iOverlander cannot verify if wild camping is permitted at this location. It is your responsibility to verify local laws or obtain consent before staying the night.
Only a few designated “lots” where camping is allowed. No more dispersed camping throughout this area.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
No longer dispersed camping. $5,000 and/or six months in jail.

eight designated areas, basically parking lots. No fires. Heavily packed in. 10pm quiet time curfew which many people respected. But you are going to be within 5 feet of at least one other person camping.
This was caused due to the area being disturbed and dirty camp sites. Clean up after yourself.
Report Check-InPlace is closed. This is exactly what happens when people abuse the outdoors and can’t act like decent human beings. Whole place has been trashed and destroyed from off roading so they decided to shut it all down
Report Check-InDispersed camping is all blocked off, several “lots” open where you can camp right next to others. Not so nice anymore. See pic of map showing the allowed camping spots
Report Check-InAs others have said, there is only a few parking areas open now. We went to the second one called Windmill and snuck between an rv and a van. Long way on a crappy road for a small parking spot!
Report Check-InThere are now a couple of designated camping areas which were pretty full each evening. Show up early to ensure you get a spot.
Report Check-InMost of the dispersed camping is closed to reclaim the land. There are now only a couple of group camping areas available. We made some cool friends and created a nice community while here.
Report Check-Inthe only camp now for rvs is the crappy little crowded spot called 'surprise ' when you first drive in. should be called 'surprise, dont bother driving further, we closed all the spots with big rocks'. Sedona really HATES campers big time. So dissapointing. All the old spots have boulders blocking or no camping signs. dont waste your time with fr525 anymore.
Report Check-InA lot of spots was definitely closed (big rocks).
They are just Two big spots available.
Great spot to stay while visiting Sedona. VERY busy. We had to drive 3 miles down 525 to find a somewhat private spot. There are lots of pull offs but even at 3pm on a Tuesday there were rigs in almost every spot. Road was in great condition. A couple spots of rocks and washboard but nothing bad even as we went further in
Report Check-InLots of pull off and sites off forrest road 525 bear Sedona. Large sites to accommodate multiple occupants and smaller sites too. Unpaved access road, gravel but not rutted just a little bumpy when in tow. Free!
Report Check-InParked right beside the main drag, constant car, jeep, truck and sxs traffic all day. quiet at night. Not our best find and I'm sure we won't be back, unless we find a quieter branch off 525. Verizon sucks, even with a booster, at least in this spot. Nice scenery though, and close to Sedona and Cottonwood.
Report Check-InExtremely crowded for several miles down this road. All spots have 5-7 vehicles sharing the space. Traffic on the dirt road continued late into the night. It's convenient for accessing many of Sedona's trails, but you will have a lot of neighbors. 3-4 bars on TMobile.
Report Check-InGreat spot a few miles in from the pavement. Easy to get to just take your time. Good cell service
Report Check-InNice spots for dispersed camping. We were able to find a dispersed spot.
Report Check-InPretty nice campsites off the Highway. Can get windy though, and not a good place if it rains. Has some really nice views of the valley and cliff sides. Pretty quiet for a Memorial Day. Great reception for T-mobile.
Report Check-InVery nice, 2+ bars of tmobile, several large rig areas and packed gravel road.
Report Check-InStayed here for six nights at different sites every day. Such a beautiful area!
Report Check-InVery busy, but pretty good overall. Road is a little bumpy but not unmanageable. There was a fire pit that we used just behind our spot, kind of a little cul-de-sac. About 20 minutes from both Sedona and cottonwood. Very dusty. Rating this an 8/10.
Report Check-InAs described - plenty of spots down this road. A bit of cell service (verizon). Overall great spot!
Report Check-InI must admit I dislike this spot.
Personal preference- but this is way too busy. Got here last night at 5pm or so and took one of the last spots a few miles down the road. This place is like a highway of RVs , vans and off-road vehicles. No real solitude to be had.
A wonderful area to hang with others and bring a dirt bike or atv!
Second night we tried to find a new spot and nothing was available besides for Parking lots with a corner here or there. Ended up choosing a shoulder in the road at the main highway rather than bother others
Still- beautiful sights to be had - get here early and you will have luck I would bet!
Report Check-InRight off the highway. Easy to get to and park. Large dirt spot. Medium traffic, but not too noisy. About a 15 minute drive north to Sedona.
Report Check-InReally enjoyed this spot! We could see Jerome from our camp spot. Plenty of room for single or group camping where we parked. A little windy but such nice weather. If you look in the grass you can even find little stick bugs! Super cool!
Report Check-InEasy access and very quiet. The full moon and hot air balloons were hugs pluses. Busy until about 10pm with people looking for dots.
Report Check-InBLM with plenty of places to pull off right off the HWY. 14 days maximum. Easy access for any vehicle. Lovely campervans.
Report Check-InStayed there 3 nights, great views and met fun people. Close to the city and great trails. Hot air balloons in the morning is really magical! It gets pretty muddy after rain I would avoid if weather gets bad
Report Check-InPull of on the dirt road. Excellent. Few friendly atv’s . And trucks. Quiet , great fire pits and someone left some woodZ. :). Thanks
Report Check-InBLM land just outside of Sedona. The farther you go down on 525 you get much better views. Overall the gravel road is good.
The first night we went 4 miles in and had epic views. We are in a 2005 158wb Sprinter. The road was good until the last .4 of a mile. But if you go slow almost anyone can drive a ways in.
The Next three nights we stays in a large group site about .5 miles in. Wake up to hot air balloons each morning.
Report Check-InLot of places along the street! We camped on a big place around 1km away from the highway on the left side with a lot of other campers. No shade.
Report Check-InQuiet free campsites along road 525. Good cellular reception.
Report Check-InPerfect place to visit Sedona. Lot of rv’s and cars/tents. Pit toilet on parkingsite (former place to stay) orher site of the way
Report Check-InFire pit and decently level ground. Not a lot of shade. Quiet on a weekday after Memorial Day.
Report Check-InMany sites along this gravel road. Not good for rainy weather, all the sites become mud traps. Will be great in dry weather though.
