Description

Situated right next to the $50 hot springs is a hot stream/river that runs under the main road. The entrance is opposite the resort down a short road blocked by a yellow gate/chain. You can park just up the hill from the yellow gate and walk in. Short easy walk to lovely little hot pools. And best of all free.

Nice hot river, we came here a Sunday and a lot of locals were enjoying the river. If you walk a little bit up you be able to find quiet pools. There is a pullout around 500m after the river in direction of the lake, here it's free to park.

Report Check-In

Unfortunately it’s not free anymore. You have to pay 5000c to park your car.
We didn’t go as it’s way too expensive to access a river

overrated place!!
water is not so hot, very crowded but there is space fo everybody, the scene is not amazing either.
below a road bridge...magical XD
if you want to save some colones you can park the car a little bit farer, 15 mins walk, coming from la Fortuna on the left hand side before the little uphill starts there is an island where there is always some car parked.

Unfortunately 5000 colones to park on the side of the street...
Superb place to visit. The hot water of the stream is really pleasant, the place is magnificent. Even though there are a lot of people, there is enough space for everyone.

Beautiful place. It is free to visit. You only have to pay to park the car

Report Check-In

amazing place!! free!!
we felt safe because there is a guard who takes care you car, we gave him a tip.

Stayed here also one night, really quiet during the night after 22 and noise of the jungle. We went to the hot spring in the morning. didn't pay. we just avoid the park guid.

Report Check-In

We came at 9am on a rainy Saturday and we found a space big enough for our 22’ camper van. Lovely spot. Get here early. We came yesterday afternoon and it was crowded with nowhere to park so we came back today. It’s still an amazing experience in the tropical rain.

Best free thermal springs you will find in middle and south America!!

A lot of pools with beautiful massage from smal waterfalls.

spend more than an hour here.

the guys for parking are not very kind. try now to tell you that you have to pay entrance fee to them. don't accept this.

try to come early in the morning if you have a motorhome. not many space to park.

Nice place! We came around lunch on a weekday and we saw about 10 other people while we swimmed for an hour.

We took our bikes as far down to the river with us as possible.
If you go during the evening, bring candles!

Report Check-In

Stil free, gave the guy watching the cars 1200 colones, he was very polite and stated that it is a public road and free to park, but he would be glad if we gave him some money to watch the car and value his efforts. Will go there again, absolutely relaxing! Also a great feeling you are sitting in the river people are paying 80$ and more next door to sit in tabacoon hot springs ;)

Report Check-In

FREE. Wonderful spot. You'll be approached right away and asked to pay $2,000 colones for parking. I told the guy I could TIP him $1,000 colones for keeping an eye on our van, and he agreed. The springs were so lovely! Go early because they get busier and busier as the day goes on. Recommended!

Report Check-In

Amazing free hot springs! It’s a hot river with little natural baths through the rocks. We gladly gave a tip to the guy watching the cars on the road. Must do if in the area!!

Arrived here midday on a Monday. Was immediately approached by an hombre who requested 2000 colons to park. When we stated it's a public road, and not owned by the hotel, he relunctantly agreed and stated it IS voluntary…”to watch the car, clean the river etc…” he did not give this info clearly until challenged.

We ended up giving him 900 before going down.

Thermals were amazing. Definitely worth a stop!

Park just after the bridge on the side of the road. There is a path on the north-east side of the bridge to the river. It isn't much of a place, but the river is warmed by nearby Arenal volcano.

Locals use this spot. It's comfy for a quick soak.

If you come to La Fortuna there is no need to pay for any overpriced hot springs - these are AMAZING!
We came on a Sunday afternoon and it was impossible to park here and super crowded.
Also we were told it’s not good to park far away out of the vigilante’s area as there are lots of break-ins.
So we came back early on Monday morning - it was the best decision. We could find a good parking space (they are all on the side of the road) and had the place almost to ourselves.
Water gets cooler when it rains so try to come before any storms.
Best if you bring appropriate shoes as there are a lot of slippery stones. Also, keep an eye on your belongings!
One of the nicest spots we’ve found - you’ll be relaxing in the warm water surrounded by lush forest: don’t miss it!

Report Check-In

Nice warm/hot river. The parking lot is only for the resort now, you can park along the street. There is not much space, the first time we wanted to go it was all full (around midday) so we came back the next morning (9 am) and it was better. There is a kind of a volunteer parking attendant, his Name is Miguel, he will watch your vehicle for a tip.

Report Check-In

Nice warm river, several small places to sit and relax. It was almost too hot for me, but a nice stop. People come in the evening with candles, created a nice atmosphere.
No problem with parking along the road.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Beautiful! We left the bikes in the road to the river, the cars don’t reach this point. We left them with locks. All right!

Report Check-In

So good hot bath! A nice natural place even if sides are dirty. We just give 1000 colones to the man who supervise our motorhome. During holidays it's full all days after 17h and weekends. We went a week day between 11h00 and 13h00 and it was calm.

Report Check-In

Fantastic stop! If you have tough feet you don't need any footwear. We wore our flip flops. Beautiful, and warm. Head to the left once under bridge for nice calm hot pools.

Here is where he hot springs are. Come here. Bridge is hard to see but you will see the river

Report Check-In

everything as described. water shoes or tevas would be helpful bc it's rocky climbing down to pools. warm place to hang for an hour.

After tabacon grand spa hotel. You will see cars parked on the side of the road next to a gravel parking lot. You can walk down to the river on either side of the bridge and the river is the hot spring. It's crazy beautiful and hot. So cool. Highly recommend it. It's 100% free but we tipped the guy watching our car. We already left the spring so this location is a little off btw.

Report Check-In

It's right in front of the 5 star hotel Tabascon all other info is accurate

All descriptions are OK. Very very good.

place was epic! we came during the day and besides 2 others, had it to ourselves. totally worth it :)

Amazing place, don't miss it. Went in the afternoon and there were quite a few people there but it wasn't too crowded. Heard it gets really busy in the evenings from other travelers.

Report Check-In

Easy to find the place and full of pleople. Really nice and free. You can park your rig in the main road or in the larking lot on the other side of the road. Free. Take care of your staffs in the car, the locals told us that its common broke windows.

Report Check-In

1000c to park any day. Short walk to hot pools. Take your wet shoes to go down river if you have tender European feet like us. No overnight stay here.

Report Check-In

Nice springs. Busy but probably just because of the holiday. We had to pay 1000 colones to park.

Situated right across from the $50 hot springs (Tabacón) is a hot stream that runs under the main road. The entrance is opposite the resort down a short road blocked by a yellow gate. You can park just up the hill from the yellow gate and walk in. Short easy walk to lovely little hot pools on both sides of the overpass, and best of all, free!

Toby's description doesn't do this place justice. We've been to the pay springs and this one BY FAR is more spectacular. And free!!! You are literally bathing in nature. Gorgeous natural rainforest all around you while relaxing in cascading pools. Once you go down the main path from the highway, pools to the left and right. Apparently people come at night bc candles are everywhere. A must visit!!!
