For Zims it's USD 60$-90$ for a site (front on the river is 90, the ones just back are 60, there's not too much difference in the views unless you're camped behind a big group). Conservation fee was 8$ pp per day, and car fee was $3 per day.
We didn't book ahead, we just showed up with the hope for a more affordable campsite. 2 nights cost us $158, a bit too expensive for camping but we really wanted to visit this national park.

A big campsite with a nice view to the river. Minus was that this campsite is just next to the ranger/staff village and you can hear music and even the water pump/generator when they are on.

Very nice campsite next to the Zambezi river.
We arrive without booking and we still found free spot (beginning of September).the price seems to have change again as we paid 30$pp for a river front site. Hippo and elephant are just around you as there is no fence.

Beautiful campsite laid out right next to the river. Unbelievable wild life encounters here. From Elephants that surprise you during dinner, hippos that surprise you while sitting at the fire and hyenas that come in the evening looking for bones and taking them out of the fire.
Very basic, but has working, shabby, ablutions with hot water (solar geyser).

Some changes in 2023!
Now it is 100$ per ordinary site for maximim of 6 people and 130$ for the river front sites, no chance!
It is very expensive for what it is.
Also the site are not so well maintained, the bush is thick and dry…

Report Check-In

Camping right on the Zambezi River with no fences so you are guaranteed to see wildlife. The scenery is incredible. Hippos come out the water right next to camp, elephants graze nearby, but watch out for cheeky monkeys and baboons. DON’T leave any food out or unattended.

Watch out for the wet season as roads are tricky so you aren’t able to drive far.

Ablutions are basic and not maintained. Cost $30 for SADC so pretty expensive for the amenities. But you can by beer at the staff shop!

fees for international tourist in jun 2022:
- conservatory : 20 us$/pppn
- campsite : 23 us$/pppn
+ 30 us $ for our car (it is an Camper)

Nice place for the campsite.
but not always hot water in ablutions

Awesome wild campsite literally on the banks of the Zambezi River. We camped in the front row, SB1, and everything about it was awesome. Sunsets and sunrises to die for. Hippo talking to one another all day, stunning bird life and even elephants came to visit one night to drink some water. Can hear the lion, hyena and baboons at night and lots of monkeys and baboon during the day. Clean ablution. No hot water but so hot here that you don't need it.

You can get a gate pass at the ZimParks offices in the public works building in Chirundu (old boarder building, last door). Ask for Simba (whatsapp number: +260 96 0632404). He can also request for a campsite, like Nyamepi. Normally you can only get the SB1 and 2 if you don't book beforehand, but often people don't turn up if they have pre-booked in the national offices. Number 11 and 20 are flat and have nice shade.

Unfenced camping which is an amazing experience. No nearby shops so must come fully prepared. Do not bring citrus into the park due to the elephants breaking into trailers for it. Prices all in US dollars so very much out of the price range for a lot of people. Camping costs are per site, per person as well as an additional conservation levy over and above that. Permits must be obtained at Marongoro before entering the park.
