beautiful spot. sparse but does have a dumpster on sight. just took the paved road to the end and was very easy to approach. can find a spot anywhere on the lake side.

Report Check-In

This place is not technically free as it is $8 a night to primitive camp in the park.

Report Check-In

couldn't access from road 31a as road is now flooded.

Went looking for this place but didn’t want to go down onto this rough looking road so I turned around. I went south on the little road there towards the “boat ramp” listed on google maps (about a mile). Never did find a boat ramp but along the road that way, there were several big dirt pull out areas and a few RVs. Level. I parked next to a fire ring so I felt like that was a “spot” and a good distance from the others. Was a lil nervous but it really was a nice quiet stay with a beautiful peaceful sunrise. I’d stay here again

Stayed here first week of may. But dont follow the gps. It leads down a rugged dirt/muddy road that 4x4 would be able to take. We dont have 4x4 and turned around. Take the paved road that leads right to a large paved area that was absolutely beautiful. I would stay here again for sure.

Hundreds of campers and revelers here on the north shore of the lake. Arrived after 5PM on the way from Carlsbad Caverns to White Sands. Found a nice spot on the shore nearby other campers, some permanent and some here for weekend parties. Hoping the camper upwind with the noisy noxious generator has the courtesy to shut it down at night. Great Verizon coverage. Moderately good ATT.

There are a lot of options for camping along the lakeshore. The road is rutted and bumpy, but we made it fine in a 2WD sprinter. I’d be cautious if rain is in the forecast. Yes there is a lot of garbage, but it is New Mexico after all. Take a bag with you when you leave. No amenities. Intermittent cell service on ATT. Free!

Not great. So trashed. Stinks, literally. Was ok for the night, but if you have time to spare, I'd suggest finding a different spot. Don't take the road at night, otherwise you rish losing a tire. We arrived 6pm, there was one car with people walking around with a metal detector, and another van with a crazy drugged up lady. Both left, we were the only ones there for the night.

We took road 31 off of hwy 285 and road 31A was totally flooded about halfway to this marked spot, but there was a nice little turnout just before the water that worked well for a night. Maybe taking Skyward rd off 285 would get you here, but we didn't try.

Report Check-In

Couldn’t get to this spot because the lake had flooded the road.
