Description

We’ve spent a few days with the guys from Yeti Gear workshop, highly recommended. Talk to Vivek, the owner, who speaks amazing English.
He runs a workshop right behind the airport and his main mechanics have been with him 35 years.
After 60,000km we got a big maintenance for our Land Cruiser, including swivel bearing replacement, new brake pads/fluid etc. They use original Toyota parts and did a thorough and great job.
We could use all facilities whilst the car was repaired and he was also ok with us sleeping in the car.
For those who need it they are the importer for Ironman 4x4 from Australia and AluCab.
Vivek also runs 4x4 tours through Nepal so go and ask him for hints ;) Overall great people. Facebook: Yeti Gear

Latest Check-Ins

I was fortunate to run into a fellow Overlander in Kathmandu who steered me to Yeti Gear and its very friendly and helpful owner, Vivek. It’s a large, clean, secure, organized facility used for car repair and for overlanders, storage. Vivek, who speaks perfect English (grew up partly in the USA), offers rental spaces at a decent price, does this more because he wants to help Overlanders rather than as a business.

Ive left my motorcycle with him, will be back in January to get it. He cleaned and lubed it for me as well, even sent a video of that.

Great guy, great place. Two thumbs up! 👍👍

The Yeti Garage is also listed on ioverlander as Yeti Overlander campsite - see separate listing. We camped on site but didn’t use the garage facilities but it looks clean, spacious and well equipped and others reported good experiences.

This is the go-to place in Kathmandu both for vehicle repair and maintenance but also if you just need a place to stay with your vehicle.

The owner Vivek is a great guy with humor and a good knowledge of everything relevant for overland travelers. His mechanics are amazing and will keep working until the problem is solved.

We came with some break-related warning lights and as the diagnostic software didn't know our vehicle, they went on to find the problem manually and solved it.

We stayed at this place much longer then expected as it is a great base from where to discover Kathmandu and the valley. Yes, you can hear the planes starting and it's not central (30min taxi) but the place itself feels calm and is the best you can find in Kathmandu.

Clean bathroom, really hot shower, electricity hook up, spacious yard for camping as well as short and longer-term parking (eg. Trekking). Shops & Restaurants around, very convenient for Airport, Bhaktapur and Patan

Vivek and his guys are great! Very professional mechanics. Highly recommended if you need any maintenance done or are in the market for Ironman 4x4 or camping gear. He is also rapidly turning his place into a perfect overlanders pit-stop by constructing a spacious room for you to stay while your car is in the workshop. Or you can camp. We stored our car here safe and secure for a couple of months and picked it up freshly washed.
