Something not right?

Description

Wilderness campsites in the Pisgah Ranger District. These are right down the road from the Davidson River Campgrounds which are more formal camp areas. First-come first-serve basis, 14 night maximum. No trash service so pack out your trash. They’re right off the road but most have a fire pit and tables and the road was pretty quiet all night.

i got lucky and found an open spot. 30 feet from the creek on the dirt road and one mile from the main road. Great fishing, great biking. Only one bar of 4g Verizon and it comes and goes. the town is about 3.5 miles away. I ran there this morning. Also, a bear visited my camp this morning. Apparently the guy next to me left a cooler full of food out. Said cooler is no longer full of food! there are 6 designated camping spots in this area. 14 day stay maximum. All on the dirt road, but most of the traffic is bicycles.

I’ve stayed here a few times now when in the Asheville area. Sites are often full but you can get lucky early week. Quiet and nice.

Report Check-In

Quite a few roadside sites with a couple sized for small groups and a few for larger groups. Late arrival no problem, every thing open.

Five pull-off sites before the gates at the Horse Stables (which are closed in winter). Avery Creek Road is gated passed the horse stables - there’s two more camp sites beyond the gate. So good sites available even in winter! Quiet road. I have one bar of Verizon which is enough to send texts. In the morning, ride right out of the campsite for some great mountain biking!

As others have said, first come first serve. I got here pretty late in the day and was still able to get a spot. It’s a nice camping area, and it wasn’t too loud at night.

Report Check-In

Site AC3. Level, fire ring, small trail at back of site leading to flowing creek. Very nice.

Not sure if Covid related, but currently in this national forest you are unable to camp within 1000 ft of the road. Unable to camp here in our van at this time.
