No camping sign very near this spot now.
original description:
Camp under big tree close to the sign that says "Lago General Carrera" at the edge of the lake. Most people camp in the park when in Puerto Sanchez, but we found this site to offer more privacy and better views. The lady at the tourist information center said it was okay. Free. No facilities at site (bathroom in tourist info center, 300 meters away). Tree offers good wind and rain protection. Can arrange boat trips to marble caves (which are very close - you can see them across the water) for approx 25,000 pesos. Next to dirt road, but zero traffic.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
There's a sign that says no camping but it was installed by the tour guy after some Chilianos tent camping made a fire, left and then the fire restarted with the wind. He says it's OK to sleep in your car/van but no fires and I wouldn't assume you can tent here.
Report Check-InAs we were packing up our tents this morning 3 guys came down and put up a "no camping" sign. Could probably just go a bit further down though.
Beautiful spot.
Report Check-Inwe slept here. quiet. Gentile villagers. I did tour caves, the long one, arrived up to puerto tranquillo. paid 20,000 per person, duration 2 hours and 30. Lake a little rough, exciting crossing.
Report Check-InWe arrived around 6pm, and jumped on a boat tour that evening because it was still sunny. Camped right in front of the boat dock where we were already parked, just a tiny bit east of this location. Lovely night, and tourist office has no issues letting you use bathroom...just bring paper cause they don't always have it.
Report Check-InThere is plenty of space at the lakeside and the view is wonderful.
