Description

Great place to learn about chocolate, plants & processing & etc. Juan, the owner, is very friendly and let us camp on his farm just a mile away in the middle of the jungle. He called it his personal 'Walmart' and showed us all the herbs, roots and fruits which we were free to use for dinner. Great atmosphere at night when the monkeys started to howl. Camping is free, but we booked the 2-hour tour for next day. It's a family-run business and while Juan leads you through the chocolate-making process his wife prepares a Mayan lunch (tour & lunch for 35$ US).

Juan and his wife are very welcome. The factory is in the village of San Felipe, the farm is about a mile from the factory. Juan will show you the way. It's up the road on the right hand side around a little hill outside the village.
Price for camping still 10 B$ per person. Chocolate tour should be 50 USD per person, a bit expensive for us. So we bought even more chocolate instead.
Juan said we were the first overlander since covid, and he is happy to welcome more!

We just showed up and Juan wasn’t here. There was a lady here but she didn’t really know anything. Juan was in town and wouldn’t be back for 2 hours so we moved on to the next place. It’s beautiful here so I wouldn’t rule it out but maybe try and find some contact information online to arrange your stay before hand.

All the comments from 2016 stand. Juan is generous with his time and his knowledge. Camping is now 10 BZD pp but there are showers and toilets and a place to cook in the shade. The farm is amazing. We had pineapple, avocado, herbs, shoots - so much to eat. Make sure you book the chocolate tour in advance because you cannot just turn up, that said we arrived one day, no tour, so Juan gave us a tour of the farm - and it is amazing - and we joined the chocolate tour the following day. Probably our favourite stop in Belize so far. There is an open hearth for cooking on (collect your firewood) and wifi is available at the chocolate factory.
