Description

Supposedly best snorkeling around Mulege, weather did not cooperate for us. Camped at the end of the road on a rocky beach. Exposed to the wind which died down at night. Quite and peaceful. Use google satellite to find the track out, it's a dirt road on the left if you are driving down to the mulege lighthouse.

Great spot for a few days. Our big rig did great getting in & out. Just go slow. This is what our 4x4 rigs are made for. Kids played in the water all day. Locals came & got some rocks. No problems.

Amazing. Had the beach to ourselves. I have a 2wd ram promaster and the road in was pretty dicey. Definitely recommend 4wd and high clearance for the route in. Follow gos thru the neighborhood and then sat image to the beach. There’s an upper and lower section. Both were totally available.
Saw dolphins yesterday evening and greeted by a fisherman around 5 this morning.

We came in a different way and did not have to deal with the steep hill at all. I'd recommend people put 26.9073599, -111.9617987 on their Google Maps and follow normal directions to that point. After that point, Google Maps won't guide you, so you need satellite view for the rest, but it's pretty easy.

Don't trust any surface that's damp. There is a section in the North side of this beach that gets water sipping up from underneath and looks like darker/wet sand.. you walk it and it's fine, but if you put a heavy vehicle on it, it becomes very slick and cakes your tires right away.

I'm not sure if this is permanent, but there was a pretty strong smell of sewage while we were here. Not sure if the town may be dumping sewage nearby, have this in mind if getting in the water.

Windy! Use caution and go slow coming down the hill! Use google maps satellite view to come in through the small neighborhood. After the houses end that’s when the first short but steep section starts. There is one more but less steep/tricky. Must go slow. Made it down in my stock F150 towing a Pando 2.0.

I would turn left just before the beach and seek some shelter from the winds in the wide open space you’ll see. 3 bar LTE. There are easier and better spots nearby.

Report Check-In

Followed others advice and used Google Maps on satellite mode to find the route in. There was 1 dicey section but with high clearance and 4WD it was fine.

We had the place to ourselves but unfortunately didn’t get to enjoy they water thanks to crummy weather. Felt very safe and secluded… we checked out the more crowded camping near the lighthouse and chose to take the rough road back here instead. Will be back when it’s warm, sunny & calm! Nice trails going in both directions. Huge pod of dolphins jumping off the point.

Pretty rough descent to get here, but a nice small bay where you can swim. 4WD and rocky. There are better places to camp south of Mulege if you are willing to drive a bit south. Stayed 1 night, met a nice expat out hiking with his dog but no one else bothered us. Felt safe

Report Check-In

we got the device not to go left at the beachside, many cars got stuck, we recommended not to go with big rigs the way, the last 1 km to the beach are small, many bushes, we got it, but it wasnt fun, also mulege has small roads with parked cars and electricity lines not that high, maps me find the way well

Report Check-In

Perfect spot. It seem like a popular spot for ioverlanders (there was 2 other one when we were there). Lovely view! Quiet!

Report Check-In

We loved Mulege so much that we decided to find a spot close to town so we could spend an extra day. This spot was a winner! Close to town, but still felt safe and on-and-off secluded. FYI, this is a well known local spot for fishing, beach walking, snorkeling, and hiking a nearby road, but everyone is very friendly. Good vibes all around.

No recent rain, so no issues getting to the beach from town in a low clearance, 2wd vehicle. Use Google Satellite image to find the road out of town from the top of the hill neighborhood of Loma Azul.

We camped in one of the northern spots on a bank above the bay- up a short, steep hill on the north end of the beach (we needed our 4wd for this section). This gave us some privacy from local folks that use the beach in the morning and evenings.

100% would stay here again.

In addition to my check in, do not follow Google maps once you reach the end of the main road. It tries to take you along the beach.

We used maps.me and took a turning before the end of the road and this was much clearer. It lead us up a dirt track that goes past some houses and towards the beach.

FYI - little firewood to be found at the beach.

Report Check-In

Rocky beach down a dirt track. Really quiet and we had the whole beach to ourselves. We had a small fire and amazing skies over the hills as the sun was setting. We saw trumpet fish and a Ray from the shoreline in the morning. Good spot for the night.

