Description

Ricardo has ridden all over patagonia on his KLR and loves to meet motorcycle overlanders and has some great advice for Tierra del Fuego. We had a big asado Cordero prepared in the traditional style. Very tasty. Theres a cafe too. This is a nice spot on the way to the glacier if you want a hot shower and to camp amongst the trees with a view of the ice fields coming down from the mountains. Shelters available for tents. Can be windy elsewhere.

Great Camping with Personal bathes. Very clean and never seen on other places.

The hosts are lovely and very kind. Also helped to fix a Problem on our van. They also run a cafeteria with sandwiches and cakes, also a good possibility to stop and rest.

Place also good for Big Rigs because they have plenty of space.

Best Place if you are planning to do the glacier hike.

Good wifi via Starlink

Ricardo’s father is also really friendly and likes to speak English with the guests. The campsite is located 2 kilometers before the current road closure. You might be able to drive beyond it soon. We saw many working crews heading there.

Stayed here one night. Beautiful location surrounded by snow capped peaks. Your private clean bathroom. Sheltered kitchen space. The owner is very nice. While backing up our camper van was in a weird position. The owner helped us like it was his own car. We successfully removed the van from a precarious position without a scratch. Many thanks to the owner!! Gracias!

I can’t say enough nice things about this place and the hosts! If you like things quiet, scenic and good people, just spend a few nights here, you won’t regret it!

What an oasis! Everything written is true, we loved the place and can recommend it 100%

Very nice owners and place. Recommended.

What an amazing place to stay. Ricardo and his wife are lovely people. Ricardo loves to chat and share information about the area and give you tips for your ongoing journey. He even made fire for us in the kitchen which can be used by all campers and is great to hang out in cold and wet nights.

You'll get your own clean bathroom with hot water and all this for just 8.000/person

They also sell delicious dishes, homemade cakes, and proper coffee, so even if you don't need a place to stay make sure to stop for some food.

Best camping site so far! Very nice owner, we were able to sit by the fire in the common "hut", there was a gas stove and fire wood - all you need! Private bathrooms, a possibility to fill up your water tanks - everything for 8.000 p. person. Also breakfast for 4.000 p. person, bread, marmalade, cheese, salami, selfemade apple mash. Very welcomig- we had breakfast together in their kitchen! You can also ask for washing the cloth, 7.000 for apx. 3kg.

Ricardo is the friendliest campground owner we have met. He is very welcoming and tried to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We were there off-season and had the campsite almost to ourselves. Each camper has their own lockable bathroom. The fireplace in the kitchen invites you to linger and Ricardo also refilled the necessary wood every day. The on-site café has delicious snacks and everything is very nicely presented and clean. We definitely recommend. For us it was the best campsite in Chile. Guess we paid 8000pp.

Ricardo was very friendly and helpful! Had a great time! The drive through the valley is amazing. The campsite is beautiful. Ricardo made us a fire for the night. Would definitely recommend this place!

Great place, wonderful scenery, super clean private showers. Friendly hosts. Suggest you pass on the food though. Terrible and very expensive.

Report Check-In

Good place. Private and very clean bathrooms. Very friendly hosts. Café with small dishes and delicious tartas. The terrain does not look very flat, but it was easily possible to find a leveled space. 7000 pp.

Report Check-In

Everythings was amazing there! Food, the place, the private bathrooms and especially the owners! They sell egs from their own chicken.
We paid 12000 for two people.
The camping is closed during winter but they rent rooms all the year.

Cafetería y camping, con ducha caliente. Totalmente recomendable.

This is an amazing place! Highly recommend! We parked our campervan here for the night and had an amazing dinner at the restaurant. Gracious hosts, amazing food and hot showers at a great price! There is also a great communal covered area for cooking for yourself that included a gas stove and sink. What more could you ask for!

Great homemade pies and raspberry juice. Very friendly people! They have never had Wi-Fi though
The road is good and open up to km 26.

Really excellent camping. free log fire in a great cabin accessible to all campers. superb food in the cafe. Very lovely and helpful family running it all. definitely worth a visit.

Fans of this spot! And Ricardo the owner. We arrived late and he set us up quickly with a spot for our van, a bathroom of our own (luxury after 4 nights of wild camping!). In the morning we had great coffee and home made pies - lemon and a cranberry-almond one. Delish! Also great company. I really do hope we find our way back there one day!

We were guests at Ricardo and his parents. The campsite is very clean and very lovingly furnished. Especially we liked the private showers and baths. Ricardo loves his home and his valley. You can tell that in every corner of the square.

Stopped there to shower and have a churrasco
Churrasco is delicious, 6000pesos
Shower was expensive 3000pesos pp

Great place in the beautiful valley. Nice, cosy and tidy. Frendly owners, helpful and knowlegible. No GPS signal.

Spent four nights on this lovely campsite, while we went for the glacier trekking and the boat trip to laguna san rafael. The son of the owner family speaks good english and has a lot of tipps for the area.

