Something not right?

Description

A small park with lake views. The lovely policeman on duty, Freddy, watched our van for us while we were at the climbing area and let us stay the night there (he was guarding the entrance all night). We cooked him dinner and spent hours practicing our Spanglish together, super friendly!

Note: this road doesn't go through to the north, despite what Google says! only passable on a motorbike.

Latest Check-Ins

Police came at 9pm and were friendly but did a full inspection of the inside of our van looking for drugs/guns. Took about 15 minutes. They then proceeded to tell us it was dangerous here at night, even though there's lots of families here during the day. They then escorted us to park in front of their police station, which is listed at: (Estación de policia

Report Check-In

This place cannot be reached from Amatitlán town using the 'coastal' road: it's purposely blocked with metal poles. We drove around using the toll road (follow the signs Mayan Golf).

This is a municipal, day use, free camping where families of Villa Nueva spend a (weekend) day and BBQ. There are bathrooms, playground equipment for children, picknick tables, a deck, chess 'field' and vendor stands. No motorcycles, cars or alcoholic beverages allowed. Well maintained, clean and guarded 24/7.

The very friendly police officer didn't dare to let us in with our vehicle at noon, nor take the risk letting us stay well within the park (for privacy) for the night because of the frequent nightly robberies at the far end near the road block. He contacted his supervisor, who did not respond, not even after an hour's wait.

He would have let us in near sunset if we stayed close to where he is at night - he was very concerned about our safety. We eventually left.
