Latest Check-Ins

Very cold night! We had to pull out our sleeping bags. Loved our hiked to the peak though. Would recommend to sleep in high altitude before arriving here as I experienced a bit of altitude sickness during the night (headache) and we had been in 2000 meter elevation for the last couple of days. So I couldn't imagine coming from the ocean. High clearance recommended for the drive up, but no need for 4x4. 2 hours to drive up, we were also taking it slow. We did glaze our heavy duty semi metalic brakes of the way down and that was with being on first gear and trying as much as possible not to brake. Our van is very heavy though.

Made it here in our VW kombi, you do not need 4x4 for the road, but high clearance is recommend. The road is very lumpy/washed out in places and a couple of dusty patches early on which need some speed with 2wd. Camping does not appear to be included anymore, we paid 150pesos for 2 nights. Hiked up to the peak was worth it. Recommend getting here the night before to adjust to the altitude.

Camped for 3 nights on a little pull out off the road with tree cover. It got very cold at night! Had to turn on the heater and pull out the thick blanket but it was a nice treat after the hot humid coast! Hiked Nevado de Colima on our second morning after the previous days rain. Wow, beautiful and hard hike! Worth waiting out the rain. We hiked route 2 , was 8.5 km in and out with approx 1000m elevation gain. We left on a Saturday, lots of people showed up Friday Saturday, we were alone during the week. Don’t miss out!!!

Good level spot on the side of the road, not too far from the anthenas on top... Road to the park is 18km long and in quite good condition. Entrance fee is now $34/pp and you can stay however long you want. Take a picture of the map at the gate. There are several designated camping areas, gazebos, viewpoints and picnic tables in the park. Closer to the anthenas road gets rutted and requires 4wd. The shortest hiking trail to the top starts at Volcan de Fuego viewpoint. It is easy hike to a mountain pass just under the summit, from here the trail gets more difficult and requires some serious rock scrambling. Be careful you can really feel the elevation with every step. According to the map at the gate it is 1.28km from the viewpoint to the summit, however you might hike more, the trail is later harder to follow as there are more than one route.. Weather changes quickly, come prepared.

We loved this spot, great repreive from the hot temperatures below as we are at 12,000 ft in elevation. We did suffer from some altitude sickness, but still a great spot to hang out in the peace and quiet up in the mountains.
