Mexico
Campground in wide grassy field with tables and some kind of firepits.
50 pesos entrance for park, camping included.
very secure and guarded.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
We have spent a quite night here and were the only ones camping in our van.
Arrived at 6pm and paid 200 pesos for entrance fees and camping. Wasn’t possible to negotiate this price.
The fee for the entry to Nevado to Toluca is 50 Pesos per car. No extra fee for the campground. Banos were closed. Everyone went into the woods. Much trash on the place. Music from 6 am to 8 pm.
Report Check-InThe entrance to the park is normally 50 pesos/ car. But as they saw we are 2 persons we received 2 tickets and had to pay 100 pesos.
Normally 1 ticket = entry for car parking space and entrance for camping space.
During the weekend you pay 50 pesos for cars taking you up to the top of Nevada de Toluca, and 50 for bringing you back down. You can also hike up.
When arriving at the top with the cars you have to pay 56 pesos for the access to the lakes and the very top of the volcano.
During the first night (Saturday-Sunday) there where many people camping overnight. On Monday they told us the park would be closed.
We payed 100 pesos for the entrance and 200 pesos for the night. Very calm but expensive without services.
Report Check-InShowed up on a Thursday afternoon and they didn’t want to let me drive up. After I explained that I needed to be at the crater early to hike, one of the guards got on an ATV and escorted me up to the location marked as “Nevado de Toluca - Free” on iOverlander and charged me $350. Not what I expected based on previous descriptions, but got me access to drive up to the crater early so worth it I guess.
Report Check-InEntrance fee: 50 MXN per vehicle now, for which you can stay in the park as long as you want. Stayed overnight here, before driving up further, good to get used at the high altitude. If you like to drive up further yourself, only possible during the week. We did this with our 24 ft. truckcamper, on a Friday. Very busy during the weekend, parking lot at the top is rather small. That’s why they at that moment block the road for private vehicles, pick-up trucks are foreseen to drive people up and back, once they are filled up. 50 MXN per person one way. Doesn’t look comfortable, to sit in the truck-bed, on this very bumpy road.
Report Check-InA really quiet place for overnight. But it is very high and at night it was 0 grad Celsius cold. Toilets are rough but clean.
Report Check-InThe place for tent camping is a few 100m down the road, no access with cars. It was very cold, when I was there in January. All of my water froze, so be prepared.
There are no toilets or showers directly on site, there are toilets at the tourist center though.
Nice enough place with a couple of concrete palapas. Busy during the day, deadly quiet at night. Still free! Had -5°C at night!
Report Check-InArrived 7:30 on a Wednesday night. No one was around until a man drove up to point us to the correct camping area (up near the trees and the hut). He charged us 140 pesos for camping - 2 ppl in a Subaru - and said it included the park fee. Pretty basic - only service was running water in the bathroom but it served its purpose for the night and we had great weather for our hike up Toluca.
Report Check-Incampground in wide grassy field with tables and some kind of firepits.
40 pesos entrance for park, camping included.
very secure and guarded
We arrived after the gatekeeper had gone home and didn't have to pay to enter. We parked for free for two nights, driving up the steep road to the crater in the day and returning at night.
Nice grassy meadow, there was nobody else camping when we visited in May and all facilities were closed.
Perfect place to cool down if the coast is too hot. It was a days drive from Acapulco for us and the temperature drop was around 25 degrees C.
