Description

An amazing place to stay! Campground in natural reserve of Itaipu dam. All services possible... Water, electricity, wifi (to the desk), BBQ grill, water on site, shade, hot shower and toilets. Little tour with horses, guided hikes. You have to ask for permission to go to the visitor center (but we didn't and it was finally ok) of the dam, but EVERYTHING IS FREE. You can visit the Itaipu dam (night and day tour and both are nice to do) and the zoo with all local fauna. Again everything is FREE and without reservation. Can be a bit busy on the weekend but plenty of space.

all the reviews are true! as described. beautifull place but full of " things you do not want" and very noisy with all kind of workers. this morning a loud machine witch blows the few leaves away ....so we can not talk anymore, a tractor etc. bathroom looks loveley but a lot is broken or do not work. We are the only ones and left after one night.

Report Check-In

Stayed 2 nights. Flat spots on grass amidst a forest. Amazing nature. We saw the mini deers on the road. Very quiet, only sounds of the jungle. Quietest place of whole Paraguay where we stayed! No noisy locals with loud music for once. Nice wind near the lake. Toilet building relatively clean but showers had very bad pressure. No signal.

The process of getting the permit was very inefficient and bureaucratic and took almost an hour. At 5.30 AM one of us was not feeling well and went to get fresh air, then a guard on a bicycle came to tell that it’s forbidden to walk around without t-shirt…. Come on.. we were the only people there and the heat is tough on us as foreigners.
Also we parked where the guard pointed us (only working electrical pole), next morning another guard says we have to move for the tourist train. There was so much space easily 4 trucks side-by-side could pass by us, but no, we were in in way and had to move. He came back 3 times to rush us.
Unnecessary and bit exhausting. Other than that, nice place.

Report Check-In

Yes, it's a nice place. And there is also electricity and warm showers. But I don't think half of the people who write reviews here have understood why there are so many rules here. Attention!!! There are biting monkeys and poisonous snakes here. We walked into the forest and a guard came running to us and told us what dangerous animals are here.

Report Check-In

Mixed experience. If you are trying to get the most out of everything and not pay a cent, yes this is a perfect place. Dozens of workers here cleaning and driving around controlling where you are going (example: it is forbidden to touch the water), but we were the only ones. Leaf blower from 8.30 in the morning, tractors deiving around, absolutely not quite and relaxing and certainly no fauna with all that noise. It was very weird honestly. Yes it is free, but i dont mind paying for something I enjoy more.

Report Check-In

crazy spot! full of monkies birds and coaties.

As we were saterday, nobody could guve us the camp-permission, niether in the medio-ambiente centre neither at the dam reception. So we decide to visit the reserve and to ask there. Super friendly guards, they phoned to their chief and recieve the permission.

They also book us the light show in the evening but one advice: enjoy the spot here and dont waste your evening with this joke: 3 min of just "lightning", no show or light-play.

Report Check-In

Tried to come here with motorbikes but at the registration they told us motorbikes and bicycles are not allowed because it is a gravel road that leads there (we don't know what's the problem).

Report Check-In

Still the same, free, but now a bit tricky to have the permissions, look at my message at the entry gate.

Report Check-In

closed for Pandemia , hopefully they will open it sometime

Report Check-In

We, with two campers, were the only once camping. Registration went a little difficult (they couldn't find the form) but the whole staff was extremely friendly and made sure we had everything we needed: electric, water, wifi, grill, bathrooms and hot showers. Yes, they restricted access to the hiking trails with word that it was too dangerous, but who's complaining when you have this beauty place to camp in- for free?
We loved it, and stayed three days.

Report Check-In

We stayed 3 nights and had an excellent time. Yes, your not allowed to take the trails into the forest but you can certainly walk on the shoreline.
Free camping, WiFi and electricity. Hot showers. Mango and avacado trees. What's not to like about this place.

Report Check-In

We stayed several days. It is very quiet after 4 pm. We saw several monkeys and little wild hogs next to our RV.
And yes there are rules, just don't get caught breaking them.
We recommend a stay after, before visiting the dam.

Report Check-In

It‘s a really nice and calm place - ok, calm at night. During the day, they are school classes around and of course, some are a bit noisy. But after 5pm it‘s quiet, only birds, monkeys and coatis. We asked the guard, why we mustn‘t leave the camp ground after 5pm and he explained us, that there are also pumas and other animals that shouldn‘t be disturbed and are potentially dangerous. The bathrooms are not really great, showers semm only to work in the women‘s bathroom. They are a lot of fireplaces, electricity on site and wifi all over the place. We enjoyed it and probebly come back in the next couple of days.

Report Check-In

We stayed here 2 nights and we loved it !
The place is free you just have to come directly at the entrance to ask for the permit (with a van or camp). Apparently they also have free accomodation by have to book in advance.
It's 7 km of easy dirt road.
Camping place is very nice, shower are great.
Wifi at the reception.

Employees are absolutely lovely and talk to us all the time. Even player soccer with them.

We walk everywhere around without problem.
The free tours they propose are like 15 min and not worth it, but the place is really nice.

