/washed out in places and a couple of dusty patches early on which need some speed with 2wd. Camping does not appear to be included anymore, we paid 150pesos for 2 nights. Hiked up to the peak was worth it. Recommend getting here the night before to adjust to the altitude.

November 14th, 2020 Quiet spot above the river

Large flat pull off on the side of the road. Big enough so that you can get away from the road a bit. We spent a very peaceful night here after finding the other local spots to be to close to the road. Road has light traffic in the day and none at night. Cobbled road to get here, but perfectly accessible. No signal at all. River is accessible for water after a few minutes walk down the road.

November 8th, 2020 El Cora Trailhead

Really nice spot for a few campers right by the river. Also the start of Cora Waterfall Trailhead which is worth doing (details on AllTrails). Very quiet, not too buggy considering it’s by the river. Friendly locals.
Access is quite narrow, steep cobbled road and dirt track. Maybe unsuitable for bigger rigs but fine for 2wd. Good Telcel signal.

June 19th, 2020 Rancho Pacifico Baja

Beautiful spot out in the desert. We have stayed here for over a month and still enjoy the quiet nights and the massive variety of wildlife around us. We have seen everything from glow in the dark scorpions and tarantulas to hummingbirds and huge lizards. It’s also nice to have the luxury of complete silence at night here in Baja!

Dane and Sabrina have been fantastic hosts to us, and have put a lot of effort into the place. There are plans to add showers and upgrade the campsite in the immediate future. Its nice to have a spacious area to camp and some privacy too. A nice change from the beach if you are looking for some hiking into the mountains and a change of scenery.

You should definitely try their homemade bread and kombucha when you visit!

February 23rd, 2020 Mini market

A lot bigger and better than it looks from the outside! Cash only.

February 20th, 2020 Agua Purificada

Water point. Open 8-1 and 3-6. Didn’t use it so not sure of price.

February 20th, 2020 La Casa Del Cylista

Welcoming, but wanted to charge us $200 to park our vw van on the street outside. Seemed very expensive for a poor location, despite showers, WiFi etc. Ended up staying at Los Petates instead. Probably much better deal if are on a bike.

February 19th, 2020 Juanita’s

Awesome fish tacos for $120mpx and nice fresh lemonade. WiFi available but very very slow.

February 19th, 2020 Juanita’s

Awesome tacos and nice fresh lemonade. Reasonable price, $120mpx for 4 fish tacos.

February 19th, 2020 Minimarket

Basic supplies. Cheap beer. Sign on the hulking advertising WiFi but we didn’t use it so can’t comment on how good it is.

January 27th, 2020 Pull out on Pine Creek Road

Big pull out by the side of the road. Nice views, not too windy. Road is mostly good with the occasional big pothole, avoidable but keep an eye out. Very quiet.

January 26th, 2020 Amboy Crater BLM, Ca

A good spot for the night. Pit toilets were well kept, and the hike to the crater is well worth it. We found the trains quite loud at night. Met the BLM guy in the morning who came to maintain the area, wasn’t bothered at all that we had stayed. Asked if we wanted to stay longer! Sign says no campfires.

January 26th, 2020 The Springs at Borrego Springs golf and resort

Great place to stop off and use facilities. You get access to water, WiFi showers, pool, laundry etc all for $10. Make sure you ask about the price as it wasn’t offered and is for first time customers for one night only. Relatively quiet, mainly dogs barking. If you fill in the survey you get $10 of next visit too.
