Description

Really nice camping spot by the lake. Right now sitting at the campsite at night where you can see the red glow from the lava from vulcano masaya. The road down to the spot is not very wide, so not recommended for bigger vehicles. There is a bigger spot further up when you come in from the road. I guess you can camp there as well but it's closer to the houses.

Here's an update. Yes nice spot with good view of lake. Unfortunately the amount of garbage on shoreline is disgusting. A small needle was spotted amongst everything else so be cautious if entering water. We did not stay so continued on through village where there are a few more open areas one could park for the evening with the lake in view. Note: there is a trail that takes you all around the lake with some navigating from maps me. 4L will do the job. Would not attempt in a big rig. Took just over an hour with some nice views along the way and fun terrain to test your skills. Would not do if raining. Enjoy.

Free camp spot right on the lake. We did see the red glow of the volcano last night, which was pretty amazing. There is a bit of trash around and would not recommend swimming in the lake at this time. Very quiet.

Nice spot but the beach was loaded with trash and there where a lot of young men hanging around the forest. It all looked a little sketchy, so we didn't stay for the night.

in this little town of Venecia you can ask for Nixon. he is a certified guide and can take you on the lake with his Lancha or to the volcanoes. it's also possible to sleep in his house and enjoy a very good spinach-tomato salad freshly made by his wife. nice real rural experience.

What a magnificent spot to stay overnight. Some locals did their laundry or took a shower during day. At night we had the spot all by ourselves. The view of red smoking Masaya volcano was just out of this world. at the same time lightning was moving in. So super unreal. Amazing spot for one or two nights. A really basic toilet is close by. FREE.

Road down to Laguna is poorly marked and advisable only in a 4x4, especially if it's rained. Spent the evening watching the smouldering volcano from our campsite (for free!) no one bothered us, there are some homes nearby the lake but didn't see anyone to ask if it was safe.
