Our GPS took us this way from Monteverde to Lago Arenal. Bad idea. Stucked here with 4WD SUV. The road is in fatal shape, mudslides. Ends in the middle of nowhere. Continues only as a horse trail, despite our navigation urging us happily to go on.

Haha I almost got stuck here too! What an adventure! Glad a had my fully kitted out 4Runner with diff lock and good clearance... or I might not have made it out. A massive stretch hasn't been used in forever and mudslides have taken their toll. It's not a road- it's a horse trail. If you try this it may well be a one-way trip for you! I wanted to push it a bit and was well prepared and glad I was. As soon as it started raining I knew I was in trouble so I got out of there asap. If you want to try it- enjoy, but it's not an actual functioning road to Arenal. Cheers, Jamie
