SUPER easy and fast border. From Botswana to Namibia. Just stamps in the passports, really. And writing your car details in a book (ok, we do have a Nam registered car, but anyway). Both sides together took maybe 20 minutes. Border is open Mon-Sun 6.00-18.00.

Motorbikes allowed through. Saw zebras and some impalas. Nice way to cross the border into Botswana.

Report Check-In

Easy quick exit from Botswana and entry into Namibia, but now stuck waiting to get a lift as cycling is not allowed through the park. There is hardly any traffic coming through here so patience and time is needed…police man very strictly saying we are not allowed to cycle..it is 15km stretch of dirt through the park.

Crossed from Nam-Bots. Hardly 20 minutes, showed our vaccination card and it was fine. Payed only the road taxas of 321 pulas. accepted Credit card. They looked in our fridge but we didn't have any Meat .

Report Check-In

Very friendly staff. Takes about 30
Minutes. Card machine was broken and you can’t pay with Namibian dollars… but they let us go to an ATM near by.
Currently you need a PCR test and they do a free rapid test at the border. No need for a vaccination certificate (for now).

easy border crossing both sides.
entering botswana we asked for 3months visa, wich was no problem. we asked the same for TIP and they gave us 3 months road permit and insurance.
we paid 256pula. it was no problem paying with creditcard.

This border is no longer accepting foreign currency (see photo) but has POS / Credit Card machines on site. Super easy crossing

Botswana to Namibia. as said before easy fast border. we were able to pay the namibian road tax by card even though he acted like it will be a problem after I said we don't have any cash, but then it suddenly worked anyway.

Botswana > Namibia.

Easy and fast border crossing.

Foreign registered cars need to pay cross-border charges (CDC). As of 1 May 2019, those charges are:
* 196 N$ for a motorbike or trailer
* 308 N$ for a car < 3.5 T
* 727 N$ for a two axles vehicle > 3.5T

CDC needs to be payed in Namibian dollars (report have said that they also accept Botswanan Pula and South African Rand), but they do not accept USD or other currencies. They do have a card machine but it seldom works. There’s no money changers or ATM.

We didn’t have any of the accepted currencies which resulted in them letting us go on our way, with a hand written note to show at any police checks. We were supposed to (and did) pay our CDC in Rundu which has a border post to Angola where we could do it.

In Namibia you drive with your lights on at all time and the third party traffic insurance is baked into the price of fuel so you do not need to purchase any insurance.

Simple, fast, efficient border. 20 minutes both ways and we were on our way! Can pay all fees with cards.

Report Check-In

Visa credit card didn't work to pay the fees ($300pula for USA registered moto), I'm pretty sure they wanted $USD as she kept asking me what I wanted to do since the machine wasn't working. I was also getting the 2013 exchange rate posted on the wall. Like magic, the card machine started to work once other people showed up, we paid our fees (um...expensive!) and went to the check point 50m away where they took all fruits and veggies. Nice.

Report Check-In

Really relaxed border and no problem to pay the road tax and fee for foreign vehicles with Visa card.

Report Check-In

We had no problems at the border. No really control. Just asked.
The price we payed were
50 Pula per Person and 165 Pula for the car (Road tax)
You can pay by card when they have Connection. We payed with card and it worked.

Crossing the border from Botswana to Namibia.
Leaving Botswana done in a few seconds. Very friendly ladys there.
For entering Namibia you have to fill a form and then you get your passport stamped. Also very friendly and done in a few minutes.
After that you have to pay the road tax. For us (Toyota Hilux) it was 277 N$. They would also accept ZAR and Pula (1:1). We had not enough money (last time we had to pay just 150 N$ and we were expecting the same amount again so we had just 200 ZAR and a few coins) and asked, if they would also take credit card because we saw the machine. But the machine would not work. After collecting all money we had (it still wasn't enough) the officer took the cable out of the telephone and did it in the card machine and the machine worked. So you can pay with credit card if you don't have enough money. But maybe it will be a big discussion. Keep the receip well till you leave Namibia, they want to see it on the border where you leave.

Be aware that Botswana does not accept Namibian dollars. They do have a card machine, but the official said it usually doesn't work.

They do accept rands, USD, pounds and euros. If you came unprepared like us, you can walk back to the Namibian building and exchange Namibian dollars to rands.

warning cyclists : we are not allowed to cycle from Botswana to Namibia through the national Park. We have been stucked for 3 hours, waiting for a lift. But with 2 kids, a tandem, a trailer for the little one... anyway, after arguing during ages, the police accepted to escort us for the 12km. So be warned and come early !

Entering Botswana. Effortless. Fill in form, get stamp, cycle off.

Report Check-In

Very easy border and nice staff both sides. No search or questions about food. Just as described, except Botswana would not take Namibian dollars for road tax. They would take Rand. They charged 200 Rand and gave us 2 pula change.
