Description

After driving a looooong way from San Javier to San Jose de Comondu and then San Isidro, we stopped at the only restaurant in town in La Purisima. After a tasty dinner we asked the waiter for a place to camp and he offered a place to pitch our tent out back behind the restaurant. They also have rooms for rent but we didn't investigate. Typing this up at night and not sure how much camping will cost. I suspect it will be very cheap though. The area is gated and has a bathroom. The tienda across the street (the only one in town) had bright lights and loud music playing into the night, but we are just happy to have a safe place to sleep for the night. No cell or wifi service.

We would like to make recommendations and encourage others to visit here. The town is next to a spring fed river, palm trees, and unique mountains. There is a museum, hiking trails, and ecological areas here. The owner Albert is very proud of his campground and has a beautiful area to camp. We talked to him about making it RV, van, camper, tent friendly, and had already begun to widen and clear height clearence to entrance to campground. We do not recommend Class A RVs. We made it work but was stressful due to height and size. The area to camp is on the river, with access, stonework tables, grills, etc. The cost was high for what you got, but we negotiated and discussed that with Albert. We paid 1,000 pecos for 3 nights. They will cook a home style dinner (don't know cost) if you ask and sell a LaPurisima wine(220 per bottle). You can access LaPurisima from many routes. The paved road from Ciudad Constitucion is do able, just don't be in a rush, watch pot holes, etc. In town there is a museum, eco tourism, hiking trails, friendly locals, nicely stocked grocery store, and access to multiple off road adventures that will take you to Sea of Cortez side. The scenery on any of them is stunning. Unique formations, palm trees and peaceful dark sky's are amazing. see photos and maps I'm posting. If you want the roads less traveled then this is for you.

In back of restaurant coming from Ciudad Insurgentes going to San Juanico. GPS google map told us to take a road close to this city of La Purisma. Here we ask and have to take the road near Las Barrancas. Anyways we will have to do 24 km tomorrow again. Also we hantent seen any camp in Las Barrancas. So didn’t had many choices. Restaurant is good, friendly staff but they don’t see tourists often! We are well parked no amenities no wifi (there is in town) no cell service. They stated saying it’s 150 pesos for the family of 4 and the truck. Finally it’s 200 pesos. Restaurant prices are very high, I think they have menu for tourists. Maybe don’t eat too much.

A great little spot and lovely staff at the restaurant and hotel; camped in vehicle with our dogs and had access to shower/restroom for $50 MEX per night, for two people; no wifi, but there's a pay option for wifi across the street (buy card, slow wifi); if you have 4x4, good clearance, and are looking for a little adventure, the road from Rosarito, on Mex 1, via San Isidro, to here is slow going, but absolutely breathtaking!

Very fine food. Otto is an excellent chef. Try day dish or the torta. Everything has a gourmet touch.
