The office to pay your entrance fee is called 'Turismo y Guardabosques' in Santa Maria de Jesus.
We didn't make it to the top, because we (both 60 years old) needed a lot more than three hours, and by the time we reached 'Mirador' the afternoon clouds hid the volcano and the valley.
The hike up to Mirador goes through agricultural terrain with well used trails, but has more loose gravel after Paso Malo (police told us).
Amazingly few foreigners come here (we saw the logbook). There was a problem with robberies (during weekends): police now patrol the whole trail everyday. They'll even give you an escort if you put in a written request beforehand
If you have a 4x4 with low gear, you could drive up to Mirador. Police tell us day time parking is safe, but don't stay overnight.
