My posting on March 18, 2021 needs to be removed. Our GPS took us onto a different road (Scenic Loop Road) to get there and that's what I was writing about. If people go from West Rocalla Ave. in Ajo they should be fine.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
great little 360 degree view and park up top on a flat concrete pad with rock fire ring. nice enough to do a few days here. 3bars VZ
Report Check-InBeautiful surroundings with lots of options for a place to stay. Only one other camper out here…and they are our friends! Site known locally as “the slab” has a LOT of broken glass around. Close enough to Ajo to run into town for groceries or a good coffee at Oasis or Curley’s Coffee. Decent coverage with Verizon: 2-3 bars.
Report Check-InHonestly can't wait to come back here. Cactus heaven & mountain views to boot. Little roads all over to spread out and find more private spots, but I came on a Friday night and only saw two other rigs, so I parked in a spot right on Rocalla. 2 bars LTE Verizon.
Edit (2/18/23): Back again and man, I must have gotten lucky last year - there are dozens of campers around! Still just as beautiful.
Report Check-InWe have a jeep towing a 1972 trailer (18ft). We came in from Ajo from W Rocalla and then along Alley. It was pretty treacherous for us as the road was narrow, winding and had some sudden steep hills. We hit our trailer hitch on the ground coming in on our way up a steep hill. We made it, and it probably isn't that bad for vehicles that aren't towing (ie RVs, buses, truck campers). Coming from the other direction (from Darby Well and Scenic Route) has had dips filled in, so it should be better. BEAUTIFUL place to camp!! Us and the dogs loved it!
Report Check-InRoad in was maintained (dirt) with some washboarding. We went in about 3 miles and found a nice big pullover for 2 vans. Quiet, peaceful and beautiful mountains. Had a coyote serenade but no visitors. Verizon WiFi was good.AT&T not so great.
Report Check-InGreat area. Road is narrow, winding, and steep in some parts. Don't be put off bc I drove my 20' skoolie in without any problems. Just go slow
Report Check-Innice sunsets.
3 miles in from Ajo 2 to 3 bars of cell so easily find the place with GPS. many campers but plenty of room for everyone..
stopped at a pull off a bit north of this spot along Alley rd. i stayed here 1 night and it was calm and nice. 3 bars of tmobile service but no LTE. tons of pull offs to choose from.
Report Check-InBLM land with free dry camping for up to 14 days. Very scenic and quiet. Several mountain bike trails in the area. Camped with cell tower visible in distance and had 4 bar Verizon service.

Report Check-InWe were headed for this spot but there was a dip in the road at about 2.7 miles in from route 85 that was impossible to make in our truck camper. A jeep drove that road later and there were tail pipe marks on each side of the dip. We ended up parked just before an earlier, smaller dip at 32.338164 -112.858311. There was room for two rigs and it was quite scenic.
Report Check-InProbably one of best places I've camped in AZ! You get to camp free in place with most all varieties of mature cactus just feet away, great rock formations, and just 4.5 mi to beautiful town of Ajo. Best groceries at Olsens IGA on north side of town, and just beyond in Belly Acres RV park where you can stop in for a 50 cent hot shower! Many dirt roads in walking distance with more sites; be sure to explore. Easy day trip to Organ Pipe NP, but think scenery very similar. This is better than 5 star!
Report Check-InBeautiful quiet spot just minutes away from Ajo and about an hour from the border crossing at Lukeville.
Report Check-InIncredible BLM camping! Scenic 360 degree views and sunsets. Not too crowded, plenty of space to spread out.
Report Check-Inpick your spot, it's a huge expansive area with only a few RV dotting the landscape. In Ajo 11min away from where I'm now at is an IGA store for all your shopping needs.
Report Check-InAmazing desert camping. Spent Christmas here and it was beautiful, warm (for the middle of winter) and very secluded yet close to town. Will return here every time we’re in southern Arizona. Some really amazing spots deeper in if you have 4x4. Rarely saw anyone else besides a few motorcyclist.
Report Check-InWe did not follow the directions to the end but as stated many places to camp-everyone is quite separated, quite lovely
Report Check-InSweet, free, quiet, gorgeous place to hang out, while trying to avoid the COVID.
Report Check-InThis is a very nice area with many camping possibilities. Mostly accessible to 2-wheel drive. Good boondocking!~

Report Check-InLots of great private, quiet spots. No facilities. BLM free land. Some spots near road ok for lower clearance/non 4x4. Others farther in need 4x4 to get yo. A greenleat stay
Report Check-InExcellent campsite! Plenty of room and quiet! Beautiful scenery to tour on your bike or by foot!
Report Check-InNice little spot among the cacti. Gravel road which is a little slow going but 4 wheel drive is not necessary. We found a spot with plenty of room and fairly level.
Report Check-InBeautiful camping area surrounded by rolling hills and and cacti. Several camping spot options with fire rings.
Report Check-InIdeal camping right here. Free. Peaceful. Beautiful. Glorious sunsets. Close to town. Cannot be beat!