Report Check-In

I'm sorry, I can not fully agree with my pre-reviewer.
Yes, it is completely free of charge. After registration (possible at the entrance of the park), you can camp, hot shower, be guided horse riding (in a small circle), do a tour with a tractor (in the trailer) or do a tour in a horse coach. Barbecue and electricity is also available (maybe some more gratis stuff). Sounds good!?
But there are many rules here. It´s unfortunately totally impossible for us to stay longer than a day and a night! You are not allowed to walk outside the scope of the security! Constantly, security comes with further regulations. I can´t recommend this place. We don't expect much, but this one is unbeleivable. We are on the road for seven month now, this is unbelievable crap. Its not free - you pay with your freedom in the time of being here.

We are normal people with a 5 year old child. We were neither loud nor negative conspicuous. Probably because we were the only ones and the employees were boring, they just focused on us.

Report Check-In

It is open and beautiful like others described. We got the permission at the entrance of Tati Yupi but they said that normally you'd have to go to the itaipu dam visitor center in order to get the permission.

Report Check-In

Ah, waste of time. It was closed on Sunday, I mean the office was closed, so we could not get the permit. Then on the next day, Monday it was closed as well - the whole camp was closed. Too bad.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

We spent 3 nights and 2 days in this place.
It was really nice. You have to complete the permit at the main office at the entrance and enjoy during 2 or 3 days : place to camp, electricity at sites, hot showers, toilets, WiFi at the office, place for sports, horse riding, little tour in car in the park... and much more !
Very quiet, safety (guards at the entrance 24/24) all staff is very very friendly.
But caution with the mud in the road if it’s a rainy day !

Report Check-In

We really liked it here. Sunday was pretty crowded, but otherwise we had the huge space almost to ourselves. Children‘s paradise, even horsebackriding and ziplining. I recommend to hike the short forest trails, although it technically is against the rules. We stayed three days.

Report Check-In

Great campground and lots of friendly people around that produced our permit on the spot, that watched over us 24/7.

Bring your own food and enjoy the solitude (off season) for a day or two.

Report Check-In

Really great deal : went to the office to get the free permit.
After 7km road a great reserve to clean conscience around the dam...
Nice toilets and hot shower; nice meadow with electricity and parrilas. Free tour with horses car in the forest... haven’t seen animals during.
But saw 2 tatoos and many many coatis and monos.
Highly recommand this peacefull place

Report Check-In

We got the permit at the park entrance and could camp for free. Huge area for camping. Facilities are nice and clean.

Report Check-In

You still need a permit to enter the oark.the office to get the permit is behind the entrance to the park.very important to be there before 16.00o clock, if the office is close it is not easy to go in to the parc.still everything free and nice.the told us we can stay for a week.a great place with animals to see

Report Check-In

We are very disappointed. We are not allowed to go during weekend. No bicycles allowed and you MUST have a permission (near the guarani museum)

Report Check-In

If there is too much rain, the Refugio is closed, like in these days

Report Check-In

I arrived at 9pm due to long aduana procedure and they didn't let me in (had no permit). Went to petrobras 5km north instead.

Report Check-In

Agreed with all bellow. Nice place.

Report Check-In

Very nice and quiet place. Great nature. Everthing good and still free. High recommended.

Report Check-In

The road to the refugio is horrible for a motorcycle in the rain. But nice campsite with good facilities and all for free. You need to get a permit at their office and they told me it's maximum 2 or 3 nights.

Report Check-In

great place. don't rely on the internet for anything more than a quick email check, but otherwise these are excellent facilities. brilliant playground for kids. bit muddy in the rainy season, but well worth the effort of getting the free pass from the office down the road.

Report Check-In

Nice and quiet. We confirm almost everything what others have written to this Place.

Report Check-In

good and safe place to stay. quiet in offseason but we liked it.
bring your own food. during the day schoolclasses are visiting the camp, so its a bit busy.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Nice place with some animals, lot of birds and butterflies.
Good break between Argentina and Brazil. Life seems much less expensive here than in the neighborhood countries.
Good place to visit the dam.

Report Check-In

Nice place to camp for free but millions of ants around! As for nature we were told everything was closed due to heavy rain last week so we could only walk around the football pitch or take a 10 min tractor ride through the trees where all you see is trees and the flooded forest and 1 old tree that makes you wonder why they cut down loads of habbitat to make a tractor path in order to see one of the only trees they didnt cut down and have a photo with it?!

Report Check-In

A very nice campground, was almost completely empty when we were there (just 1 other overlander). Warm showers, cold potable water (nice touch), microUSB-charging points for mobile devices. Quiet, nice, 24h guarded and completely for free - just don't forget to get the permit at Centro Ambiental first. And bring some food, there is no shop around :)

Report Check-In

yes it's indeed a big and very nice place with nearly all facilities you need. Lots of space to walk around, many birds and butterflies are here. But don't drive to the areal without permit, they don't let you in !! You have to apply for your permit 10 km before, at the Centro Ambiental. Position see comment from Joerg and Simone. Because it's so nice here i recommend you to ask for 2 or 3 days, just in case. Bring everything with you, there is no shop. It's manly a bio reserve. There is nothing to pay for. All around very friendly people ! :-)

Report Check-In

This is a amazing place hier, everything is clean and convince. Bevor you can enter you need a permit. Go to S 25.44464 W 054.63176 to the Centro Ambiental and ask for Larisa the give the paper ( permiso para Tati Yupi
