Latest Check-Ins

USFS $20, FCFS Dry camping. CLOSED for season 9/05/23. Nice looking CG, with basic amenities; water, trash, pit toilets, and usual site amenities. Zero cell!! Hard sided units only due to griz activity. Host on site. Nice place, with sun and shade. 14 day limit. Host mentioned Labor Day weekend was packed, then closes for the season the next day. Soda Butte CG just a mile further North stays open a couple weeks later.
*We would stay here another time.

Very nice and well maintained NFS campground with a very friendly and helpful camp host, just outside of the northeast entrance of Yellowstone. We stayed here Labor Day weekend, and the campground was scheduled to close on Tuesday at 1pm. Believe it opens sometime in June. Very clean pit toilet; picnic tables and bear boxes at each site. $20/night, self-service cash only. The camp host told us that there are two female bears with cubs currently frequenting the area, though it seems folks must have generally been being responsible with their sites (and, of course, there was luck involved) because we did not see hide nor hair of the bears. Hardsided rigs only -- no soft sided popups or tents. Zero cell service with Google Fi/TMobile nor Verizon. We were in site #1 and got our Starlink to get a weak signal by making it face straight up, but you would not be able to do any video calls. Most of the sites were pretty heavily treed so I wouldn't count on being able to do any remote work here. Go to Yellowstone instead :P The location is ideal for doing early morning photography in Lamar Valley (also FYI, the Sinclair gas station in Cooke City has EXCELLENT coffee from a local roaster and fresh handmade pastries starting at 5am!)

(we use to report on cell service for people trying to work off grid; IG: @pampas.overland)
