Great and free spot on public sandy street. There is a security guard from the house called Akoya working from 6pm-6am. There's also another guard from the campsite working all night. Felt safe.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
This spot is not safe! Got robbed on New Years! Second time this year in this country. Be careful out here cause CR is not safe at all. Police isn’t doing anything even if you have the location of the phone. Don’t leave anything at the beach never. Don’t leave your vehicle alone at night. They get in every car. At this point every other country is safer. The security guy was chilling on his phone all night and didn’t do anything.
Police said always pay for parking in CR if you go out at night.
It was a good place to camp in theory. Security guard is there overnight, but it is still a public alleyway so there is a good amount of foot traffic. We had an obviously inebriated man trying to engage us for a large part of the night, until he finally fell asleep. Worth the extra time to stay in Mal Pais in our opinion if you want peace and quiet.
Report Check-InSpent one quiet and safe night. This is certainly safer than the camping next door, as the guard walks around all night to take care of the place.
Friendly dude, even said I could park closer to where he stays, but I felt unnecessary. Free.
You can still use restroom at the camping. Btw, on the street is even nicer than the camping, as lots of people use the trees in the camping area to pee... Camping is pretty run down these days.
This is a sweet spot. Actually better than the campground which I stayed at 3 nights before I realized I was spending 3500 colones a day for a bathroom. There’s a coffee shop just down the street if you need. Less light infiltration than the parking lot
and equally safe. There is a guard for the luxury house next door that does regular patrols. He said an Argentina couple once stayed 20 days.
