Camped here for 3 nights in our van with another campervan. We parked at the far end of the beach where there is an opening in the trees, great for solar!

The police stopped by and checked our vehicle papers and passports. We asked them if it was ok to camp here as a group and they said it was fine.

Due to the recent theft reports we made sure to pack everything into the van at night. We never felt unsafe and we had no issues.

This beach is beautiful, and it’s a great spot for beginner surfers!

We slept 3 nights here, all good. Sky full of stars at night. Beautiful beach. Surf boards for rent but in playa hermosa were cheaper.

Dormimos 3 noches aca, todo bien! El cielo super estrellado por la noche. La playa es hermosa. Hay tablas de surf para alquilar pero en playa hermosa era mas barato.

Attempted robbery.
We stayed at the beach for one night. Got woken up in the middle of the night by some noise outside on our roof. Saw that someone moved an old fridge and a tree stump next to our van to get to our roof box. Us waking up must have scared him away. Nothing is missing.

Great spot to surf (beginner to intermediate) and sleep on the beach.
Lots of space and shades. Arrived there during a weekend and we still found a good spot.
When we were there surf was on at high tide

THIEVES
Beautiful beach but lock up everything and be aware. They will steal your crusty flip flops, water jug, junk chairs, bug spray. Anything they can swipe!

Really the perfect spot indeed ! Feel safe, was quiet , nice people around (who disapeare when it gets dark) and a beautifull sunset and view.

We parked about 30m to the right (north) from the road leading down to the beach. It was a weekend but wasn’t too busy. We fekt safe but we didn’t leave anything outside.

Very nice and free spot directly at the beach! We stayed two tranquil nights here and didn't get bothered at all. During the weekend it can become crowded (lots of surfers) but empties out pretty quickly around afternoon. There is not much shadow unless you use the parking lots under the treetops at the end of the gravel road. Beautiful sunsets and sunrises - it's definitely worth to wake up early and take a stroll!

Just correcting this. It said no big rig. I fit EASILY in my 13m 10kkg (41ft 22,000lb) school bus. Had 4-5 parking places to choose from. Arrive in morning with big rigs otherwise it’s packed with sunset watchers and surfers. This spot is AMAZING! We stayed for days. You can rent boards and there’s a place for pina y mangos to buy. ❤️❤️🫶🏼 loved this spot. BEST place to learn surfing I’ve seen so far.

nice beach, parked in front of the cafe, the guys was very nice, bought a couple of beers, not so much shade tho during the day but loads of breeze, Many people over weekend parked along the street, also coming area look very nice... toilets available but we did not use them!

CAUTION: one of the people who works at the beach expressed concern about our parking overnight at the south end of the beach. Apparently, there is active drug traffic down there. We didn’t see anything off-putting, but thought it wise to pass along this information

We had most of the beach to ourselves, aside from a few perfectly adoptable dogs that sniffed around throughout the day. Bothered only once by a local asking for food. Stay vigilant about belongings, because petty thievery is a problem here according to what one local expat reported to me. Never saw any police where we were parked away from all the open-air shacks at the north end of the parking area. Two sanitation workers spent hours raking the parking area, which was already fairly clean. We claimed a spot at the south end of the beach track where we had immediate access to both the ocean and freshwater flowing down the river from the jungle slopes high above. Plenty of shade. The shore is sand and rock, but there is a section in the middle of the beach, where you can wade into the ocean without stubbing toes on any rock. Very safe for swimming, and the perfect place to learn how to surf. Not surprisingly, there is a surf school advertised on the beach. This location is as paradisiacal as any we have found along the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. People are much more friendly, outgoing and chill here than anywhere we have found further north along this coast. We felt very safe here for our mid-week stay, and would happily return.

Fantastic tranquil place to park for the night right to the beach. Friendly people and cafe around.

We asked the police if we could stay at the beach with our 4x4 with rooftop. They said “no” and gave us an explanation in Spanish we didn’t understand. Probably something with the Covid measures and the beach closure at 14.30. There was A LOT of police so we decided to stay somewhere else along the beach (Playa Esterillos).

Nice place under the trees. Local people . Safe for the night,

We spent the night here and it was super quiet and calm. We event had the visit of the police the morning. But someone stole my pair of shoes while out for surfing...a bit annoying because the place if perfect as a wild camping spot.

Report Check-In

Very nice place to stay. Beach stony and sandy. Quiet, it was weekend so there were several surfers in the afternoon.

Report Check-In

Absolutely stunning spot, picturesque and super quiet.
Be careful when swimming as there many rocks just below the waterline.

Report Check-In

Shady beachfront. Quiet (weekdays) and free. Police protection is minimal, they stopped by once around noon. At night you’re alone. No facilities. Beach is ok.
