Description

Free parking by Lafayette Park. It’s a beautiful park at the top of the hill in Pacific Heights. Park bathrooms are open 8a-6p daily and are generally clean. Has a dog park. I’ve met plenty of random people here and had great conversations.

I started parking here last summer when SF did away with all parking restrictions. Also, they have been reintroduced and now Monday-Friday 8a-6p the streets around the park are 2hr parking only (but not paid). I usually get here Friday nights and leave Sunday nights now. I’ve stay here too many times to count, never been bothered by anyone or had anyone try to break into my van.

Pretty quiet at night. Park has huge trash bins that I use for dumping my trash bags. The north side of the park (Washington) has flat parking spots and is the most quiet. East side is also flat, but on Gough which is busy even at night.

Slept in a 22’ sprinter van here on the north part of the park, pretty level. No one bothered us, came in at 10pm and left at 10am. Quiet and park was nice. Restrooms in the middle of the park were clean. The dog play area is only partially fenced, so we didn’t put our untrustworthy dogs in there. But there was lots of grass. Mostly level on the north side of the park.

Stayed 3 nights without any problems. Everyone talks about how bad the car break-ins are, even in this wealthy and safe feeling part of town (apparently even during the day and with people watching is not uncommon). We left our valuables with family just in case. Bathrooms close early in fall - open times 8am to 5.30pm (it was open earlier than 8 one morning). Lots of hummingbirds in the park :)

Stayed here, the park is beautiful and no one bothered us. great spot

We wanted to stay but one car next to us had a side window broken in pieces and gloves compartment wide open. And there was a lot of glass in other parking spots. So even though the area seemed nice and safe, we decided not to stay here…

Stayed here NYE. Aside from some fireworks and cars driving by really quiet overnight. As others have said feels like a safe spot close to downtown

Parked here on a Friday night on the east side of the park, on a bit of a slope. Lovely neighbourhood, felt safe.

Very Nice spot for KISS as well with an huge playground in the square.

as described. restrooms here are also clean. felt very safe here as the neighborhood is good.

Stayed here for 2 nights (2-3 other camper stayed there). Perfect Location right downtown. About 6 nearly leveled spots on top of the hill. If you park on the side of the dog park you have kind of privacy. Bathrooms in the park from 8am - 8 pm very clean. Don’t come after 5 pm to get a leveled spot.
We so people from Quebec starting to cook meals there for breakfast. That’s not appropriate right downtown in front of residential houses. If the people behave like that, this nice spot will blow in a second.

Very nice park if you have kids ! Feels safe not too much traffic, and it’s leveled
Service is spotty but there

Check signs for street sweeping

Slept one night here, arrived late and left early. Felt very safe ! We left early to park the car at the Crissy Field Center for free (37.80675,-122.4414)

Nice Spot for overnight! Pretty quiet at night and with low light

Exceptional site right downtown! Getting on a flat surface on Washington street is the goal and we were fortunate to have one on a Saturday pm. On top of that, a beautiful park and very clean bathrooms. Wonderful!

Great van camping. Only a handful of level spots, but overall a fantastic spot.

Report Check-In

Easily found parking on the park-side of the street around 1800 on a Wednesday. Street sweeping is every first and third Thursday of the month beginning at 0900. Left at 0855 with no issues.

close to citycenter. walked down to Chinatown. had a great time in Asian Museum . colourful people in the park.

A good spot. Stayed one night here. As with any place in SF, check out the street cleaning signs so that you don’t get a ticket. The spot I got on Sacramento wasn’t very level, and there was some noisy bus traffic, but I still slept pretty well. Needed to go a bit more stealth than normal in my car for privacy since I was right next to residential and sidewalk.

Steep drive to reach this place. Just 1 other van. Northside fairly leveled. Great park, especialy for dogs. Nice views. Quiet enough for big citycenter. Stayed 3 nights without any problem. Met nice people in the park.

Good place to overnight. Some noise from traffic, little later in the evening and at night.
If you don't have so many hp's in your vehicle, avoid the very steep roads going up!

Very nice spot for a night. Restroom in the middle of the park. Close at 8pm for spring and summer but at 5:30pm in fall and winter.
Very quiet

Free on-street overnight parking at Lafayette Park! Flat spot on Washington St. although most spots have some slope. Bathrooms in middle of park open 8 to 8. Several other van campers scattered about. Light traffic but in middle of night almost none. Close walk to Whole Foods

What first commentator said all checks out, except bathrooms are open 8-8 spring and summer. The drive up and down to this spot is pretty terrifying if you're, like me, unfamiliar with SF. Got here at 6p and couldn't find a spot - found one an hour later. Other vans came in later. Busy park but felt safe.

Great spot for the day/night. Lots of campers around!

Wouldn’t recommend. Had someone try to steal our bikes off the back of our van.
