Description

Large spacious pullout off this dirt road. No issues getting here in our ford e-series van although a little bumpy. Had two bars LTE Verizon and a great view of the lake with amazing sunsets.

Latest Check-Ins

Camped here in a Toyota Rav4. The road in from the north is fairly steep and rutted, lots of potholes. I was fine going slow and steady in 2WD. It is a trek to get up here, but so worth it. Lots of pull outs right off of the road as you come up, some private property with gates off of either side of the mostly 1 lane road, so watch out for those so you are not blocking the way. GPS brought me directly to the site, then continue down a narrow path (wide enough for the car) on the far side of the camp site, to the bluff overlooking the lake. Fire pits both on the bluff and up top. I would only use the bluff for tent/car/small van camping, larger rigs should stay up top. 2-3 bars of Visible cell service. Super quiet at night, some daytime ATV/dirt bike noise and target shooting.

As others have mentioned, there is a sign at the beginning of the road that states that the road is closed 5 miles ahead due to fire damage. The gate at the 5 mile marker is open.

We went down the hill a bit where there’s a fire pit. Please take care of the area! Lots of toilet paper which sucks :-/
Regardless, spot is beautiful and quiet. Stayed here on a Saturday night and didn’t see a soul other than my beautiful girlfriend’s. So grateful for this app.

Beautiful and private overlook of the lake. If you can, be sure to go past the large clearing down to the smaller site where the views are best. The drive up here was rocky and bumpy, but we saw a Prius driving by so the road should still be doable with 2WD. We loved this site so much we stayed an extra night.

Report Check-In

Didn’t make it all the way to the overlook in our bus because the road was quite steep and narrow (I think we would have been just fine, didn’t want to push it). Either way we stopped about a mile out at a large campsite off the side of the road and explored the overlook during the day. Peaceful and quiet, would recommend if you’re planning to spend more than 1 night up here, otherwise it may not be worth the drive.

Report Check-In

Nice dispersed campsite with great views of Clear Lake.

Report Check-In

We came in from the south. Gate was open 5 miles up. 2WD EV with a 2” lift and careful driving and made it with no scrapeage but YMMV. Some trash like others said but very quiet and lots of birds in the morning. Will take some trash with us as we leave.

Nice camping. Someone else here when we showed up so we took the rough looking side road on the left of the "parking lot" up a hill and found a fantastic little spot with views of the lake. Some trash, picked up what we could.

Amazing! Beautiful views of the lake. large cleared areas. Some trash but not too bad.

From the south there is a sign that says the road is closed at a gate 5 miles in. The gate however was open and there were others using the road. I didn't see the same sign when exiting to the north.

The road in from the north seems to be the easier of the two options. both are somewhat rutted but the north seems wider and better graded. Steeper sections coming from the south there I needed 4wd to get up.

the best ioverlander spot we went in a long time! we came up by northside and came back by southside.. south is less rough but a some steeper hill and 2miles less in gravel road.. but if you go go all the way up it's worth it! we passed 5 days and saw no one.. good cell reception and even if there is some sign tgat the road is closed, it's not

Nice view. Good space for overnight. Fire ring, flat, quiet.

Coming from the south the gate is open, great camping spot, had no issue getting here in a 28’ bus but VERY steep to access. 1-3 bars lte

Report Check-In

We didn't camp here, but did make a visit after camping further down the road.
I wanted to add to those looking for a quick and dirty overnight sleeping spot that if you approach this location from the North, you will find numerous pull-outs starting at about two miles up this roughish dirt/gravel road. No need to drive six miles off the highway. Also, I would not drive up here in a large rig of any kind as it gets quite narrow and steep.

Report Check-In

rough road. nothing over 25ft recommend ed. got within 5 miles sign stayed closed due to fire damage
