Description

Excellent mechanic!! The owner "Oliver Wiesnegger" speaks German, Spanish and English. He and his crew fixed a serious piston damage on our Steyr 12M18. It took 5 weeks (!!!) to organize all parts from Germany, fixing the damage and finally test all systems. Oliver let is stay all the time in his secured shop and we could use his Wifi, electricity, water and restrooms. They made a fabulous job!

Very good place for doing several repairs. Although German and English speaking Oliver wasn‘t there during our visit, the crew did a really great job and the rates also were more than correct. They also allowed us to stay overnight inside there property until the required material for the protective strip on the roof of our cabin came until the next day.

We arrived here on Thursday eve literally as they were closing up. We realised Oliver wasn't there for another two weeks but it was late and the area is super super sketchy so we asked if we could stay the night and it was fine.

Mechanical issues aside we stayed here in the end from Thursday to Tuesday. It's a fairly comfortable place with electricity, shower, night guards and really good wifi. If you do get stuck here for a few days then head to Puerto Salvador Allende over the weekend to see some civilisation in a safe and pleasant place on the water edge. It's a 50Cord. taxi each way, on the water front, a range of restaurants and bars and cheaper street food sellers outside (at weekends) - the cheapest restaurant seems to be the Italian. Had a nice afternoon out of the garage... there's also a huge market area at the back of the garage but beware the area is pretty rough and take minimum items out with you... a gringo stands out like a sore thumb! Mon-Fri there's an onsite cook and she makes amazing lunches for 70-80Cord.

So here goes... Friday we had the work looked at and the main issue we could advise on (from previous owners).
1) Squeak from the fan belt pulley which either needed tightening or replacing
2) Check brakes and swap the spare tyre
3) Knock noise when steering moves full lock L/R
4) Repair the rear door (welding at hinge)

Anyhow it's a long story... we got quoted work that didn't need doing - which we realised after speaking to the previous owners for example, brake pads replaced three months ago and the fan belt four months previous, yet these two things were quoted for replacement - absolutely not necessary based on the facts. Due to all the confusion (and battling) Friday was a tough day and we agreed to pay $700 to get the work done but after sleeping on it and getting a second opinion from a mechanic back home, we brought up all the issues again on Saturday before they started any work. The only guy that speaks English is a young mechanic (Kimmy) who just seems extremely uncomfortable been left to deal with us and advised no work would be done until Monday when Oliver arrives. We took a big gamble staying for four days and nothing had been done but when Oliver came on Monday it was brief moment of relief.

In short... I'd strongly recommend not using the garage for anything more than basic repairs, ESPECIALLY if the owner isn't here. We're not questioning his mechanics work ethic but it was a total shambles and very stressful experience. When they (5+ guys) tries to rehang the door and it was totally out of line, they all just walked off and disappeared. My b/f had to try and fix it himself before Oliver returned and gave us a hand.

All in all we paid $172 and points 1) and 3) were worse in our opinion - and the original part we said needed to be replaced was finally advised on 1 hour before leaving on day 6 - absolute joke and we still don't know why they didn't listen to us. 2) we paid $40 to check the brakes, misadvise and then 'apparently' clean them 4) apart from the welding work, it was worse than when we arrived and we had to solve the issue.

We really really wished we'd not gone here or at least stayed as long as we did in the hope that we'd actually have some repairs. Oliver seems a nice enough guy and it's a comfortable place but we left with more problems than when we arrived and out of pocket!

We came here to have our spark plugs and cables changed for our 2000 Chevy van, and they did well. Since they couldn't finish in one day, we were allowed to sleep overnight there (wifi, bathrooms, showers).
The price was reasonable.
Would recommend it.

Mwa, not so sure about this...

Mega disclaimer: they were super friendly
Mega disclaimer 2: Oliver was not there

We had a couple of small stuff to do on the car, stuff they could have done within the afternoon we arrived. Instead, it took them almost two days (+1 day because of general power outage in the neighbourhood). They were constantly stopping to work on my car and continue on others, without saying anything. Their communication is really bad. Every time I had to go and ask them why they weren't working on it.

