Bolivia
We drove over the San Juan bridge & turned around to explore the incredible rock formations (we hoped we could climb) we saw from the road. When we arrived at the small estancia, an older gentleman asked us how many days we were staying. We had no idea how much there was to explore, but clearly he did!
Ask permission to camp, then head up the left side of the grass & park near the large boulder, where its semi-flat. Incredible rock formations to hike among, and over 30 bolted routes if you have sport climbing gear (climbing for all levels) There is also a road that goes up to the top left side rim above the valley that would be good for camping. Enjoy.

Gated. Not able to access this area from any of these sites.
Report Check-InKey is missing and carlos from sucre does not want to provide topos. He said it was closed but we are right here no issues and the villagers are helping us find the key but they can’t locate it
Report Check-InBeautiful place! A great place for climbing. Llamas everywhere and the people are very nice. Ask for permission to camp or stay at the shelter.
Report Check-InMarvellous landscape, quiet place. For climbers enough routes from 5c up 9a. Last house is a Refugio for climbers with beds, kitchen, cold shower. Donate for use!
The boom gate is always closed, so you should walk to the houses and ask for the key. Next door to the Refugio live the mother of the owner, she has a key.
No put your waste here!
This is the most amazing place if you are a climber and an incredible even if you do not climb.
The information provided by semillaviajera.com is straight on, so nothing to add.
Recommend the routes at "Apertura (Centro)".
Report Check-InWhen we arrived here the barrier was closed. We walk to the houses and talk with the owners, the are very friendly. They give us a key to open the lock and said that if other overlander want to stay there they can do the same. If it's lock go to the refugee and if there are nobody, just look for the key under the roof tile that's in the window of the refugee ( the newest building made of stones and concrete). You can stay just in the parking lot for free (it's forbidden to park in the grass) but if you need to use the refugee which has gas kitchen, sink with running water, bathrooms with shower and beds you can colaborate to the manteinence donating some money in the wooden jar for this porpose.
If you are going there to climb you can find the routes information in the little cardboard library near to the door above the table, but remember to return it there after used and take care of it beacuse it is the only copy ( maybe is better if you only take a photo). There are routes for all grades from 4 to 9a !!.
All the water here cames from natural source and there are a lot of llamas and animals, so the water maybe is contaminated. Bring potable water.
nice climbing spot with a lot of routes. you need a permission to get here. this permission is possible to get in sucre...write carlos on www.climbingsucre.com he will also give you the topos. otherwise you can not enter there is a gate... and the people will not be happy if you enter without permission. the rock is great to climb it worth it!!! the place to stay is stunning and very quite and relaxed!!!
Report Check-Inseems to be closed now, locked gate at the entrance and unwelcoming people passing through.
Report Check-InNo one was here when we rocked up. Stayed a few hours and chatted with the neighbours, apparently the owners of the hut disappear for unknown amounts of time. Said it was fine to camp, little stream with natural source water. Neighbours tend to yell at the vicuñas a lot, good entertainment
Report Check-InWe could camp on the other side of the grass in the sand. Amazing place! Of course all trash has to be taken with you when you leave.
Report Check-InThere is a hut with bunkbeds, toilett and fireplace inside. Beautyful. Ask the landlady about the price. In may there is a music festival there. We enjoyed our time there. Still it is better to take the garbage with you, when leaving.
Report Check-InThis is now a place called 'climbing trip El Eden' and the estancia has a small bunkhouse for climbers. They allowed us to camp for free but preferred us not to drive on the grass, so we stayed near to bunkhouse. There is also a drive down towards the bridge where you could camp in the canyon (road has muddy sections) The walks, sand dunes and climbs around the area are spectacular and there are so many llamas(?), sheep and other animals around. They asked us to take all rubbish with us, not to bury toilet paper, and to leave the farm as clean as we found it. We are so glad we stayed. It freezes here overnight, so consider parking where the morning sun will hit you.
