Description

We stayed here 3 nights and went out of our way to get here. The landscape is Savannah and different to that around Moshi and Arusha. It is in Maasai Tribal lands, peaceful site under an active volcano. Friendly and helpful staff. Fire pit. $10 pppn camping under acacia trees on grass. European toilets, can buy a little water here. 140km of bad dirt road to get here, it took us over 6 hours. Great scenery and awesome locals. If you can ride motorcycle off-road then you will enjoy this. Gravel roads, sand patches and patches of rock. There are trucks and buses driving the roads so fine for 4x4. Wild animals next to the roads. Lake Natron has flamingoes. Come to spend a few days. You need to brig water, cash and enough fuel to get out again. Wifi avalaible at $2.50 per hour. No cell reception. There are three gates to pass on route at costs of $10pp, $10pp and $15pp with a vehicle fee for cars. To visit the lake costs $20pp with your own vehicle for the guide. They can provide food for $28 for full board or you can cook yourself. Three dogs on site and a kitten. The costs add up, but it is a great spot away from the tourist hoards and you can really relax here. Owner is Belgium and was not here during our visit.

A well run grassy campsite with clean ablutions with hot water. A very welcome swimming pool because it was extremely hot when we were here. 10USD pppn camping plus 35.4 USD pppn WMA fees plus gate fee of 35 USD PP and vehicle fee of 20USD plus local guide fee of 20 USD pp. Plus VAT on some of this! It's pricey but we enjoyed seeing the barrrn and arid landscape of Lake Natron and the flamingos and the waterfalls hike and swim. We didn't climb the mountain of god this time!! @a.truck.called.wanda

Report Check-In

Large open grass space for RTT. Only problem is that besude paying camping fee if $10 another $39.5 pppn is required by TAWA fees. Ludicrous 😭.

Report Check-In

Great green place, with swimming pool!
20 USD per person!
Facilities clean and working, the camping kitchen not so clean. Breakfast we didn’t have but chips cost 3 USD and soda 2! The three rooster need to go to the pot, from 5 in the morning no sleeping anymore!

Report Check-In

Good campsite on grass with some shady thorntrees, very nice view of Ol Doiyo Lengai.

Good ablutions with hot showers and western toilets.

Have a bar and restaurant but pricey. Paid 10USD for packed breakfast that was very poor.

Paid USD10 pppn for camping.

Note Park/Tool fees:

Decent place to stay while exploring the area. Easy to get here in one day from Arusha or Lobo (Serengeti).

Lovely campsite with a friendly team ($10 pp). we has a great dinner ($15 pp. but worth it). ablutions are clean :)
we had a great guide (Denis) to the waterfall and to the lake.
it's a shame the park fees are so high as we would have stayed longer!!!
we highly recommend coming to Lake Natron (absolutely amazing landscapes and nature), and staying in Maasai Giraffe!!!

Very nice campsite, as already reported.
update on the wildlife Management area permit. it costs USD 35 pppn if you camp, and USD 29 pppn if you stay in a room. you can get it here or at wild view campsite up the road.
We visited the waterfall and lake with a guide called Lukas and it was absolutely worth it, the guide was a super nice Maasai who spoke Greta English and responded to all our doubts and curiosities.
Visiting lake Natron is expensive (330usd for 2people 2 nights) but for us it worked, as we are also now taking the dirt road from here to Namanga border to cross to Kenya

Camping is 10USD pppn and is on grass underneath acacia trees.
Hot water showers and clean ablutions.
Free filtered water in the restaurant and delicious meals/drinks can be bought.
Area to prepare/eat meals and wash up.
Ingrid, the owner, has made a real effort to integrate with the local people and one example is the local Maasai grazing their cattle on the campsite.
A staff member can be provided to guide you to the east side of Lake Natron where very few people go - we had the best walking safari of our 4 months so far in Africa. Wildebeest, giraffe, zebra, ostrich, vulture and lots of flamingos and other birds.
One thing to be aware of is that the area is a national park so you need to get a NP permit in Arusha before you travel to the area. We didn't and this created problems for us and the staff at Maasai Giraffe although they were fantastic at help us sort things out with the local park official.
Overall I this is a fantastic place to visit which is a bit off the beaten track, and we're very glad we took this route into the Serengeti.