Finally came the moment supreme: the bill: we felt they overcharged quite a bit and after complaining they dropped the bill with 15% to a more reasonable level, although afterwards the squeaking of the suspension didn't seem solved...

Yes, it's great to have a super friendly and helpful mechanic (they drove around with me to another specialist, and called an electrician to come in site for a little issue) and it's great he let us sleep on the premises, but we feel they were taking advantage of the boss not having around, just to hang around a bit.

So Oliver, if you're reading this, you might want to have a chat with Gustavo about how he manages the crew, because he isn't...

Oliver and his team made a very good job. They change the belt of my Landcruiser in a short time and organized new leaf springs, because they were broken. He and his team are very friendly and helpful. Thanks Oliver!

Visited this place as we need clutch change soon. Only place where they could find whole kit was Mercedes dealer less then 4km away. As its Mercedes original part and its in Central-America, they aske lots of money and your first born. Did not changed it here. Oliver quoted whole day for clutch change. It should be 2-3 hours work as my friend told me from back home who works for Mercedes dealer. Price for change was quoted 100usd labor + parts

This is a diamond in the rough of Managua for overlanders. Anything you need mechanically, Oliver will diagnose and take care of for you. Even staying overnight in the shop until the work is done, we had so much fun and got so much work done for a fair price. Oliver is honest and considerate, as well as accommodating. With 35+ years in the field, a more than experienced mechanic. All the guys working here are really nice and skilled workers. We Are so happy with the work that got done, couldn't have done it without them. Take care of this crew, this is a dream setup in a key location for overlanders on route through the Americas.

A full shop with lifts, pits, proper tools, and paint room. Oliver greeted us and diagnosed our main problem in under 10 minutes. We gave him and his crew a list of small issues and they attended to all of them, pointing out that half weren't any problems at all. They ended up rebuilding our steering pump, putting in new seals and high pressure line, replaced a couple bushings on our steering stabilizer bar, and swapped our pitman arm for a longer one. Their work was outstanding and we were kept informed throughout the entire process. It took a couple days to get all the necessary parts so we were allowed to stay onsite for free. Price for our repairs was extremely fair, we highly recommend this shop.

Oliver the owner is a great guy and his mechanics know what they're doing. A few days after they worked on my car, someone tried to steel my wheel but couldn't because of my security lug nut. My wheel was damaged and Oliver fixed it for me and realigned my car no charge. I've been getting great gas mileage since they worked on the motor as well. Totally recommended.

Oliver is a super friendly Austrian living in Nicaragua for quite some time. He is also an excellent mechanic and fixed one of our buses and let us camp on his property. He also welcomes overlanders who have no mechanical problems but just need a place to stay in Managua in their vehicle. No showers but with bathroom and wifi:)

I had a very unfortunate experience here. I'll start by saying Oliver and all of the mechanics are very nice, knowledgable, and welcoming. I was allowed to stay in the shop sleeping in my rig with bathroom access and wifi. That being said, I showed up because my engine was leaking oil and I left nearly three weeks later with a lot less money and an engine still leaking oil . After doing some fixes they declared that the issue was from my engine being old and leaking pressure into the crankcase, requiring a rebuild to fix the leaks. I left defeated, unwilling to spend the requested 3 weeks and estimated $2,000+ dollars, but decided to get a second opinion in Rivas. The mechanic was familiar with my bus, called the pressure issue false, and had me out of his shop leak free within a day. I don't think Taller Amadeus was trying to take me for a ride, maybe they just couldn't figure it out and wanted to get me out of their hair, but regardless it was a very long, frustrating, and costly experience.

Oliver, the Austrian owner, is extremely knowledgable and also extremely helpful. We needed new tyres and had several severe additional technical problems with our car. Oliver and his team solved everything. We were more than contented, also with the very reasonable price, and can recommend him and his place without restrictions. We stayed two nights in his workshop that has a security man with a watchdog during the night.
