Such an amazing spot! we were looking for the other location near here but ended up finding our own spot right on the ridge overlooking Mt. Lassen! Great cell service for Verizon and Sprint too! the dirt road here was really nice, maybe not driveable in rain, but our low clearance Honda Civic made it without any issues easily! Caution!! if you bring a big rig up here there are limited places to turn around, I'd recommend a spot closer to the main road instead maybe (not sure though i have never driven a big rig)
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Widow Maker is the only way to describe this spot. I went up to the coordinates as listed. I know this area well Hwy 44. Unbelievable devastated area now. I verified it as in the boundary of the Park Fire after I left. Down tree's & more ready to fall. View or not you are at risk just being there on a breezy day. Don't understand why USFS doesn't block this area. Avoid if you value your life.
Report Check-InStill a good spot for some quiet rest. Good views, but you are surrounded by burnt forest, which is sad. Tons of mosquitoes in early June.
Report Check-InWhat an amazing spot! The view was incredible! Our rig is a 40ft school bus and we had no issues getting in or out. The road is a loop so no need to back out and turn around. Please note this is not an actual pull out spot. It’s kinda a widening of the road. But the road was super quiet. No cars passed in the 3 days we stayed here. This spot is 25 mins to the southwest entrance of Lassen NP and 10 mins to the subway caves and a little gas station store that has all the necessities.
Report Check-InAmazing remote spot with an incredible view. Please note, this is just an enlargement in the road and not an actual pull out. It was so quiet. The entire three days we were here, there was no cars that passed by. The views of the mountains are incredible. We are in a 40 ft school bus and it’s not a problem to get here since the road is a loop back to the highway. There is no highway noise. 25 mins to the southwest entrance of Lassen NP. 10 mins to the subway caves (amazing place).
Report Check-InStayed last night. Felt perfectly safe despite the burned trees. Looking around as you drive in very few trees, if any have fallen down in many months which gave me faith in the stability of the rest. Great Verizon signal.
Access road comes from top of switchback (farther west along main road) not bottom as you might assume as I did since it appears closer to the lower, more eastern part of the road (If that makes sense). Just keep in mind as the surrounding areas don’t have much signal.
BURNED IN DIXIE FIRE..DANGEROUS SPOT FULL OF DEAD FALLING TREES ONTO CAMP SITES AND ROAD CREATING BLOCKADES OVERNIGHT.
Report Check-InWent up a bit further and found a bigger opening. All the trees are burnt to a crisp now but still a beautiful view and two bars of service
Report Check-InReally sweet spot. We had it to ourselves. There are a couple of side roads that also have lovely spots; less view, but more space and beautiful scenery.
Report Check-InForest road widens for enough room to pull off. Stayed one night, no issues. Good AT&T LTE service.
Report Check-InGreat view of Lassen Peak if you walk uphill a little bit. There's probably room for a couple of rigs, it's just on the side of the road but no one else was up this way on a Sunday night. 3-4 bars/1.5Mbps on TMobile.
Report Check-Invery quiet. great view of Lassen., site is a widening in the one lane road. Verizon was good. road in from the north was no problem for Subaru and teardrop