This place is great!
We were travelling two up and looked at the tragic places in Rio Tranq and at first thought we might Wild Camp along the Bahia Explorer road. We came across La Nutria exactly 20 Km from town. We were met by Ricardo senior and his wife with a lovely smile; they showed us around and where we could camp for 5000 pp so we decided to stay the night and ended up staying for three. They have private Showers and toilets for each group, so basically you get to set yourself up in the bathroom and leave your stuff..... the wife loved it. There is a common area with a great open fire place and plenty of wood available. the place is run on generator and solar and it was great sitting in the common area by a large fire drinkng wine at night :)..... best of all it was quiet
We used this place as a base and spent the following days doing some hikes to the miridor and sightseeing as well as going back into town to get supplies. There is a restaurant on site catering to the passing tourists, where you can buy wine, beer and eat the most wonderful home cooked food. As mentioned Ricardo junior has a wealth of knowledge about all the tracks and trails and has traveled everywhere on his bike. They are looking to further develop this for bikers so please support them... its well worth it for a quiet, peaceful time. The area will also support large and small rigs but there is no electricity

Fantastic place! As for established campgrounds: stopping here was one of my better experiences in the region. Having made it a base camp for a couple of days I got a lot of opportunities to have fireside chats with the owners (Ricardo and Ricardo) and another great Aussie couple that were staying here. Great people, great conversations! The fire was going around the clock in the very nice common building keeping you nice and toasty warm. The valley it sits in is incredibly picturesque and close to some of the attractions in the area. The private bathrooms are a nice touch. I had stayed in town the previous day and can say the camping was not nearly as nice in town. It is highly worth stopping in town to grab some supplies and heading straight here to camp. My only regret is that I didn’t try Ricardo’s cafe sooner: just before leaving I tried out his Churrasco and it was amazing - one of the better sandwiches I had in the last 3 months in Chile (if not the best)... and the fresh out of the oven lemon pie !!! so good! So even if you don’t stay, plan to stop at the cafe on the way to the attractions (I think he mentioned being open between 9a-9p most days): it’s well worth it! Enjoy!

Very warm and friendly people (father and son both named Riccardo and the mother Donna Lydia). Every campinggroup got their own private bathroom (toilet and shower with hot water all day). Shelter with kitchen, sink, stove for heating, power. Delisious Churrasco. This place is a must!

We have spent excellent days in La Nutria! Ricardo and his family are great people and they are willing to help any time! We have traveled with two little kids (2,5 and 4y) so it helped us to spend few nights inside the guest room which the owners offered us! We meant to stay three nights but extended it as we love the place! I fully recommend La Nutria and we will be happy to come again and vander around!!! Thanks!

Unreal views of three glaciers and their mountains in the light and a star sky in the night. Ricardo speaks perfect English, is easy to talk to and has a thousand tips for your further journey.

Every site gets their own private bathroom with hot shower. There is a sheltered quincho with a gas stove. A lot of mini pigs and goats on the premises but not in the campground.

Highly recommended!

this is a fantastic little camping ground. it has great views looking pu at 2 mountains. plus it has to be one of the best roads i have seen with every bend you get a different view of the valley and mountains. 5000 peso .

Camping was full when we arrived with a big South Korean team (40 tents!) staying there for a TV reality show. however the friendly owner let our family sleep exceptionnally in the cafétéria. We had to leave the next day but I would recommend definitely to camp here instead of staying in río tranquilo. this campsite is a real one in a nice landscape.

excelente camping con hot showers. pet friendly.

we arrived in one of the worst time im this camp. it was allready raining for 8 days and because of this everything wet.
when we arrived the owner were very nice, he gave us an other foodprint for our tent to protect our from the water of the botom. also there is a shelter with firepit to warm you up! soooo nice.
when we went to the shelter, the fire was allready burning for us...!
6000 peso/each person its nothing for what you get...
i would defently come back!

Report Check-In

we came here on a rainy, cold day.
inside the cafeteria we asked lidia for a campspot. minutes later ricardo came out and told us we better stay in their house. of course with our own bathroom.... wow they invited us in their own house!!
campground was beautiful, but couldn't resist a warm bed and livingroom :-)

they were very welcoming and nice. lidia cooked amazing dinner for us and Ricardo speaks English reasonably enough for a nice conversation (mixed with our poor spanish)
slept like a baby!

next morning breakfast was included. and when it started to rain hard again they even offered us to stay longer!
definitely a place to come back too!

I hope this place booms, great plans to gear up more for Overland Motorcycle travelers. Ricardo is a wealth of information for travel around South America. Real coffee and scenery to die for. Do not miss visiting this place on your way South. Glen the Aussie biker

Report Check-In

Ricardo was extremely welcoming and helpful - he and his parents understand tourism and hospitality far better than any of the other cafes or camping areas in Tranquillo and it shows: The cafeteria is cozy and well-priced with stunning glacial views. You can get a proper coffee here... and waffles!! The camping area is nicely done and each campsite is assigned a bathroom; they are clean and well-maintained. The family is developing the campground and may have cabins in the future. Ricardo is talking about having moto-necessities available for overlanders (a workplace, tools, chain lube, etc.). Riding or driving down Ruta Exploradores is a must-do... it's an absolutely stunning road, rain or shine. Some nasty corrugations here and there, but the views make it all worthwhile. 5000 pesos per person for camping. Note: the family has 2 dogs, but they also welcome pets as they know what it is to be a family traveling with 4-legged family members, too.

A note about wifi: there is none available in Valle Exploradores and the internet in Tranquillo (20kms from here) is only a satellite or mobile-based connection at the moment. It was fast enough for e-mail and uploading 1 photo to Facebook, but I needed to send a short video for work and tried for two days straight, even using a borrowed Entel USB device, and had no luck. SO, if you NEED internet for something important, don't plan on doing that thing here. Plan to disconnect and just enjoy nature.
