Something not right?

Description

Free camping spot. Beautiful landscape. No facilities. No shade. Tad windy as it is in the open. Would stay for a night if darkness was approaching.

F- this place. I’d go somewhere else even if it was an hour further if you have the option. NO WHERE on the COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE WEBSITE does it say that you can’t have pets. I have CATS in my campervan. They do not go outside. I get a knock from the ranger saying we have to leave immediately because I can’t have a cat on the land. Even if it does not go outside??? What???? That should definitely be on the site. I called the Colorado wildlife area # and she said she thinks it would be fine? But call the other ranger. Ok fine. Called him, he said chapter 9 is where it says that. I was reading chapter 9. Where it said they need to be leashed or in your vehicle. And that I’m reading the “old” regulations from last year. Shouldn’t that be readily available on the website????? I had to hunt and hunt and hunt to finally find one tiny paragraph about it saying they need to be helping in hunting. I shouldn’t see 5+ times I can have pets on the website before you get to that tiny bullshit paragraph. All in all. Go somewhere else. Not worth it. Park n game will be bothering you.

Sadly, there’s no lake at the moment. We stayed overnight and it’s a beautiful grassland area. Safe

Exquisite, rustice camping spot for an overnight or more. View of the two buttes in the distance, and a sea of windmills in the other. Easily reached in a minivan or other vehicle, including a big rig or travel trailer. Plenty of room to turn any. vehicle around. Lots of birds. Some wildflowers. No facilities. Free. A single truck passed by in the evening. Otherwise quiet and secluded. We were the sole party for our 12-hour overnight stay. Recommended.

if you keep driving there is a pit toilet. I'm in a van and made it fine, there's a large rv here with me too that made the trip. on the right across from the abandoned building is a road going down to water and a locals cliff jumping spot.

Technically you need a valid CO state hunting or fishing license to stay in any state wildlife area, including this one. I don’t have one and haven’t been bothered by a ranger or anything yet, but know that there is a risk.

Good place to spend the night. Quiet, I was the only one here. The pin is at a grassy, somewhat flat area that has a small “camping area” sign. Not too hard to get level with blocks. Surprisingly, a big birding area. Nice bird song in the morning and evening.

I drove in further to see if I could find the more sheltered area the prior reviewer talked about. One of the roads is gated off. The right hand turn onto another road at the gate didn’t look very well used, didn’t want to venture down in my skoolie. There’s another road on the left about 100 feet before the gate, I drove down that and found another grassy area with some covered picnic tables. It’s actually a public shooting range, so if anyone showed up while you were there, it would be very loud. The gravel road near the designated camping area turns to packed clay, which looked like it could suck your vehicle in if it gets muddy. Rain was in the forecast, so I opted to just park in the designated camping area near the entrance.

Full AT&T cell service, 4 bars. Good enough to stream, make phone calls, and surf the web with no issues. The ranch road, which you take for about 4 miles once you turn off the highway, is well graded and small gravel, quite smooth to drive. The road once you enter the wildlife area is washboarded for the first bit but smooths out again.

After reaching the camp area I continued driving down the trail into the two buttes wildlife area and came upon a much more suitable parking area for camping. It’s a little bit better sheltered by some @workingtheearthsmall ridges and not as out in the open. However depending on the season you may need 4x4