Report Check-In

A beautiful spot with a lot of space to choose from. You can find your way down to the beach, park back on the sand, or drive up one of two hills to look out over the water. We grabbed tacos in town and one of the locals who spoke English drew out directions to get here (even though we didn’t need them) which was so nice! No one was around when we got here, and the only people we saw during our stay were a few guys going out to fish. You can get some cell service (ATT LTE) if you choose the right spot. If you walk along the beach there are a ton of beautiful sea shells to find, and lots of dead blow fish to see. The tide was orange which was weird, we were thinking it was algae washing up? But really cool. Overall a beautiful and quiet place to stay for a few days.

Report Check-In

A nice spot to camp and enjoy the isolated beaches.

Report Check-In

Really nice beach good for snorkeling and fishing. After the first night an old lady came and told us that it is not safe! They‘ll attack us. At the end of this strange story she asked us if we know this place from the internet,if so we should write it, that‘s not safe here. Unsecure if we should stay or not we asked several people in the village and the police. All save and never had any problems. At the end we stayed 5nights at different spots at the beach without problems!

Report Check-In

Great spot. Ended up staying 3 nights with no issues at all. Some locals came to dig clams, scallops and to fish. They even offered to sell us some of their clams. Did some swimming, saw some rays. Peaceful.

Report Check-In

Hard to find but nice, secluded place. I asked three times for the way, because there are so many paths up the hill. Another good advice is to use satellite image to find it.
Stayed 6 nights at different places in the area, absolutely no problems. A few visitors or locals every day. More quiet is the section to the north beach. But a short, steep, bumpy ascending to get there.

Report Check-In

Camping at the pebble beach of Punta Prieta. The dirtroad from Mulegé is difficult to find, bumpy, slippery when wet and big rigs will get some scratches. At the beach it is quiet, 3 day visitors passed by. Fishing boats made some noise in the night. The water is warm, nice snorkeling. Many Dolphins passed by at 11 am.

Report Check-In

was unable to access. the only left we could find lead to a house. perhaps we missed it somehow?

Report Check-In

We stayed here for one night and enjoyed the rocky beach - as the sun set the hot rocks getting hit by the waves created a cool and misty breeze - also the sound of the water was fantastic as it flowed through the rocks. We stayed on the beach a bit further down the road (just didnt turn to go up but carried on straight and took a right about 100 meters after). Camped here over night - no problems & saw dolphins when we walked up to the point in the morning.

Report Check-In

The road is as described and fine for our 2WD. If you can, park further down the beach, as we were woken up really early by cars driving down with fishermen/clam diggers coming down before sunrise or around that time.

Met a nice local man named Luis who invited us to his house for ceviche, warned us about the coming Hurricane Bud, it weakened by the time it got to us but he let us camp on his property in higher ground for two nights.

Report Check-In

I took the road further, there are a few more places with fire pits and beautiful look on the gulf. It was very windy as we arrived, but with the sunset the wind stops, so there was no problem with my Roof Top Tent anymore. I would recommend this spot!!

Report Check-In

Super quite rocky beach. Good for swimming if it's not a windy day. Dirt road coming in our 2wd van had no issues.
Stayed here for a night with no problems

Report Check-In

Rocky beach with access to the water. 2wd is okay if you know how to drive.
Quiet spot to spend the night for free.

Report Check-In

Great place if you actually want to get some sleep in a beautiful spot.

Report Check-In

Very nice place. Quiet and safe. lonely beach near mulege. the road its dirty but ok for any vehicle.

Report Check-In

Nice beach but nothing special. Not so good dirt road, some steep sections. Not sure if the detour is worth it, water is pretty cold and stone beach, might be good for surfing? Felt safe, some government military on our last day checking everything was OK.

Report Check-In

nice secluded, rocky beach...Road in passable for 2wd w decent clearance...very close to fun town of Mulege

Report Check-In

Boon docking on cliff edge - spectacular view of sea and its life. Near the other site but tricky road to get up - you would have to assess - 4x4 definitely and high clearance. We got up with Ford F-150 and camper. Also check weather for wind - we had three calm days and left when the wind picked up. Sunrises, sunsets, moonrises, moon sets, millions of stars. Well worth the effort!

Report Check-In

Nice free spot near the really cool town of Mulege. Pretty water, lots of wildlife.

Locals came out to fish and walk the beach Sunday afternoon, but everyone's friendly and it was very quiet otherwise.

Fishing boats came right into the bay dragging nets.
