Latest Check-Ins

Prepared because of the other postings we drove especially carefully. We were stopped shortly after this for alleged speeding and overtaking on an unbroken white line. We asked as below for the official photo not the mobile phone. He looked bashful. Smiled and let us go after 2 minutes. Will do that next time!

Report Check-In

still here. coming from Mbeya, we were stopped by a corrupted policeman. he showed us in his cell phone our car overspeeding at 82 in an area at 50! impossible, we were driving very carefully. we asked the official speed picture, not the cell phone. he smiled, so we left without speaking and without fines. Tired of these men :-(

Report Check-In

No police or speed trap (it was a saterday..)

Report Check-In

Thanks to all the warnings, we drove very carefully from Iringa to Kiwira. There were lots of police check points but we weren’t stopped. We kept to about 40kph in speed restricted areas and made sure we reduced speed well before and after the 50 sign.

They are still doing the same. They stopped us today for speeding, but I said that can't be true. After a long discussion and them getting aggressive towards me I said I have no cash can I pay by card. That is obviously not possible. So they sad a few other methods where you can pay by phone. I said they all don't work with foreign cards same as vodacom we always have to go into a branch to recharge. I offered driving to the next ATM (60 km away) and will come back for the payment. They allowed us and we never drove back 🤷‍♂️

Still there and doing the same thing.

What will they do:
1. Take a picture of your car after you left the 50 zone and photoshop it that you drove 54 or 56 km/h (I attached a picture of it)
2. Police officer will stop you a few kilometers later and show you the picture and ask for a fine
In total there we’re about 5 police stops between mbeya and makambako

What worked for us (paid no fine):
1. Start recording your tachometer always when you enter the 50 zones (we recorded the sign and the name of the place as well) and ideally drive 40 to avoid any discussion about the error margin of your tachometer
2. When they stop you show your proof (video) and let them know that you know that they are doing this since years and that you followed the law
3. Never give out your driver license before seeing their ID and noting it down (all officers refused to show us their ID)
4. Stay friendly but hold your ground firmly
5. If they argue forever just continue driving (you will get stopped at the next police stop but they were more reasonable in our case)

Camera trap is still there: they photograph you further down the road speeding just before 50 zone ends. We tried to argue for 30 mins before giving up and paying 30k, got a receipt with the officer’s name and badge number. Also all locals paid the same, tens of people were fined while we argued, so it seems legit and you can even fetch the the pic that they show from the phone from the nearest police station.

Report Check-In

They tried the same scam on us except it was at the next town. We told them we knew their tricks and showed them how popular they are. We only hand out laminated copies of drivers license so they can't retain the original from us. We recorded them on video, took the officers details (H 9319) and left against their will

Report Check-In

They were not here today.
Either only temporary, or they stopped the scam!
Plenty of other police checkpoints between Iringa and Mbeya, though.
Was only stopped once; the friendly officer just asked me where I was going.
Another one wanted a lift 😊.

These guys are still trying the same thing. I did exactly as the last guy said and told them they were famous. 5mins of arguing, didn’t pay anything

Report Check-In

Thanks to Ioverlander sui reported a corrupt policeman there, I had blocked the speed with the regulator at 50 km, I was stopped he asked me for my driving license then showed me a photo montage with his smartphone where we could see the sign 50 km my vehicle and the speed of 58 km, I explained to him that it was not an approved device, showed him the information of Ioverlander indicating "police corompue" took back my driving license in his hands and left without paying almond

Report Check-In

They are still present. I was photographed at 54km/h before the 50 sign. A serious crime. Just sit in tight and refuse to pay anything. I refused to leave the car and refused to move the car before i got my license back. They let me go after about 30 minutes
