Latest Check-Ins

As described, 1bar Verizon none on T-Mobile. Very peaceful and quiet. The campground was full on our weekend but we made it work

Report Check-In

Stopped there for the afternoon decided against staying there because of all the mosquitoes. Small peaceful campground. Only 3 people were there. No t mobile cell service.

Great small campground with tables, fire pit and 9ne pit toilet. Clean and well maintained. Free. Nice trees and birds. Great stopover for us.

Nice, quiet. I stopped in to make coffee. Two sites open in April. A family with kids is here. Not sketchy

Report Check-In

Established but unattended campground in a national forest, free and first come, first serve. We arrived about 9:30 on a Monday in late January and got the last spot. I think there are about 8 in total. Didn't use the pit toilets but they are there. Other occupants looked to be a mix of short term campers and longer term folks, but it was quiet and we felt safe. Easy to get to off the main road, less than an hour to Charleston the next day. Definitely a good find.

Report Check-In

Nice campground. Well maintained travel loops with several campsites. A large fire tower in the middle. Stayed a few hours and left due to the amount of mosquitos. Bring strong bug spray if you decide to stay here. There were 3 different camp sites taken by people who seemed to be living there.

Report Check-In

Nice place to camp for a few days. It seems like people live here, but that can be expected at the only forest service in the area.

I saw the sheriff driving around checking on the place which was nice.

It smells of sewage because of the pit toilets.

Report Check-In

we parked here a week ago to tandem bike ride a 30mi loop on the extremely low car volume gravel, dirt & sand roads around here, heading back south stayed the night last night, very quiet and restful.

Report Check-In

Free camping in the national forest less than an hours drive to Charleston. Rare in an area with generally expensive state and municipal campgrounds and two night minimums. Pleasant wooded sights. Close to the road, some noise overnight. Picnic tables, camp rings and a deplorable pit toilet to be avoided at all cost.

Report Check-In

Nice slightly developed site. Approximately (arguably) 11 sites. Decent toilet (but bring TP).

Report Check-In

Great spot. All sizes of RVs. Potable water is 8 miles south. Turn right on highway 17, go 1/3 mile on left, just before fire station. 14 day stay. Toilet house/checked weekly. Nice hiking. I was here 5 years ago. Decent cell service/most carriers. I’ll be back. I pulled a 25 foot travel trailer. All sizes fit. A bus stayed 4 days.

Report Check-In

This place appears to be a year round camping spot. Showed up on a Saturday in December and grabbed the last site (#2). We heard a lot of loud gun shots during the day and assume it is hunting season. If that bothers you I suggest staying elsewhere. We stayed for two nights and didn’t have any issues. No cell service on ATT. Free.

Report Check-In

Stayed here for 3 nights. Got out 38ft 5th wheel in here no problem. There are 8 spots and they were all taken so we stayed in the center by the fire tower. Pretty level there.

Still free. As described. Buck Hall is only 30 minutes away with hot showers for $7

Report Check-In

Very easy to find! We stayed in our van just for one night. It was very quiet and still over half of the sites were empty. Nice picnic tables and areas to have a fire.

Report Check-In

Decent place, clean. good bit of space to spread out some. Lots of people camping, but none were disruptive.

Beautiful free campground: search by address on GPS because not well annonced on upcoming road. There were 5 or 6 campers when we arrived; some had tables.

Actually called Honey Hill recreation area. Decently nice simple free campground. We decided to leave after a few hours though because too many people were running generators.

Awesome free campsite at Honey Hill Recreation site within Francis Marion National Forest. Great size campsites and easy to get to. Came on a Saturday and there was still four sites available. Might be busier during hunting season.
