Ecuador
Gate opening hours only until 2pm. This is the start of the road to the refugio. Motos can park here, but aren't allowed further up. Any other vehicle can drive up.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Here is the entry to the Chimborazo park, it is free, you just need to register (last entry at 2pm). From there we drove 20 minutes further up to refugio carrel. The road is in a very good condition, any vehicle can make it. We parked the car at refugio carrel and walked 40 minutes up to the second refugio, refugio whymper. It is located on 5000 meters above sea level and the views are amazing. If you would like to camp on the parking lot of refugio carrel, you need to let the rangers at the park entrance know.
Report Check-InYou are allowed to drive up in any vehicle but not motorcycles. We even saw little pocket rockets drive up. Road is bumby and washed out but doable.
Report Check-InWe hid here from the snow for an hour or so with a hot drink and a bit of food, didn’t get to see the Refugio as motos aren’t allowed further up but in any case, if the weather is bitter cold, it’s a place to hide and warm up for a bit…
Report Check-InThis is the start of the road refugio. Motos can park here, at the pin, but arent allowed further up because reasons. Pickups can pass apparently, so I'd guess 4x4s and maybe big rigs can pass.
