Something not right?

Description

Brand new mirador and picnic area high on the mountain. Picnic tables, seats, rubbish bins and views forever. The road coming south is high quality stabilised surface road complete with regular highway signage and guardrails that except for short sections of water damage, generally allows highway speeds.

Very nice place to have a short rest, the view over the sea cloud is fantastic.
We stay at night, that was an error, all night long we were hardly check by the wind.

Report Check-In

yes, good place for a night but Not for any Kind of tents as the Wind will Blow hard at night. the rubbish bin's are gone but waste is Out of sight. four other short term visitors from afternoon to next morning. very quite.

Amazing view indeed! Wind was okay during the early evening and right after sunset, but unfortunately, it kept getting stronger and stronger. Around 4:30, we even decided to leave as the wind was still picking up and our car and rooftop tent was shaking quite badly. Btw, windy.com was predicting completely different weather. So according to us, maybe not the best spot for people with a rooftop tent...

amazing place for sleep 1 night, wake up make a breakfast and watch the amazing clouds from top perspectives, if you came from north this is the way to the south by route 1

very great mirador. Amazing view. very clean. no wind. great paved road.

Absolutely amazing place, watching the sun setting on top of the clouds and the the sky full of stars was breathtaking. Not to mention the silence... utter silence. The B70 is now fully paved and in great condition. Wind is pretty heavy but there is an access directly east of the mirador which allows you to tuck in and have some decent protection from the wind (best to have 4x4 if you want to tuck in and not be on the top of the mirador). The wind calmed down and was completely wind still about 2 hours after sunset and started to pick up again about 1 hour after sunrise.

One of the best places we've slept at in South America so far. The location above the clouds is unique, feels like being on top of the roof of the world. We were lucky - it was windy when we arrived around 7 pm, got less and less until it died down completely sometime between 9 pm and 10 pm.

It seems like this road might sometime soon be the easiest way to get from Antofagasta to Caldera (and vice-versa), connecting Ruta 5 and Ruta 1, but we didn't try to go further than the mirador. Right now it's a sleepy spot with few cars going by - well worth the detour. Also, don't forget to visit the "Mano del Desierto" monument which is close by on Ruta 5.

Just read through all other recommendations. All true. Stunning place!!!!!!!!!! Do not forget to bring a bottle of champagne😁. And the wind...take it for granted. In our situation it calmed down after sunset, started again before sunrise. Temperatures however stayed reasonably high (compared to -10 high in the Anders!)

The wind died down after the sun went down. We had a quiet night. Both the sunset and sunrise were fabulous!

Beautiful place to stay a night. Wonderful sunset and very good stars. But the wind, coming from the east, was very strong here, started in the evening and kept on going until late morning.

This place is in wrong location - it is located at -24.24465, -70.41903

Another top ten spot to spend a day and night. We had clear weather with some wind but not too bad. Amazing view down on the cloud-covered coast. In 24 hours 10 cars passed by and 3 stopped to have a look. The state of the mirador is unique, it’s all new, clean, design benches and tables, trash bins, wow. In case the wind would pick up at night (coming from the west) I found a small level spot beneath the mirador on the east side where we could have diverted to.

A really great view, wonderfull sunset, but much wind to stay at night.

Fantastic place to view the sunset and to spend the night. But like already mentioned, it can get quite windy depending on the weather.

We arrived mid afternoon on a Saturday. Later that night lots of people showed up to star gaze. Around midnight the wind picked up to about 100kph and was kept up all night! This is the windiest place. And we know wind! We drove the salar de uyuni and lagunas route and we are from the windiest place in the USA! 💨 the views really are incredible though.

Stunning supper view. Angle camper according to wind direction. Then wind no longer a menace! Looong bicycle climb up from the coast. Overall a good wild camp spot.

Wow what a place to spend the night!
Parking above the clouds which cloak the Pacific and the dry desert on the other side. Wonderful sunset/sunrise and no wind after it went dark; with 16°C surprisingly warm during the night.
For sure something extraordinarily.

It is a place with amazing views on the Pacific coastline or even better from the top onto the clouds over the Pacific. When we were here overnight it was really stormy (also in the morning).

Report Check-In

I don't know if I got unbelievably lucky, or if it's always like this, but the ride from here to the coast, down through the creamcake clouds, was the most beautiful thing I think I've ever seen. Incredible.

Road is generally well paved, with a bit of sand or gravel on top. A limo with bald tires should be able to handle it. Also seems to be a lower road with Roger surface. Could camp a whole army out here. Passed three cars in thirty miles.

Report Check-In

stunning and the road is in great condition. We're the only ones on it. a real treat after passing the mining traffic around antofagasta

Report Check-In

awesome mirador with new tables, benches etc

Report Check-In

Indeed a stunning view! Looks like you'd be able to car camp here although it is very windy.
