The current eastern end of the 7am - 5pm road block has moved from old location (-15.38818, -67.1168), to Control Umopar - coordinates have been updated. We drove Yucumo to Coroico in 7.5 hours and there were no lane switches, we drove on the right side the whole way. Road wasn't nearly as bad as we had been expecting, but they are constantly working on it so it's only natural that it's constantly improving. There are now lots of sealed sections, but that's not to say that there aren't plenty of sections with potholes and also narrow windy sections of road so you do have to drive carefully..
Report Check-InAs on the road from Coroico to Caranavi you also have to be aware on the stretch between Caranavi and Yucumo that from time to time you have to swap from right lane driving to left lane driving and back. Only few signs once indicate the change so be careful. We had two close misses as we were not aware of the side change.
Report Check-InThe road is OPEN ☺ The pavement has some holes, but is good to drive all in all. Corte de Carretera is now near Caranavi. But Motobikes can pass.
Report Check-InStill closed as described, however open on Sundays. We passed on a Sunday from Caranavi to Yucumo without any trouble (aside from poor quality of road most of the way).
Report Check-InPolice stopped us here at midnight before we drove on to Rurre - wanted to see papers and passports. Initially all intimidation, but smiles in the end. The new road is amazing, hard to believe after the hideous roadworks!
Report Check-InAs of August 4, 2016 - the road is virtually done, the pavement gorgeous - but it's still closed during the day, no begging helped :) Maybe they are waiting for some politician to officially open, I don't know.
In total, there are still three closed parts of the Coroico-Rurrenabaque route during the day - so plan ahead. We managed to drive the whole stretch from 5PM (when it opened) and arrived to Coroico around 2AM. Roughly the same if you're going the opposite way - if you don't want to stay somewhere for a day waiting for them to open these parts of the road, just drive through the night, it was doable.
The 40kms road stretch to Yucuma is to 99.9 percent sealed but was still closed between 6:00 and 17:00. Completion very soon. East of Yucuma (towards Trinidad) it is a not so good earth road, west of the new 40kms bitumen stretch (towards La Paz) the road is for 100kms in a bad to very bad condition (earth), the remaining bit to La Paz mostly bitumen.
