The Stau gate is in renovation. We arrived at 6 am. There was nobody at the gate. Water at the old ablutions but not for drinking. Showers are working but not very clean. At 7 am somebody arrived to allow entrance.
We don't have any photos of this place yet.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
entrance fee PER DAY is 190 pp + 75 for the car.
you can also 'book'/pay the campsite here (at least at this time of the year). 40 pppn for the campsite.
possible to pay by card! :)
the way to the gate starts at the main road pretty much just after the vet checkpoint on the left side (coming from north).
Report Check-InFriendly staff. Always bring cash!! No card payments (at least for 99% of the time ;).
You can ask to fill your water tank from the staff (if it’s not smth like a 100l or so ;)
Tried to make some bookings in Ghanzi, system down, not very helpful guy, told to just come here and make a plan.
BRING PULA as they have no card payment facilities. Super helpful and friendly manager (month on, month off rotation) helped me cobble together a route which turned out well.
You can buy firewood here, 50p per big bundle, but it’s not cut, large pieces that are hard to store. Your not supposed to take wood from the within the park. I camped at the HQ, some running water, solar system smashed by elephants as it’s been poorly thought out, there is a waterhole 300m down the south cut line, some big elephants around it.
The cut line from the road is sandy but not a problem with Land Rover and 2t caravan. The first section is also used as access by heavy trucks to some farms. Keep to the track nearest the vet fence.
We were advised by a number of people including the ranger at the gate the tracks in the park were suitable for a Land Rover and large caravan (2.1m wide and 3.6m high). It’s possible, however it’s slow going and wouldn’t do it again. We’ve been into both Khutse and Mabuasehube with no problem.
Note the access route is signed a 100m before the vet checkpoint heading north (from Ghanzi). Therefore you can take meat into the park.
