Peru
Bus tickets to Machu Picchu. Better to buy the day before and passports are needed. If wanting to get one of the first buses in the morning the line starts at 2AM! First bus doesn't leave until 5:30. We got there at 4 and had 500 people in front of us and got on a bus at 6 AM.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
The prices are the same, 24 USD return, or 12 USD one way.
You can buy the ticket for the way back at Machu Picchu.
Prices are the same. We decided to buy the bus tickets the night before: there was no line, no hassle, easy peasy. We got in line for the bus the next morning at 5:00am and there were about 15 people ahead of us already. The buses ran often and without any complications, they definitely have systems in place to make this an easy experience.
Report Check-InNo line at all at 11:15am, able to buy tickets for the same day with no wait. Prices still the same
Report Check-InBeginnin of the low season now. Yesterday ten minutes to buy the tickets, 10 minutes queue to board the bus. This at 8am. Awesome!
Report Check-InIt is also possible to take the to the entrance to Machu Picchu only. In this case it was 12 usd. 2 ways was 24 USD.
Report Check-InTake the bus!!! The trail is steep, tiring and partway along the dusty, exhaust-fume road. Save the energy for Machu Pichu and the hot springs. There are plenty of buses running constantly to get everyone up and down quickly.
Report Check-InBus goes about every 20 mins, last one 17.30. We had the afternoon ticket and no didn't have to wait at all. It's also possible to walk up and buy your busticket down at the MP site.
Regarding trains: the schedule stated there would be two trains leaving to hidroelectrica after midday, at 15.40 and 18.00, but we asked and they said the last train would be at 13.30. We had walked from hidroelectrica and were planning to take the train back but this would be impossible for us, big dissappointment haha. The reason the train was not going acc to schedule was that there wouldn't be enough people, even though I expected beginning of June to be high season. Not sure how to check in advance. walking there and back the same day is doable, if you take the bus up and down MP, but you are close to 30 km (mostly flat terrain though). In hindsight we would've preferred to take train from Hidroelectrica to Aguas Calientes, take bus up, and walk all the way down and back.
Report Check-InWe got there on a weekday around 5:30 am and where on the bus about 30 - 40 minutes later.
