Antofagasta, Chile - SAG, to prepare for crossing to AR

Just got the Vet Cert and SAG paperwork done in less than 3 hours.

We were going to do it in La Serena and realized we were staying 3 blocks from the SAG office.

Went in and they were very friendly - waited less than 15 minutes to chat with the SAG vet. He reviewed my EU PP and *Peru* Health Cert and at first said it would be done for tomorrow morning, or he could even do it for today.

Then re-read the rules and said I needed a Health Cert from a local Chilean vet.

There was one 3 blocks away and that took ~90 minutes to complete as they were busy with other appointments.

The Chilean vet accepted the de-worming/parasite from 8 days ago so no need for more. I got 3 copies of the Health Cert.

Back to SAG, paid 10,800soles and they completed the process in another 15 minutes. One original and one copy.

They said the original gets handed in at the first crossing, then the back of the copy gets stamped every time we use. It's valid upto 60 days

When I asked they said they're allowed to take upto 3 days from when you pay.

Maybe because my Spanish is good enough to hold a conversation, and/or maybe I was just lucky.

The nearby Wyndham Garden is friendly, no charge for pets (there is a pet deposit), and the small underground parking takes vehicles upto 2.7m.

The office is open from 9am-2pm M-F. Come with the paperwork from the vet (health cert). Make sure all the vaccines and parasite treatments have serial #s and lot #s. For parasite treatments, the vet form must also list the ingredients in them. The vet 3 blocks from here knows what to do. When you arrive they will give you a SAG form that you fill out. Basically all the same info again, onto their form. Then someone will review the paperwork and make sure they have everything. Also bring photo copies of vaccine records that they keep. If all is ok, you then pay 10720clp to the office on the first floor. Once this is paid, they will create the paperwork. It can take up to 3 days, but I suggest being there at 9am and they did it while we waited, about 90 minutes. The timing on the paperwork is a bit confusing as it seems valid for 60 days, but I think you need to cross into Argentina within 10 days of getting this paperwork.

Came here at 9am with updated documents from a Chilean vet first. She gave me the documents in one hour. Charged me 10500 for two dogs. Now important to see if you have documents from Bolivia which are less than 15 days old you don’t need a vet visit in Chile. The SAG document is valid for 60 days to enter and exit between Chile and Argentina only. You need to show your original rabies and parasite documents at all time. Keep copies of all documents for multiple border crossings for 60 days. Attached are the requirements from the office.

they originally said it would take 24 hours. then another agent said same day as long as paperwork is in by 12. It took 3 hours to get.

To leave chile to Argentina with a dog, you need SAG to issue certificado de sanitario. Cost 6300 pesos. Need original rabies certificate plus one photocopy and two original vet health certificates with parasite medication confirmation. Office is close to the vet on ioverlander.
